WCW Saturday Night 2/29/1992

Written by: Bob Colling

World Championship Wrestling presents Saturday Night
From: Milwaukee, WI

1. Greg Valentine & Terrence Taylor defeated WCW US Tag Team Champions Ron Simmons & Big Josh to win the titles.

Angle Developments/Notes:

1. With only one hour away from Superbrawl II, the show is primarily a last minute shill to get people to order the huge pay per view event. Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura are in a studio throughout the show promoting various feuds. I’ll just note now that a lot of video packages are aired to promote the feuds. So, that’s why this section and recap is rather short since there isn’t anything new going on.

2. I found it interesting that Ron Simmons and Big Josh didn’t come out with the championships. This match was obviously taped before this date since Taylor is wrestling Marcus Alexander Bagwell at Superbrawl II. Simmons used his size early on to get the advantage but was soon worked on by both challengers but tried his best to fight back. Josh is tagged in and cleans house as Simmons gets up and works on Taylor while Josh stomps away on Valentine. Josh hits a top rope sit down splash but the referee is distracted which allows Taylor to hit Josh with a forearm. Valentine covers Josh and picks up the win and the titles. Not a good match but at least the titles are off the odd ball tag team of Josh and Simmons.

Final Thoughts:

The only thing to comment on this week is the US Tag Title match since everything was just promotional videos hyping up the Superbrawl event.

It was a good decision to put the titles on Valentine and Taylor. Taylor needs something to get some heat and Valentine has just returned to the company so he can look like a threat to bigger babyfaces moving forward. I think we can expect a Taylor & Valentine vs. Bagwell & Zenk feud to occur in the coming weeks.

Overall, the show did a good job at promoting Superbrawl and helped make Taylor and Valentine look credible.

Thanks for reading.
