Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Windham backs Austin into a corner early on but backs away after a shove. Austin goes for a right hand, but it’s blocked and Austin backs away to avoid a right hand from Windham. Windham takes Austin over with a few arm drags and a clothesline to control Austin in the early moments. Austin gets a few shoulder rams in the corner and hammers away on Windham, but Barry knocks the champ to the floor after a series of right hands. Windham knocks Austin off the apron but is pulled to the floor where Austin sends Windham into the railing. Austin drops Windham with a short arm clothesline. Austin rolls back into the ring and drops Windham across the top rope. Austin slingshots Windham into the ring from the apron. Windham fights back with a backdrop but is dumped to the floor. Windham pulls Austin to the floor and sends Austin into the railing. They brawl on the floor until Windham sends Austin into the railing and Austin falls into the crowd. Windham hits a suplex on the outside! Back in the ring, Windham runs into a big boot and Austin hits a clothesline for a two count. Windham drives Austin down with an atomic drop and an uppercut. Windham takes Austin over with a suplex. Windham lands on Austin to counter a suplex and takes Austin over with a gut wrench suplex for a two count. Barry goes for the superplex but Madusa gets on the apron and holds Windham’s foot nearly allowing Austin to win the match. Instead, Larry Zbyszko runs into the ring and attacks Windham to cause a cheap disqualification. After the match, Dustin Rhodes slides into the ring and makes the save. (*`1/2. Well, that was quite a lame finish making me feel like they just wanted to get these guys on TV and try and get a good rating with it. The action was fine, but nothing that kept me overly entertained or interested.)
2.) Anderson attacks Steamboat before the bell, but Steamboat is able to fight back with chops to drop Anderson a few times. Steamboat follows up with a kick for a two count. Ricky punches Anderson ten times in the corner but Arn controls Steamboat with several strikes. Steamboat slides through the legs and super kicks Anderson for a near fall. Steamboat delivers a standing spin kick to the midsection for another two count. Arn works over Steamboat in the corner with strikes to the midsection. Arn sends Ricky chest first into the corner and hits a back suplex. Arn drives Steamboat down with a back breaker but Ricky powers out at two. Anderson works over the lower back of Ricky, but Steamboat continues to fight back with strikes. Arn takes Ricky back down to the canvas to control with a sleeper. Ricky tries to run the ropes but a strike to the midsection stops that momentum. Steamboat attempts a slingshot from the apron but Anderson doesn’t go down and nails Ricky with a left hand for a two count. Anderson scoop slams Steamboat and gets a two count. Steamboat leg trips Anderson and puts the figure four on Anderson! The camera cuts away as the hold was broken by Paul E. Dangerously, but we didn’t see it. Steamboat kicks Anderson chest first into the corner. Steamboat connects with a swinging neck breaker but Anderson gets his knees up to block a big splash attempt. Anderson runs into a big boot but Ricky soon runs into a spine buster from Anderson! Steamboat nearly wins with an inside cradle. Steamboat atomic drops Anderson into the corner and they collide heads. Anderson eye rakes Steamboat and is rammed back first into the corner as Steamboat avoids a sleeper attempt. Anderson comes off the middle rope for an axe handle but us punched by Steamboat. Ricky on a flurry of offense taking Anderson over with a backdrop and Steamboat hits an overhand chop from the top! Paul E. Dangerously is on the apron and Arn eye rakes Steamboat. Anderson collides with Dangerously on the apron and Dangerously is in the ring! Steamboat threatens to strike Dangerously, who is begging off now. Steamboat atomic drops Dangerously followed by a chop. Rick Rude runs into the ring with a steel chair and tries to hit Steamboat but the referee stops him. Rude still attacks Steamboat and uses a leather belt to choke Steamboat in the middle of the ring. Steamboat gets out of it and has the belt to choke Rude with it! Steamboat hangs Rude over the top rope onto the apron with the belt around his neck! Arn Anderson tries to get his hands on Steamboat but is knocked to the floor. Steamboat stands tall! (***. I thought it was a good TV match and they got plenty of time to do their thing. Also, the aftermath with Rude and Steamboat keeps this feud red-hot, and I’m always interested in what they have planned for the feud.)
3.) WCW US Tag Team Champions Terrance Taylor and Greg Valentine cut a promo downplaying the success that Tom Zank and Marcus Alexander Bagwell have had on them as of late.
Final Thoughts:
Two of the feature matches got plenty of time and the Anderson/Steamboat match was solid with some good aftermath, as well. This felt like a mostly in-ring action show, which I can always appreciate.
