SMW TV 6/20/1992

1.) Danny Davis defeated Rip Rogers
2.) Buddy Landel defeated Joey Maggs
3.) Dixie Dynamite defeated Paul Lee
4.) SMW Tag Team Champions The Heavenly Bodies defeated Tim Horner & Robert Gibson to retain the titles
1.) Barry Horowitz is behind the commentary team throughout the show and is mimicking Dutch Mantel as he attempts to become a winner instead of a glorified loser.
2.) Buddy Landel wins his squash match using the ropes for leverage to get a submission out of Maggs with the figure four leg lock. Landel goes over to Bob Caudle to be interviewed. Buddy talks about Tim Horner never having $5,000 and likes to screw with his head. Landel is sure that Horner will be leaving Smoky Mountain. He even bought a house in Morristown to mess with Tim Horner.
3.) Bob Caudle interviews the SMW Tag Team Champions the Heavenly Bodies and Jim Cornette. They didn’t win the belts by being nice guys. They aren’t in the ring to shake hands but rather a kick to their pants. Stan Lane says they are so good that people only put their hands on them if they want them to.
4.) SMW Heavyweight Champion Brian Lee cuts a promo on Dirty White Boy and Paul Orndorff. Lee says he can beat one of them one at a time. He will have somebody watching his back.
5.) Dutch Mantel has Paul Orndorff in the ring for an interview. Mantel believes that Paul will be the next SMW Heavyweight Champion. Orndorff is going to try and explain things to the rednecks. Orndorff says that Bob Armstrong will not allow him to use the piledriver. Orndorff asks why people can use other moves and Mantel says it’s a conspiracy which Orndorff agrees with. Orndorff says it’s a Smoky Mountain ripoff with Brian Lee having the SMW Heavyweight Championship. Brian Lee tries to get into the ring but is stopped by several officials and wrestlers. Lee is wearing ridiculous looking sweatpants that you’d only see in the 90s.
6.) Time for the main event as Stan Lane and Robert Gibson kick it off. Lane tries to stall but gets kicked on the apron. Lane gets the advantage with an eye rake and a kick to the midsection and then to the upper back. Gibson drops Lane with a kick to the back of the head. Pritchard gets tagged in but gets punched by the challengers. Gibson monkey flips Pritchard and works over his arm. Gibson delivers a fist drop but Pritchard bails to the corner. Horner tags in and double teams Pritchard. Tom gets dropped with a double clothesline. Horner knocks the champs down and hits a head scissors on Pritchard. Horner backdrops Pritchard and hip tosses Lane as the champs failed at a double team. Lane yanks Horner by the hair from the apron to allow Pritchard to get the advantage. Pritchard drives Horner to the canvas with a vertical suplex. Lane comes off the middle rope to hit a double axe handle. Pritchard scoop slams Horner but misses an elbow drop. Gibson gets the hot tag and cleans house but misses a spear and hits the ring post. Cornette nails Gibson with a tennis racket. Horner gets the tag and hip tosses the champs followed by scoop slams. Horner has a sleeper hold on Pritchard but Buddy Landel comes out to ringside. Buddy trips Horner and pulls him to the floor and rams Horner face first into the ring post. Pritchard drops Horner with a clothesline and gets the win. (**. A basic tag match that wasn’t all that boring as I may have been expecting. Buddy getting involved adds more heat to his feud with Horner.)
7.) Bob Caudle interviews the Heavenly Bodies and Jim Cornette to end the program. Bob Armstrong comes over and says that if Buddy interferes in another match than he will be suspended. Armstrong is giving the Fantastics plenty of rope in their upcoming matches with the champs.
I wasn’t overly entertained by the show this week, but if did well in advancing the Orndorff/Lee and Buddy/Horner feuds. The three major feuds at the moment are Lee/DWB/Orndorff, Horner/Buddy and the Fantastics/Heavenly Bodies for the tag straps. They just need to find a groove with their television.
