ECW House Show 6/9/2000

Extreme Championship Wrestling House Show
Date:
6/9/2000
From: Erie, PA

They’re running this show in a Civic Center, which is easily a 5,000 seat venue and there’s nobody sitting in the upper sections. It looks as if there is only fans on the floor. I’m hoping they got a deal on the venue since there’s no way they would have sold a lot of tickets for this show.

Opening Contest: Kid Kash vs. Julio Dinero: The fans are insulting Dinero quite a bit before the bell sounds. Kash gains control with a wrist lock, but Dinero rolls through and counters with a wrist lock of his own. Kash rolls around and trips Dinero to the mat. Dinero stops Kash with a swinging neckbreaker. Dinero climbs to the top and misses a moonsault. Kash clotheslines Dinero a few times, but Dinero tries to fight back with a powerbomb. Kash counters and hits the Money Maker for the win. (**. Not a bad start despite a couple of sloppy moments. Dinero showed some unique offense and Kash is usually enjoyable considering his style. The crowd is vocal and ready to insult heels all night.)

Prior to the next match, Simon Diamond cuts a promo about having a problem. Diamond and Swinger and blue chip athletes while Doring has multiple sex partners. The crowd loves this about Doring. Diamond thinks being blue chip athletes is pretty cool. Doring suggests Diamond shuts his mouth. It’s amazing how often they use the homophobic slurs on these shows whether is crowd or wrestlers. Jazz makes her way out to be in the corner of Doring and Roadkill for the match.

A decent tag match and they didn’t waste time with stalling or anything.)

Third Contest: Jerry Lynn vs. Justin Hellfire: If you couldn’t guess, Justin Hellfire is a local wrestler that is not an ECW regular by any means. Hellfire spikes Lynn with a cradle piledriver, but Lynn kicks out at two. Lynn counters a powerbomb with a head scissors for a near fall. Lynn hammers away on Hellfire and ends up hitting the cradle piledriver for the win. (*. This is kind of a waste of Lynn on a live event to be saddled with a local guy that nobody knows. Hellfire doesn’t get a gig out of this, by the way. I just looked it up and Hellfire is actually Bam Neely, who had a brief run on WWE/ECW. I was not expecting that.)

These kinds of matches come across better when it’s not every match on the card. I think this shows that ECW evolved over time. The crowd wanted blood and they got their fix of it quite a bit here.)

Tajiri kicks Corino as Raven plants Anton with the Evenflow DDT for the win. (*1/2. The definition of what you’d expect from a house tag match. They kept it simple and basic. It shouldn’t be surprising since it’s a rather low crowd number.)

RVD gave effort and Guido had his working boots on as well to provide a quality main event to end the show. I thought the interference would be more involved, but I’m glad they didn’t overdo it here.)

Final Thoughts:
The card looked to be an interesting one on paper, but this ended up under-delivering for me. There’s some decent wrestling, but it’s the definition of a house show effort for ECW. So, it’s a disappointing show, but I should have expected this considering it’s not televised.
