Extreme Championship Wrestling presents Hardcore TV
Date: 5/27/1998
From: Philadelphia, PA
Matches:
1.)Justin Credible defeated Jerry Lynn in a best two out three falls match
2.)ECW Television Champion Rob Van Dam & ECW World Tag Team Champion Lance Storm fought ECW World Tag Team Champion Chris Candido and Sabu to a no contest
Angle Developments/Notes
1. Joey Styles calls out ECW World Heavyweight Champion Shane Douglas for an interview. Of course, Douglas has the Triple Threat by his side. The fans appear to be cheering for Douglas, despite the fact he is a heel. Douglas recalls throwing the NWA World Championship down on the ground. He talks about stepping in the ring at Wrestlepalooza with all the injuries he has. Douglas is holding his tights that he made his legacy in. Here comes FTW World Champion Taz! Taz isn’t out there to fight but rather just shoot with Douglas. Taz gives his word that he won’t put his hands on anyone. Taz puts over Shane’s ability to work injured at the pay per view. Taz respects Douglas for that. Taz is wearing a Triple Threat shirt and is offering his help for Douglas to get 100% healthy! Taz says that Douglas needs his help to watch his back. Taz would watch Shane’s back. The catch being that once Shane is healthy enough, Taz gets a title shot against Douglas! Either they raise the three fingers together or Taz walks away and never offers his help again. Candido doesn’t seem to trust him. They put their arms up doing the pose and Taz has joined the Triple Threat! Candido shakes Taz’s hand but Bigelow doesn’t. Douglas shakes Taz’s hand as well, but Taz takes Douglas down and yanks on his injured arm! Taz swerved Douglas! Bigelow comes back in and they brawl until security breaks them up!
2. Considering both matches this week are from ECW Matter of Respect, a show I will be reviewing soon enough, I decided against recapping clipped versions of the matches. I will note that Sabu and Rob Van Dam appeared to get back on the same page and attacked the champions much to the delight of the crowd.
Final Thoughts:
I don’t mind the shows where they use footage from the VHS taped events. The segment with Taz grabbed my interest and they used two of the bigger matches from the VHS release. No harm with that.
Thanks for reading.
