JCW Lunacy
Date:
9/25/2024
From: Detroit, MI

A video package promoting Devil’s Night taking place on October 30th is shown. It’s the first supercard in the Lunacy era taking place on PPV. Nic Nemeth and Matt Riddle are promoted as being on the show along with other Lunacy regulars.

Matt Cardona comes out to start the show and he will be the special guest commentator. Cardona gets into it with a fan in the second row during his entrance before reaching the commentary table. Cardona flips off the crowd confirming he’s a heel.

Backstage, Joe Galli talks about JCW introducing a women’s championship and a women’s tag team championship soon. Mad Man Pondo is playing with a weapon behind Galli for some reason.

MATCH #1: CHRISTINA MARIE VS. HEATHER RECKLESS
FINISH:
Marie avoids a second Spanish Fly attempt and wins following a middle rope spear.

Bob’s Take: The crowd seems to be pretty vocal in Detroit with a female fan clearly yelling for these two women to beat the crap out of each other. Marie showcased some good power moves including a devastating release German suplex. Reckless kind of gave me punk-rock Trish Stratus vibes. Reckless hit an incredible split legged Spanish Fly, which is not something I expected. I thought that was a damn good opening match. The crowd felt a little flat on the finish and it may have been better to just have Reckless go over with the Spanish Fly finisher, because that was quite impressive. Easily the best match in Lunacy’s brief history to this point.
Match Rating: ***1/2

MATCH #2: THE ULTIMATE ELLSWORTH VS. DARION ULTRA
FINISH:
Ellsworth wins following a big splash.

Bob’s Take: The Ultimate Ellsworth gimmick seemed to get over better in Detroit than it did in Columbus. Ellsworth actually has Warrior inspired gear this time around. It’s comedy and it was a short segment, so who really cares.
Match Rating: NR

A video package focusing on Officer Cabana patrolling the streets. Cabana will be back on Lunacy next week and tells us to believe in police brutality.

MATCH #3: AOD, SANTANA JACKSON & ZACH GOWEN VS. KONGO KONG & REDWOOD GIANTS (KURT & PAUL)
NOTE:
John E. Bravo brings out Kong and the Redwood Giants. Bravo says that Eric Smalls is no longer the contract holder of the giants and he now has their contracts.
FINISH: Kong hits a top rope splash and pins AOD.

Bob’s Take: I like the trio of Kong and the Redwood Giants as a dominant group in JCW. John E. Bravo came across as a better mouthpiece than Eric Smalls. Gowen plays the underdog role very well and it’s not because he’s a one-legged wrestler. Gowen sells the power moves in a believable manner. I think it is just a matter of time before Kong is going after Willie Mack.
Match Rating: *1/2

Shaggy’s Spotlight this week focuses on 2 Tuff Tony. Shaggy notes that Tony has been JCW Heavyweight Champion so many times that they lost count. We see footage of Tony competing in JCW over the years.

JCW Tag Team Champions Southern Six make their way out to the ring to celebrate their title victory from last week. Kerry Morton is having a blast stroking the badd blaster. Well, so does Silas Mason. Kerry tells them to shut up when they talk. This is the Moonshine and Swine celebration. Kerry promises the tag titles will be with them for a long time. Silas Mason chimes in and thanks Detroit from the bottom of their heart. Silas thanks them for reminding them how great it is to not be from there and lists everything wrong with Detroit from pot holes to violence on the streets. Silas believes the Detroit Lions will never win the Super Bowl. Silas proclaims that nobody will be getting a tag title opportunity. The fans are tossing garbage into the ring during the promo. Kerry tells the commentary team that the titles aren’t going anywhere.

Violent J makes his way out to confront the Southern Six. J wants to understand that they are taking the night off. Kerry Morton is flipping out after I think someone hit him with trash. J tells them they are defending the tag titles right now. J insults Silas Mason and Alex Taylor and bans them both from ringside. J introduces their opponents as the Backseat Boys, JP and Tommy Grayson with Johnny Kashmere.

MAIN EVENT: JCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS SOUTHERN SIX (JAMES STORM & KERRY MORTON) VS. THE BACKSEAT BOYS (JP & TOMMY GRAYSON)
FINISH:
Kerry tries to hold the ropes to avoid a sunset flip, but the referee kicks his hands off and that allows JP to pin Kerry to win the match and titles!

Bob’s Take: It sure didn’t seem as if the crowd knew who the Backseat Boys were, and I don’t blame them for not being aware of the Graysons. Obviously, Kashmere was part of the Backseat Boys in the early 2000s on the indies with the late Trent Acid and were one of the best tag teams for the era on the indies. I do have to say that JP and Tommy look quite a bit like Acid and Kashmere. I think it is funny the Southern Six had a celebration for their title win and then proceeded to lose the titles to a relatively unknown tag team in the Lunacy Universe. The match isn’t anything much of note, but I can support the attempt to establish the Backseat Boys.
Match Rating: *1/2

Final Thoughts:
I’ll consider this a good show for Lunacy. The women’s match was very good and the Southern Six continue to be a bright spot on the show. I’m willing to give the Backseat Boys a chance to get over after a major title win.
