World Championship Wrestling presents Main Event
1.) Sting defeated Chuck Coates
2.) WCW United States Champion Rick Rude defeated PN News
3.) Ricky Steamboat defeated Larry Zbyszko
4.) Barry Windham & WCW US Tag Team Champion Ron Simmons defeated WCW Tag Team Champions Arn Anderson & Bobby Eaton
1.) Jim Ross interviewed Brian Pillman regarding his upcoming match against Jushin Liger at WCW Superbrawl II. Pillman knows it’s going to be a tremendous match when they square off. Pillman looks forward to the challenge. Pillman compares using video to scout in football to scouting wrestlers. Pillman is going to try and slow down Liger to win the match.
2.) Zbyszko gets a two count early on with a rollup and follows up with an inside cradle for another two count. Zbyszko taunts Steamboat with almost pinning him twice so early into the bout. Steamboat takes Zbyszko over with a couple of pin attempts and chops Zbyszko knocking Larry to the floor. Steamboat gets stopped by an atomic drop, uppercut and a swinging neck breaker which gets Zbyszko a near fall. Steamboat tries to fight back with chops but an eye rake stops that comeback. Steamboat comes out of the corner with a clothesline but only gets a two count on Zbyszko. Steamboat nearly pins Zbyszko with a cross body and delivers a strike to the throat. Madusa pulls down the ropes causing Steamboat to fall to the floor. Zbyszko tries to slam Steamboat into the ring from the apron but Ricky fights back and this a cross body from the apron to get a three count. After the match, the Dangerous Alliance enters the ring and viciously attack Steamboat. Rude takes his leather belt off and wraps it around his fist. Rude goes to punch Steamboat but Sting runs in and makes the save. Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes and Ron Simmons have also come out for the save. (**. Decent action and a rather quick match.)
3.) Eaton and Windham kick off the match with Windham getting control earl yon but a knee from Anderson stopped that. Windham manages to fight both men off and Simmons hits a double leaping shoulder block. Simmons gets the legal tag but Eaton works over Ron with strikes in the corner. Simmons backdrops Eaton out of the corner and Anderson gets brought into the ring by Simmons with a suplex. Simmons takes the champs down with a few football tackles. Simmons fights out of the corner and Anderson tagged himself in unaware to Simmons. Windham gets the tag into the match and Anderson begs off. Windham gets ready to deck Anderson with a right hand but Anderson bails to the floor. Arn works over Windham with shoulder rams in the corner but Windham catches Arn and hits an atomic drop. Simmons punches Arn from the apron and Anderson rolls to the floor. Eaton and Simmons are the level men with Simmons keeping Eaton on the canvas. Simmons decks Anderson with a right hand on the apron. Simmons splashes Eaton in the corner and delivers more rights. Simmons misses a shoulder ram in the corner hitting the top turnbuckle. Anderson gets tagged in and stomps away on Simmons. Eaton comes off the top to come down across the arm of Simmons before sending Ron to the floor. Anderson sends Simmons shoulder first into the ring post.
Anderson legally enters the match and works on the shoulder but Ron hammers away on Arn. Ron runs the ropes and collides with Anderson causing both men to drop to the canvas. Windham gets the tag and nails Eaton with a clothesline and the same for Anderson. Windham backdrops Eaton and delivers a right hand. Windham heads to the top rope to nail Eaton with a clothesline but Anderson breaks up the cover. Dustin Rhodes and Larry Zbyszko have entered the ring and are brawling. The match continues with Windham decking Zbyszko with a right hand and pins Zbyszko, who was NOT part of the match. (**. Ugh, I despise that finish since it makes zero sense. It’s a decent match, but that match annoys me to no end.)
A lot of decent action that involved the top names in the company for the time. It’s just some hype for Superbrawl, for the most part, but it’s not a bad show.
