World Championship Wrestling presents Saturday Night
Date:
2/26/1994
From: Atlanta, GA

Matches:
1.) Johnny B. Badd defeated Bill Payne
2.) The Monoglian Mauler defeated Brian Armstrong
3.) WCW World Tag Team Champions the Nasty Boys & Equalizer defeated Pez Whatley, Sonny Rogers & Mike Winner
4.) Terra Ryzing defeated Larry Santo
5.) The Patriot defeated WCW Television Champion Lord Steven Regal in a non-title match
6.) Cactus Jack & Maxx Payne defeated Ricky Santana & Fidel Sierra
7.) Ricky Steamboat defeated Vader by disqualification

Angle Developments/Notes:
1. Ricky Steamboat cuts a promo to start the show telling Vader that he is coming for him due to the recent attack Vader had done to Steamboat, who stuck up for his best friend, WCW World Champion Ric Flair.

2. I believe I mentioned it before, but Brian Armstrong is the future wrestler known as the Roadie or Road Dogg in the WWF.

3. We see footage from Superbrawl IV where Rick Rude slammed a cage door into Sting and hit the Rude Awakening on the floor. Footage of the main event between Vader and Ric Flair is also shown. Vader attacking The Boss and handcuffing Boss to the cage is highlighted. Boss would break free, attack Vader with the nightstick and Flair would win with the figure four.

4. Mean Gene conducted an interview with the Nasty Boys and Equalizer. Sags says they have gone through every team in WCW and now they are focusing on Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne. They keep telling Equalizer to shut up during the interview. Knobs believes they will be champions forever. Equalizer ends up getting attacked by the champs. Equalizer gets up and says he has had enough and says his big brother gave him advice about this bullying. He is going to call his big brother to come after the Nasty Boys.

5. Patriot fought Regal to a draw two weeks ago, setting up this non-title match. Regal starts off with a series of uppercuts to get the advantage on Patriot. Regal attempts a kick, but that is blocked by Patriot who begins to kick Regal’s taped left thigh. Regal gets to the ropes to break a half Boston Crab. Regal goes back to work with some forearm strikes. Patriot avoids the Regal Roll and begins to deliver more kicks to the taped thigh. Patriot drops the champ throat first across the top rope. Patriot rolls through a roll up and pins Regal with a roll up! (*. Again, a not so great match between these two. I looked up the Patriot’s run and he doesn’t get another match with Regal on television, which is rather odd to me.)

6. Mean Gene conducts an interview with the Patriot. He is here to compete the best and he is going to get a belt around his waist. Patriot is tired of Regal insulting the greatest people and the greatest country.

7. Mean Gene conducted an interview with Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne. Jack says they have time on their side and they want a street fight with the tag team champions. Payne says they are ready for anything when it comes to the Nasty Boys.

8. The match started during a commercial break. Steamboat dropkicks Vader and Race to the floor. They go to the floor after Steamboat hit a cross body. Race has the referee distracted while Steamboat whacks Vader over the back with a steel chair several times. Vader is laid out on the floor while the referee counts. Steamboat slaps Vader and baseball slides Vader on the floor. Ricky leaps off the top to chop Vader on the floor. Race attacks Steamboat on the floor to allow Vader to regain control of the bout. Vader clubs Steamboat in the corner to maintain his advantage. Vader jumps off the middle rope to splash Dragon. Steamboat counters a sunset flip with a sit down splash. Dragon with a chop off the top a few times. Ricky nearly wins following a top rope cross body. Dragon hits a top rope splash but Vader kicks out at two. Steamboat avoids a splash as Vader hits Race on accident. Steamboat brings Race into the ring with a suplex and Vader splashes Race on accident! Ricky is fighting both Vader and Race off. Race grabs Steamboat and that causes the disqualification. The Ross runs out and hits Vader with his nightstick. Boss stands tall with Steamboat. (*1/2. These two are capable of so much more. It would appear that they did as little as they had to do. A prime example of a main event between two big names just to get a bump in a rating. That’s all this was.)

Final Thoughts:
Another below standard episode of Saturday Night. The action is always lacking in the bigger matches it seems like. I get that they don’t want to give away too much on television, but come on.

Thanks for reading.
