WCW Worldwide 1/21/1996

World Championship Wrestling presents Worldwide
Date:
1/21/1996
From: Orlando, FL

Matches:
1.) Hugh Morrus defeated An unknown jobber
2.) Arn Anderson defeated Bart Sawyer
3.) Brian Pillman & Chris Benoit defeated The Armstrong Brothers
4.) The Super Assassins defeated the American Males

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Mean Gene interviewed Lex Luger and Sting. They will be wrestling the Blue Bloods at the Clash. Luger is back in WCW because it’s where the big boys play and is back with his good friend Sting. There is no story between the two of them. Sting talks about WCW being unbelievable. Jeesh, they are putting over their friendship quite a bit. They virtually did nothing to promote their match with the Blue Bloods.

2.) The Assassins are jacked up masked wrestlers being managed by Col. Robert Parker. Riggs hits a hurricanrana after Bagwell hit a dropkick to the back of Assassin #1. The Males work over the arm of #1. A double jumping shoulder block by the Males gets a near fall. Riggs is the guy to be the face in peril. The heels hit a vertical suplex/top rope spear combo on Riggs for a near fall. For the most part, this has been really boring. They botch the hot tag behind the referee’s back spot as Bagwell tried to enter too soon. Riggs avoids a splash and gets #2 to crotch himself on the top rope. Marcus gets the hot tag and cleans house. Bagwell avoids a top rope head butt and hits a big splash for a near fall. A double dropkick by the Males sends #1 to the floor. Bagwell gets his eye raked behind the referee’s back and that’s good enough for the win. (DUD. Considering the Assassins would not be seen again, it makes this victory even more shocking.)

3.) Mean Gene interviews the Blue Bloods. Regal says the world is made up of two different people. They are the type of people who ask who will stop them from doing what they want. They are going to attain what they want. Eaton despises Sting and Luger. Gene is cracking up during this promo. Regal tells us that they are better than Luger and Sting.

Final Thoughts:
Well, this was just bad. The feature match was horrible booking and the teams didn’t work well together at all. The only good thing was seeing Morrus hit a top rope moonsault. I always thought he hit a good one.
