2.) The Patriot defeated Buddy Landel to win the GWF TV Championship
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Craig Johnson and Scott Hudson host the show promoting the finals of the GWF Television Tournament taking place today. The Patriot squares off against Chris Walker with the winner then facing Buddy Landel in the finals.
2.) Craig Johnson interviews Makhan Singh. Singh calls Johnson dumb, nosey and ugly. Singh thinks that Johnson needs a makeover like he did. Singh doesn’t like the fans and doesn’t want to be near them. Singh says the boss can tell him what to do and he’ll be getting a lot of money to make the American’s suffer.
3.) Craig Johnson and Scott Hudson host the News Center promoting the finals of the GWF TV Title tournament. Hudson promotes the GWF as being truly a global championship. Johnson mentions there will be a Light Heavyweight Championship, Tag Team Championship, and a North American Heavyweight Championship. So, there will be three more tournaments.
4.) Boni Blackstone chats with a fan named Bob Hazlewood. Bob talks about Stan Lane and Jim Cornette. Bob thinks Cornette is the reason Lane is successful.
5.) Patriot backs Walker into a corner, but backs off cleanly. Walker backs Patriot against the ropes, but backs off cleanly. Walker arm drags Patriot and they have a standoff. Patriot hip tosses Walker, but doesn’t followup. Walker puts a headlock on Patriot, but Patriot counters with a top wrist lock and takes Walker down to the mat. Walker hip tosses Patriot and stomps Landell’s hand on the apron as Landell has remained at ringside for the match. Patriot puts a hammerlock on Walker, but they counter each other. Patriot takes Walker on the mat with a hammerlock and gets a two count with a rollup. Patriot arm drags Walker, but Walker rolls through and keeps arm control. Patriot gets a two count on Walker with an arm bar. Patriot puts a hammerlock on Walker, but Walker counters with an arm drag and keeps an arm bar on Patriot. Patriot scoop slams Walker, but Walker nearly wins with an inside cradle. Patriot hip tosses Walker, but doesn’t followup quickly. Patriot backs Walker into a corner and delivers a few strikes. Patriot misses a splash in the corner hitting his corner on the top turnbuckle. Walker strikes Patriot over the shoulder and yanks down on Patriot’s arm. Walker keeps control with a wrist lock and Patriot drops to his knee. Patriot forearms Walker a few times and delivers a scoop slam. Patriot scoop slams Walker again and shoulder blocks Walker. Patriot scoop slams Walker and heads to the top rope. Patriot misses a flying shoulder block attempt. Walker goes to the top, but is shoved off by Landell. Patriot covers Walker and wins the match. (*. The finish doesn’t bug me as Landell is a bastard heel trying to find any kind of advantage and it could setup a proper feud between Landell and Walker.)
6.) Landell quickly enters the ring and attacks Patriot focusing his attack on the left shoulder of Patriot as the show goes to commercial.
7.) Joe Pedicino interviews The Patriot. Patriot has decided to keep his identity a secret and repeats about how he represents everywhere in America. Pedicino promotes the Patriot Missile finisher and Patriot says his missile is about taking out the opponent whenever possible.
8.) Boni Blackstone interviews Jim Cornette and Stan Lane. Cornette says they don’t care about what a stupid fan has to ask. Blackstone asks Lane if Lane is always going to be managed by Cornette. Lane asks Blackstone why he wouldn’t be because Cornette led him to the top as a tag team wrestler. Lane believes Cornette will lead him to the top in the singles ranks.
9.) Patriot misses a splash in the corner and Landell works over Patriot’s shoulder on the mat. Landell chops Patriot against the ropes followed by a strike to the midsection. Landell rams Patriot into the corner. Landell eye rakes Patriot to keep control of the match. Landell nails Patriot with a short arm clothesline and taunts the crowd. Landell delivers a knee drop and keeps arm control on the mat. Landell eye rakes Patriot and continues to taunt fans. Landell strikes Patriot in the corner with several strikes. Landell pummels Patriot in the corner some more and stomps Patriot in the corner. Landell stands on Patriot’s chest in the corner. Patriot fights back with chops, but Landell keeps control with a stomp to the face. Landell keeps Patriot on the mat with an arm bar and puts a modified chicken wing on Patriot. Landell knee lifts Patriot and gets a two count following an elbow drop. Landell locks in the figure four leg lock using the ropes for extra leverage, but Patriot refuses to stay down. The referee catches Landell using the ropes for leverage and forces a rope break. Landell stomps Patriot on the mat. Landell back rakes Patriot and chokes Patriot in the corner. Patriot powers up and Landell begs off. Patriot pummels Landell and delivers and elbow strike. Patriot clotheslines Landell for a two count. Patriot misses an elbow drop coming off the ropes. Landell covers Patriot, but the referee sees Landell using the ropes. The referee shoves Landell. Patriot sneaks up from behind and rolls Landell up to win the title! (*. I’m not sure if I expected Patriot to actually win the title as typically the babyface will chase for the title. But, Patriot is an enjoyable worker and I’m glad they went with the happy conclusion after a long tournament.)
10.) Craig Johnson interviews the new GWF TV Champion The Patriot. Patriot notes that Buddy Landell tried to take advantage of the situation, but Patriot credits the fan for helping him power through and become the champion. Patriot says you can’t groan and moan when the deck is stacked against you.
Final Thoughts:
I’m glad the GWF TV Title tournament is finally over with and Patriot is the champion. It will be interesting to see how GWF develops angles once the tournament aspect of the shows are over with.
