World Wrestling Federation presents RAW
Date:
9/25/1995
From: Grand Rapids, MI

Matches:
1.) Marty Jannetty defeated Skip
2.) The Smoking Gunns defeated WWF World Tag Team Champions Owen Hart & Yokozuna to win the titles
3.) The Undertaker defeated Davey Boy Smith by disqualification

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) This is Marty Jannetty’s return to the WWF since early ’94. Jannetty takes Skip over with a couple of hip tosses and a dropkick sends Skip to the floor. Skip works over Marty with strikes in the corner but Jannetty soon hits a backdrop to send Skip to the outside again. Jannetty goes to the floor and punches Skip and tricks Sunny into hugging her and she flips out. Marty controls Skip on the canvas with a hammerlock but Skip gets up quickly to break the hold. Sunny grabs Marty’s foot to allow Skip to hit a gut wrench suplex. Skip follows up with a snap suplex as we see Dean Douglas taking notes in the aisle way as we go to commercial.

Skip turns Jannetty inside out with a clothesline to keep control in his favor. Marty has Skip on his shoulder but Skip wiggles free only for Jannetty to hit a German suplex for a two count. Jannetty counters a hurricanrana attempt with a power bomb! Marty nails Skip with a spinning back elbow strike and a high knee lift. Marty hits a cross body but has to deal with Sunny on the apron. Skip tries to attack but is backdropped over the top to the floor. Sunny trips Jannetty on a suplex attempt and Skip gets a two count. Jannetty plants Skip with the Rocker Dropper! Marty goes to the top and hits a fist drop for the win! (***. A competitive match and some good crowd reactions. Skip was incredibly underrated and Jannetty was still a solid hand in the ring. I’m sure the match didn’t help ratings because they aren’t stars, but it was still a fun seven minute match.)

2.) An announcement is made that due to Owen Hart is being pinned was not the right call because the British Bulldog was the tag champion with Yokozuna. Thus, the decision is reversed and the tag titles were returned to Yokozuna and Owen Hart.

3.) Bart and Owen kick off the match with Bart missing a cross body but recovers to drop Owen with a drop toe hold. Billy tags in and yanks on Owen’s arm. Owen hammers away on Billy in the corner but Billy decks Owen after avoiding Owen’s head scissors attempt out of the corner. Yokozuna gets tagged in and Billy backs off to regroup. Billy dropkicks Yokozuna and hits a running bulldog to knock Yoko off his feet! Yoko plants Billy with a Samoan Drop and Owen Hart gets a few cheap shots in on Billy. Billy nearly wins with a sunset flip on Owen but Owen quickly nails Billy with a kick to the head for a near fall. Owen takes Billy down with a swinging neck breaker and leaps off the top to nearly win with a cross body. Yoko pummels Billy in the corner with right hands. Yoko keeps Billy not the canvas with a nerve hold. Billy fights back to his feet but Yoko delivers a back elbow and misses an elbow drop. Yoko misses a big splash and both men are on the canvas. Bart and Owen get tagged in and Bart hits a backdrop. Bart press slams Owen and gets a two count on the cover attempt. Billy goes after Yokozuna and all four men are brawling. Owen gets sent into Yoko, who falls in the corner. The Gunns hit the side slam/leg drop combo! Yoko accidentally big splashes Owen and is knocked to the floor. Bart covers Owen and they regain the tag titles! (**1/2. A fine title match involving these two teams with the crowd popping for the victory. An end to the near six month title reign for Owen and Yokozuna.) After the match, Diesel and Shawn Michaels share the spotlight with the new champs.

4.) Next week, it will be Bret Hart against Jean Pierre Lafitte. Also, Razor Ramon wrestles the 1-2-3 Kid again.

5.) Gorilla Monsoon announces that the British Bulldog will challenge Diesel for the WWF World Championship on October 22nd. Plus, whomever wins that match will wrestle Bret Hart at Survivor Series. WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels defends against Dean Douglas.

6.) Bulldog gets the early advantage striking Taker but gets whiplashed down to the canvas. Taker sends Bulldog hard into the corner and chokes Bulldog. Taker hits a leaping clothesline and goes to the top rope but British Bulldog yanks Taker down to the mat. Taker big boots Bulldog and follows up with a scoop slam but misses an elbow drop. Bulldog clotheslines Taker over the top to the floor. Taker grabs Jim Cornette but Bulldog comes out and chop blocks Taker’s knee. Bulldog sends Taker into the ring post and ring steps! King Mabel and Mo are looking on at the aisle way while Bulldog works overs Taker. Waylon Mercy is looking on as well.

Bulldog puts a half Boston Crab on Taker but isn’t going to get a submission. Bulldog goes for the running power slam but Taker counters with a back suplex. Taker goes to the top rope and this time jumps across the arm of Bulldog. Bulldog counters a backdrop attempt by spiking Taker with a piledriver but only gets a near fall! Bulldog gets another two count following a vertical suplex. Taker ducks a clothesline and plants Bulldog with a choke slam! Mabel and Mo make their way down to the ring. The distraction allows Bulldog to knee lift Taker from behind and Mabel hits a belly to belly suplex. That’s good enough for a DQ and Bulldog delivers a running power slam. Mabel hits a leg drop but here comes Diesel and Shawn Michaels to run out and make the save. (*1/4. Well, that was rather boring main event but an effective aftermath, I guess.) After the match, Owen Hart, Yokozuna and the Smoking Gunns all come out as the baby faces stand in the ring and the heels remain on the outside.

Final Thoughts:
Sure the main event wasn’t all that great, but the opener and tag match were both nicely done and made up for a good show, I thought. RAW has been alright early on in the Monday Night War.

Thanks for reading.
