Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

Gorilla welcomes us to the show and Bobby wants to immediately put the Islanders up first. Gorilla laughs, talks about Bobby stiffing a bill for dinner in Boston, then tells us our main event tonight is six-man tag team action. The Tag Team Champions, the Hart Foundation & Danny Davis against the British Bulldogs & Billy Jack Haynes. First off a title match

WWF Intercontinental Championship
Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat © vs. Honky Tonk Man
Memorial Auditorium, Buffalo NY (6/2/87)
Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura

Joined in progress and Steamboat cleans the ring. Steamboat with a back suplex on Honky followed by a chop and Steamboat’s dominating the action. More chops and punches from Steamboat but on a kick out of a roll up Steamboat goes face first into the turnbuckle. Honky works Steamboat’s throat over on the ropes but Steamboat chops back. Honky with a low knee and body slam. Honky to the second rope misses an elbow drop. Steamboat with more chops but Steamboat puts his head down and Honky kicks him. Honky goes for the Shake, Rattle & Roll but Steamboat with a back drop. More chops and a backdrop. Steamboat to the top with a chop to the head but Jimmy Hart distracts the ref. Steamboat cleans Hart off the apron, and Steamboat goes for a roll up but Honky rolled back, grabbed the ropes and got the shocking 3 count. Thus the longest (and most ridiculous) Intercontinental Title reign in WWF history begins. WINNER: Honky Tonk Man with a roll-up & the ropes at 5:35

-In studio Gorilla jaws with Honky Tonk Man on the phone and Bobby’s ordering champagne for Honky’s celebration in the studio. Gorilla changes the subject and now thinks Bobby’s neck brace from the Ken Patera injury is a big joke and the injury is healed.

Can-Am Connection vs. Shadows
Madison Square Garden, 6/14/87
Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan & Lord Alfred Hayes

Sorry, but after two straight god awful matches with the Young Stallions over the past 2 shows I will spare you the play-by-play of another Shadows match. The Can-am Connection wins with a Martel Crossbody on one of the Shadows. Bobby comes into the ring to say they wouldn’t have won the match if the Islanders were there. Haku & Tama come out but are held back by referees & officials. WINNERS: Can-Am Connection when Rick Martel pins Shadow #1 with a crossbody at 18:30

-Gorilla admonishes Bobby for his behavior in that match, but Bobby says he was simply issuing a challenge. I hope we don’t have to see the Shadows anymore.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

-We return from break and we have the next chapter of the “Superstar” Billy Graham story in another edition of “Special Report” with Craig DeGeorge. He was one of my favorite WWF reporters, sort of the Michael Cole of the early 80’s. A precursor to the legend, Sean Mooney. From there, we go to Mean Gene Okerlund with Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake. He was just coming up the babyface ladder after being hung out to dry by the “New Dream Team” at Wrestlemania III.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

-Gorilla talks about the awesome LJN action figures, including Bobby Heenan’s with the neck brace.

Young Stallions vs. Islanders
Madison Square Garden, 6/14/87
Gorilla Monsoon & Lord Alfred Hayes

At least the Stallions have a decent opponent instead of those hideous Shadows. Tama is picking a fight with some guy at ringside, but they won’t show who. Roma starts with Tama, and Tama begs off. Tama’s off his rocker tonight, arguing with the ref. Tama with a shoulder block but Roma almost blows the leapfrog and hits a hip toss. Tama bails and the Islanders confer with Bobby. Tama extends his hand in friendship, and Roma almost reciprocates and Tama goes for a kick but Roma catches with an Atomic Drop. Tag to Haku. They lock up and a clean break on the ropes. Haku extends his hand and Roma doesn’t take it. They lock up again and Haku with a shot to the gut. Off the ropes and shoulder block is tied. Another and Roma hits a boot to the head. They lock up again, and Roma with a headlock. Tag to Powers and a double elbow. Powers goes back to the headlock. Haku pushes off but his hiptoss is reversed into another. Tag to Tama and he gets caught in an armbar. Powers with a shoulder block, but Tama ducks the clothesline, yet eats a drop kick. Tama bails and another conference with Heenan. Powers with an armbar, and a tag to Roma who continues it with an axehandle. Tag to Powers and a double drop kick for 2. Tama gets Powers into their corner and Haku holds him but he ducks and Tama nails Haku. Powers back to the armbar. We go to commercial and return with Tama still getting beat down by Powers. Tag to Roma and more armbars. For 4 high flyers this match is dreadfully boring. Tama pushes him to the corner and tags Kaku who hits some chops. Roma’s into the ropes and gets hit with a drop kick but misses a leg drop. Roma with right hands but Haku with a chop to the eyes. Haku with more chops and punches in the corner. Haku with a slam but misses the head butt drop. Roma goes into the ropes and knocks Tama off, but back the other way and Tama trips him from the floor. Haku keeps working Roma over and a tag to Tama who hits a chop off the second rope. Tama with some choking and when Powers distracts the ref the Islanders switch. Roma goes for a sunset flip but Haku chops him. Haku with a nice inverted Atomic Drop. Tag to Tama who’s choking when Powers turns the ref’s attention. Haku with a snap mare into a nerve pinch. Haku keeps hitting the chops and a tag to Tama. Roma blocks a suplex and hits his own. Tama gets up first and tags Haku and a double chop to the chest. Haku with head butts, and some back rakes. Roma and Haku exchange punches but Roma can’t get the tag. Tag to Tama who drop kicks Roma while Haku holds him upside down for 2. Tama goes to the nerve pinch now. Couple 2 counts and a tag to Haku and a thrust kick to the face. Haku goes for a back drop and Roma with a boot. Haku stops the tag and a front facelock. Tama pulls Roma’s tights all the way to the corner. More double teaming and Tama with the front facelock. Roma’s fighting and Haku knocks Powers off the apron. More double teaming and Haku with a slam but he misses a flip. Roma’s crawling and finally gets the tag. Tama is also tagged but Powers cleans house and drop kicks everybody. Powers fucks up a back drop and Tama with a powerslam for 2. All 4 guys in the ring and eventually Tama hits Powers with the top rope splash for the win. WINNERS: Islanders when Tama pins Powers with a top rope splash at 19:14

