WCW Saturday Night 2/27/1999

Written by: Bob Colling

World Championship Wrestling presents Saturday Night
Date:
2/27/1999
From: Lakeland, FL

Matches:
1.) Ernest Miller defeated Steve Armstrong
2.) Jerry Flynn defeated The Disciple
3.) Van Hammer defeated Johnny Swinger
4.) Erik Watts defeated Silver King
5.) Juventud Guerrera defeated Lenny Lane
6.) Meng defeated Kendall Windham
7.) Perry Saturn defeated Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker
8.) Meng defeated the Barbarian by disqualification

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Ernest Miller came out for his match using Glacier’s entrance, which Glacier sold to Miller on Thunder previously.

2.) Mean Gene chats with Perry Saturn backstage. Gene says that Saturn could have beaten Jericho at Superbrawl, but Perry wonders what makes Gene think he hasn’t won already. Saturn is stuck in the dress because the officials would think a tattooed guy in a dress would make for great ratings. Saturn assures us that he can get pretty weird and thinks we should watch the show to find out exactly what he is talking about.

3.) Yeah, so, Erik Watts is winning matches in WCW at this point. He sucked in 1992/1993 and he sucks now, as well.

4.) Mean Gene is with the WCW World Tag Team Champions Curt Hennig and Barry Windham. Hennig notes that they promised to win the titles when the tournament started a couple of months ago. Windham says they will accept a rematch against Benoit and Malenko whenever they wanted one. Hennig says if Benoit and Malenko are deserving of a rematch they will make that decision when the time comes.

5.) Jimmy Hart and Barbarian call out Meng, who runs into the ring and chases after Hart before brawling with Barbarian in the ring. Meng clotheslines Barbarian in the corner and takes Barbarian down with a spear. Barbarian mounts Meng with a series of strikes. Meng drops Barbarian with a sidekick and a 2×4 is broken over Meng’s head thanks to Hart, but Meng no sells it. That causes a DQ as they continue to brawl on the floor. (NR. Nothing of a match but the brawl was really fun and I think a short match between them would be interesting and fun to see.)

Final Thoughts:
Yeah, a completely skippable show this week as there wasn’t anything going on that would make you want to watch for two hours.

Thanks for reading.
