This is what caused the tournament to crown a new WCW World Champion.

At Halloween Havoc 1999, there was a controversial moment where WCW World Champion Sting retained the championship over Hulk Hogan in their anticipated rematch from Fall Brawl. Sadly, Hogan would simply lay down and take the fall allowing Sting to retain. The purpose? I couldn’t tell you. By the end of the night, Goldberg, who won the WCW United States Championship from Sid Vicious earlier in the show, was also the WCW World Champion after defeating Sting in the main event at Havoc.

So, Goldberg is the champion, the top baby face is finally the top champion for the second time in his career. What could go wrong? Well…. (more…)

The tide is beginning to turn on the Monday Night Wars, but WCW still is producing good pay per view numbers and there is still interest in the bouts presented. The following month we finally had the conclusion to the Sting vs. Hogan feud with Sting finally prevailing as the WCW World Heavyweight Champion and his feud with the New World Order continues on. This is the fourth installment of UnCensored which had the premise of there being no rules and anything goes throughout the night.

At the beginning of 2000 World Championship Wrestling face a lot of obstacles, and for the most part they weren’t able to overcome them. WCW World Champion Bret Hart suffered a career ending concussion at Starrcade against Goldberg, thus having to vacate the championship. Goldberg is out due to nearly losing his arm after suffering a gash when he punched a limo on Nitro. Bret was scheduled to defend against Sid Vicious on the show.

WCW United States Champion Jeff Jarrett suffered injuries on January 10th and thus couldn’t defend against Chris Benoit in a three stages of hell match. Instead, Billy Kidman would compete against three different opponents in the matches.

Despite the two major injuries, WCW tried the best they could to present Souled Out on January 16th from Cincinnati, Ohio. (more…)

Former WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Lenny Lane. Remember him?

Often times when people think about the WCW/WWE Cruiserweight Championship wrestlers such as Rey Mysterio Jr., Eddie Guerrero, Billy Kidman, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko Juventud Guerrera and Chavo Guerrero Jr. are likely to come to mind. Rightfully so as those guys continually put on incredible matches in the mid to late 1990s for World Championship Wrestling. The WCW Cruiserweight Championship became a championship match that fans were almost guaranteed a fantastic match.

Eventually, the repetitive championship switches started to annoy fans. How many times could we deal with seeing Rey Mysterio Jr. beating Juventud or Psychosis to win the championship before it was no longer interesting? WCW took notice and in the summer of 1999 they made a controversial decision. (more…)
