Matches:
1.) Bam-Bam Bigelow defeated Brian Faulkner
2.) Jean Pierre Lafitte defeated Rodney Anoui
3.) Henry Godwinn defeated AC Conner
4.) Bret Hart defeated Waylon Mercy by disqualification
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) On October 6th at Madison Square Garden, Bret Hart will be meeting Isaac Yankeem in singles action. However, Hart will have George Steele in his corner. Steele will make sure that Lawler doesn’t get involved in the action.
2.) Bret Hart shared some thoughts during Lafitte’s match. Hart says that everyone wants a shot at the Hitman. He’s going to knock everyones teeth down their throats. He is hyping his match with Waylon Mercy. Hart is going take care of the con man and he is confident that he’ll get his jacket back from Lafitte.
3.) After Lafitte’s match, Bret Hart comes out and attacks Lafitte on the floor. They brawl briefly until officials are able to separate them.
4.) Dean Douglas hosts his Report Card segment. The word tonight is abrogate which is the failure to obtain ones dreams. The example Douglas uses is when Ramon failed to win against Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam. Douglas grades Ramon a miserable failure. Next week, Douglas will be competing in singles action against the 1-2-3 Kid.
5.) Ted DiBiase appears on the aisle way during Godwinn’s match. Henry went to the floor after his match where DiBiase has his slop bucket. King Kong Bundy comes out and attacks Henry. Bundy holds Henry and DiBiase tosses the slop but hits Bundy on accident! Bundy freaks out and asks what DiBiase is doing.
6.) Vince McMahon conducts an interview with Jim Cornette and the British Bulldog in the ring. Bulldog turned on WWF World Champion Diesel two weeks ago on RAW. McMahon wants to know why Bulldog did it. Cornette chimes in and says that everyone has been part of it. Bulldog has done all the work but doesn’t get any of the credit. Cornette was saddled with a partner like Lex Luger and won all the matches, but didn’t get any of the glory. Instead, Luger got the attention when the fans chanted USA. Cornette puts over Bulldog as a top star but has never gotten a chance to compete for the WWF World Championship. Cornette believes it is because everyone is afraid of Bulldog. McMahon wants to know from Bulldog how it felt to double cross Diesel. Bulldog says he is sorry that he didn’t turn on Diesel sooner than he did. Bulldog says that nice guys finish last, and he’s not going to be nice anymore. He signed autographs and got nothing. When he wrestled against Owen Hart, the fans chanted for Bret. The fans chanted for USA. He wants more and he’s going to get more. Cornette says that Bulldog’s bite is a lot worse than his bark.
7.) Mercy wants to shake hands and Hart does it. They lockup with Mercy backing Hart into the ropes but breaks away cleanly. Mercy cheap shots Hart with a left hand and rams Bret face first into the corner. Mercy chokes Bret over the top rope for a few moments. Mercy misses a splash in the corner and Hart hammers away on Waylon’s left arm before taking Mercy down to the canvas delivering a few knee drops to the arm. Hart leg drops the arm but Waylon stops Hart with a strike. Mercy slams Hart but misses an elbow drop. Hart continues to control Waylon on the canvas. Mercy gets up and misses a clothesline but drives Bret down with a side slam for a two count. Waylon tosses Bret to the floor and eventually goes to the floor to continue beating on Hart as we go to commercial.
Waylon slingshots Hart off the ropes sending Bret down to the canvas. Hart nearly wins with an inside cradle but Waylon regains control driving Hart face first into the canvas a couple of times. Hart backdrops Mercy to get out of a piledriver, but Mercy clubs Hart over the back with a strike. Bret blocks a strike and tries to fight out of the corner but gets stopped by Mercy. Mercy attempts a suplex but Bret counters with a suplex of his own. Mercy runs into a big boot in the corner and Bret comes off the middle rope to hit a clothesline for a near fall. Hart takes Mercy over with a side Russian leg sweep. Bret comes off the middle rope with a forearm drop for a near fall. Jean Pierre Lafitte comes into the ring and attacks Hart after Hart had hit a back breaker on Mercy. Lafitte is wearing Hart’s jacket. Hart gets up and pummels Lafitte in the corner with strikes but Waylon Mercy helps out Lafitte. Hart fights out of the corner with right hands but Mercy goes to the top only to be knocked off by Bret. Bret goes to the floor and brawls Lafitte some more as officials try to break them apart. (*1/2. Not an awful match but it was rather boring. The brawl with Hart and Lafitte was some good action and got the feud over a little more.)
8.) Next week, Dean Douglas makes his in-ring debut and Lex Luger speaks… or does he?
Final Thoughts:
This was mostly a show all about Bret Hart and the various feuds he has going on at the moment, which I don’t mind. The Bulldog interview was nicely done and his heel turn seems totally warranted to me given the reasons. I’d say it was a solid episode overall this week.
Thanks for reading.