-Gorilla says the Islanders are not championship material. Gorilla sometimes just goes after Bobby with no rhyme or reason just because. The Islanders actually wrestled a good match. Back from commercial and our hosts are in their mail basket as Gorilla and Bobby are giving away calendars.

WWF Tag Team Champions Hart Foundation & Danny Davis vs. British Bulldogs & Billy Jack Haynes
Madison Square Garden, 6/14/87
Gorilla Monsoon & Lord Alfred Hayes

The faces storm the ring and the heels bail. The Pink & Black were still the tag champs here. Billy Jack was subbing for Koko here. Davey Boy & Bret start, and who’d have thought how their career paths would criss-cross. Off the ropes and Davey Boy shoves Bret out of the ring. They lock hands and Bret with an armbar. Davey flips out and takes over the armbar. Bulldog holds Bret up with it. Davey slams Bret into Dynamite’s boots and a tag to Haynes. BJH with a headlock. Tag to Dynamite and a clothesline for 2. Dynamite lifts Bret by the hair and drops him for 2. Dynamite with an armbar. This match will go exactly as the last one did. Tag to Davey who drops a axe handle on the arm. Off the ropes and Bret reverses a crucifix into a Samoan Drop. Tag to Anvil who misses a head butt. Davey grabs him by the beard and a tag to BJH. He works the arm over and a tag to Dynamite. Anvil with an eye poke and with the ref distracted gets some chops in. Anvil with some shots of his own and a tag to Davis. He kicks Dynamite but the Kid catches a punch. Davis with a low blow and a tag to Anvil. Anvil with a kick and a quick tag to Bret. Some right hands and the heels keep working as we go to commercial. Back from break and Dynamite is getting worked over in the heel corner. Dynamite goes for a suplex but Anvil blocks it. Tag to Bret and he hits a leg drop. Bret with an uppercut and a tag to Davis. He goes for a slingshot but hits Dynamite’s knees. Tag to BJH and he cleans house. He slams Davis and BJH goes for the Full Nelson but the champs break it up. Tag to Bret and a backbreaker for 2. Tag to Anvil and he hits some clubbing blows. They head into the heels’ corner and Davis/Bret choke while Anvil distracts the ref. Anvil pitches BJH out of the ring and Bret slams his head into the canvas. Davis & Anvil work BJH over in the ring. Davis with kicks and punches on BJH. BJH tries to fight back and Bret is tagged in. Bret chokes him on the ropes and a reverse atomic drop for 2. BJH with a Sunset Flip for 2. Bret with a headlock and we have a second commercial break. We return and as he goes off the ropes Bret with a knee to the back. Anvil with knees to the head and BJH is outside. He gets back in the ring and Anvil drops him on the top rope. Ref’s distracted and Bret gets in without a tag. Now Bret distracts and Anvil with the cheating. Bret with right hands and kicks. Davis back in and some punches & kicks. Tag to Anvil and BJH is in the heels’ corner. Anvil with a chinlock. Bret keeps working him over but BJH with a clothesline. He’s gassed and Bret takes over with a front facelock. Dynamite distracts the ref and the heels triple team but the Harts clothesline Davis instead. Tag finally to Davey Boy and he holds Bret up for the teardrop suplex for 2. Pandemonium ensues and guys are flying everywhere. Bret’s down and Davey slams Dynamite on him for the 3 count. WINNERS: British Bulldogs & Billy Jack Haynes when Dynamite Kid pins Bret Hart after Davey Boy Smith slams him on Hart at 18:08

-Next week we’ll see Bobby’s X-Rays as Gorilla says he’s goldbricking. We’re out!
