Yearly Review: WWF December 1991
A popular WWF tag team splits up. A championship changes hands. A wrestler returns and another makes his debut this month in the WWF!
WWF World Championship Scene: (currently held by: The Undertaker)
Undertaker’s reign as champion lasted all of a week as Hulk Hogan regained the championship on December 3rd at Tuesday in Texas. Paul Bearer accidentally hit Taker with his urn and Hogan tossed the ashes into Taker’s face before getting the pin. This was the first televised loss for the Undertaker, as well.
WWF Intercontinental Championship Scene: (currently held by: Bret Hart)
Bret defended the championship against Skinner at Tuesday in Texas and retained the championship after the Sharpshooter.
It would be announced later in the month that Bret would defend the championship against the Mountie at the Royal Rumble in January. However, that wouldn’t happen.
WWF World Tag Team Championship Scene: (currently held by: Legion of Doom)
It was announced that the Legion of Doom would defend the championships against the Natural Disasters at the Royal Rumble. The only memorable thing they did in the month was defend the titles against the Rockers on Superstars which they won and then saw Michaels slap Jannetty a couple of times as that teamed looked to be splitting up.
– The issues between Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty continued to heat up during the December 2nd taping of Wrestling Challenge. Michaels lost a match to Ric Flair during the taping and flipped out on Jannetty. Michaels demanded that Jannetty hit him, but Marty refused. The following night, they appeared to put their differences aside until Michaels superkicked Jannetty and tossed him through the Barber Shop window. This was filmed the same night that Tuesday in Texas took place. This is the official split of the Rockers.
– Randy Savage was able to pin Jake Roberts at Tuesday in Texas, but after the match Roberts hit a couple of DDTs and slapped Elizabeth.
– Vignettes promoting the debut of Chris Chavis started to air on December 29th.
– Rick Martel made his in-ring return after several months off at the December 4th taping of WWF Superstars.
