Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Footage from Halloween Havoc where Hulk Hogan retained the WCW World Championship and thus retired Ric Flair. However, Hogan would find out after the match that his longtime friend Brother Brutus was a masked man and turned on Hogan. He is now going by the name The Butcher. Also, Avalanche (formerly Earthquake) made his debut at Halloween Havoc.
2.) Speaking of Avalanche, this is his WCW Saturday Night debut. He is aligned with The Butcher and Kevin Sullivan. They are being called the three Faces of Fear. I’m fairly certain he’s wearing his Earthquake ring gear and his music is very similar. WCW seems incapable of producing new stars, huh?
3.) A video promoting WCW Television Champion Johnny B. Badd is aired. Even back in 1994, Badd was actively speaking to kids, which he has made a career as of 2017.
4.) We see footage of the masked man trying to attack Hogan and failing at doing so. Hogan prevented him from leaving the ring and takes the mask off following a right hand. It ends up being Brother Brutus and Hogan is in complete shock. Kevin Sullivan came into the ring and here comes Avalanche to attack Hogan and there is a three on one attack. Avalanche drives Hogan down with a power slam and a sit down splash. Eventually, Sting runs down and leaps off the top to take Butcher and Avalanche out with a cross body off the top rope.
5.) Faces of Fear come out for an interview. Butcher takes credit for what success Hogan has had in his career. He was always motivating Hogan and getting him to the shows. Butcher says that Gene doesn’t know anything about his life. He’s been waiting a long time for this opportunity and he’s stepping up for himself. Avalanche chimes in and says that Hogan won’t show his face when he’s around. Kevin Sullivan considers these guys his family now since Hogan took his family away. They will be wrestling Sting, Hulk Hogan and Dave Sullivan at the Clash of the Champions on November 16th.
6.) Dave Sullivan comes out to be interviewed. He’s quite excited to be teaming with Hulk Hogan and Sting at Clash of the Champions. Dave says that Kevin use to put his head in the snow until his face was blue so he knows what avalanche is all about.
7.) WCW World Champion Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart shared some pre-tape comments. Hart says they don’t get mad they get even. Hogan gets mad with Hart and actually tosses the belt to the floor. Hogan talks about his friendship with Butcher and their bond since a young age. Butcher said he’d never leave him and they made it all the way to the top. Hogan is annoyed that Hart would get in his face. Hogan feels like Butcher ripped his heart out of all the fans. Hogan stood by Butcher by his side when his parents passed away. Butcher said he loved Hogan and would stick by him forever. Butcher would watch his back and Butcher pushed Hogan through workouts and everything else. Hogan had no idea that Butcher had sold his soul to evil. Hulk tells Hart to stay out of his way because the rulebook has been tossed and he’s coming for a little piece of Butcher’s soul.
8.) When Worlds Collide, which is a Luca Libre event taking place on November 6th. The main event is a steel cage match between Konnan and Perro Aguayo. There will also be a mask vs. hair match with Hijo Del Santo with Octagon taking on Eddy Guerrero with Love Machine in his corner. Pegasus Kid, 2 Cold Scorpio and Tito Santana will battle Jerry Estrada, La Parka and Blue Panther. Plus, Latin Lover teams with Heavy Metal and Rey Misterio Jr. to take on Madonna’s Boyfriend (that’s his name), Fuerza Guerrero and Psicosis in a battle for respect.
9.) Sting is interviewed following his victory. Sting says that the Butcher talks about when he became blood brothers with Hogan. Sting has rode a few waves and considers Hogan a brother. Here comes Dave Sullivan to chat with Sting, too. Dave wants to paint his face with Sting. Kevin Sullivan comes out and wants Dave to come back to him to get rid of Hogan and Sting. Sting says that Kevin will never slap Dave’s face ever again. Kevin goes to the ring and wants Sting. Sting follows Kevin and they trade strikes. Sting hits the splash in the corner! Sting puts the Scorpion Death Lock on Kevin! Butcher comes out to ringside and teases a slap to Dave. Avalanche appears from behind and clotheslines Sting. Butcher attacks Dave while Avalanche power slams Sting. Avalanche hits the sit down splash! Dave is laid out on the canvas as well. A few enhancement talents try to help out but that doesn’t work very well. Avalanche delivers a leg drop to Dave Sullivan as the show comes to an end with the Faces of Fear standing tall.
Final Thoughts:
I thought it was interesting they would promote a AAA pay per view since I don’t recall a working agreement to this point. The storyline reason for Butcher turning on Hogan makes complete sense, but who really wants to see Butcher in a main event feud with Hogan? That’s the major problem, I think. The only sense of direction I got from this show is that the Faces of Fear are going to be a major focus on TV. This is likely where WCW programming is taking a major dip.
Thanks for reading.
