August 10, 1991
The current WCW Champs were as follows:
World Champion: Lex Luger (7/14/1991)
U.S. Champion: Vacant (7/14/1991)
World Television Champion: Steve Austin (6/3/1991)
World Tag Team Champions: Vacant (7/18/1991)
U.S. Tag Team Champions: Freebirds (5/19/1991)
World Six-Man Tag Team Champions: Dustin Rhodes, Big Josh & Tom Zenk (8/5/1991)
ALRIGHT! Magnum TA is going to meet up with Lex Luger on “Straight Talk with the Boss” to find out what the heck he’s doing with Harley Race and Mr. Hughes. It’s going to be shocking!
Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Magnum TA!
- Dustin Rhodes vs. Bubba Monroe
Bubba Monroe is one of those loud jobbers like Iron Mike Sharpe from the WWF. Flip Flop and Fly puts Monroe down for an armbar, but it’s the BULLDOG that puts Monroe away. (2:30) Not a bad squash for Dustin Rhodes.
- Johnny B. Badd (w/Teddy Long) vs. Scott Sandlin
Johnny did have some pretty expensive looking robes for only being in his first year in wrestling. They appear to already be trying to turn Johnny face by having him messing around with Steve Austin’s Lady Blossom on a recent episode of World Championship Wrestling. Johnny B. Badd wasn’t that terrible at least in squash matches in his first year. High Knee sets up the KISS THAT DON’T MISS. (2:14) Sandlin gets a kiss sticker on his cheek.

WCW World Heavyweight Champ Lex Luger
- The Patriots vs. Black Bart & Rich Myers
So much for that great Desperadoes gimmick. Black Bart’s a jobber now. Rich Myers looks like a scrawny teenager, which makes him look ridiculous standing next to a rugged dude like Black Bart. This is the Worldwide debuts of Firebreaker Chip and Todd Champion. Yes, a fireman and a special ops guy who tell kids to not do drugs and don’t play with matches. Black Bart actually gets in some offense on Todd Champion, but that’s short-lived as Champion reverses a hiptoss. The miss-matched jobber team regroup and Firebreaker Chip wants a try. Chip puts him away with a super Samoan drop for the win. (3:02) Of course, Tony thinks they’re the best thing since sliced bread. Not in the history of the sport apparently, but at least since sliced bread.
The Enforcers promo: Tonight, they face Robert Gibson and Tom Zenk! Arn flat out tells us he’s going after Gibson’s sore knee. It’s that simple.
- The Enforcers vs. Robert Gibson & Tom Zenk
Like an IDIOT, Gibson starts the match with Zbyszko. Big brawl erupts and Gibson ends up on the floor, so Arn sneaks around and nails him in the bad knee with a chair! The Enforcers pound and post the crap out of Gibson’s knee. Zenk breaks up a figure-four, but he doesn’t break up the half-Boston crab from Arn that causes the ref to stop the match.(3:20) Gibson needs to start watching his opponents’ promos before he walks out to that ring. Short, but a real effective squash there. *½
It’s time for “Straight Talk with the Boss” with Magnum TA! His guest today is Lex Luger along with Harley Race and Mr. Hughes. Lex basically says the same stuff he said in that post-match interview we saw a week or two ago, which leaves us just as clueless as before.
- Terrence Taylor (w/Alexandra York) vs. Yellow Dog
Okay, this actually is Brian Pillman this week. Taylor takes a headscissors out to the floor and checks with the computer to start. Back in, Yellow Dog gets a rollup for two. Dog grabs a headlock, but then misses a charge in the corner and gets nailed with a nifty gutwrench powerbomb for two. Taylor hits a running neck snap and a knee drop for another two-count. Taylor grabs a chinlock, but Dog comes up chopping back. ENZIGURI! Jumping clothesline from Yellow Dog and a crucifix into a sunset flip gets 1-2-3. (3:59) Another short one, but probably could’ve been better without a few rest holds. **
Next week’s main event will be The Enforcers vs. Bobby Eaton and Big Josh! Oh boy!
Another Enforcers promo: Eaton and Josh want these guys? Well, they’re going to get it!
Bobby Eaton & Big Josh promo: They’re going to cut The Enforcers down! Big Josh is a lumberjack, you know.
- The Hardliners vs. Rick Steiner & a mystery partner
The mystery partner is…STING! It’s about time that guy was on this show. This is Scott’s Revenge and who better than one of Scott’s buddies to help dish out some retribution. DFG and Sting trade tags working on Murdoch and Slater’s arms, but Murdoch rakes Rick’s eyes to put a stop to it for the moment. Murdoch tries to break Steiner’s arm, but he breaks free and makes a HOT TAG TO STING! DFG beats Murdoch into a corner as Sting hits the Stinger Splash on Slater to set up the SCORPION DEATHLOCK, but Murdoch tosses Steiner and nails Sting. Meanwhile, Rick runs in with a chair for the Hardliners and gets DQ’ed. (4:52) Oh, this feud is NOT over. Not a terrible match and the DQ works fine considering how mad you would be if a couple geezers tore your brother’s bicep. *
THAT IS ALL!
Final Thoughts: Wow, no matches over five minutes on this show. Kind of sad because Pillman/Taylor could’ve been great if it was just given another five minutes. They seem to be going through the motions until something big finally occurs, which is what I’m waiting for at this point.
