Extreme Championship Wrestling presents Hardcore TV
Date: 2/6/2000
From: New Orleans, LA
Matches:
1.) Vic Grimes & Angel defeated New Jack & Balls Mahoney in a street fight
2.) Danny Doring & Roadkill defeated Kid Kash & Nova, and the Dupp Brothers in an elimination match
3.) ECW Television Champion Rob Van Dam defeated Masato Tanaka to retain the title
Angle Developments:
1. We open up the show with ECW World Champion Mike Awesome calling out ECW TV Champion Rob Van Dam, who answers the call out quickly. Sabu attacks RVD from behind on the entrance way! Awesome misses RVD and hits Sabu with a suicide dive over the top rope! RVD leaps off the top and takes them out with a somersault dive on the floor!
2. BREAKING NEWS: RVD has suffered a broken leg in Orlando, FL. YIKES.
3. Grimes and Angel attack New Jack before the bell rings. As usual, this will probably have a lot of weapon usage so the report will be short on this one. Balls Mahoney makes his way down to make the save for New Jack and cleans house on Da Baldies. Jack is fighting with Angel in the crowd. Mahoney and Grimes are in the crowd while Jack and Angel are back in the ring. Jack uses his chain to whip Angel on the groin. Grimes sets a table up on the floor with the hopes of using it. Mahoney is placed on the table and Grimes somersaults over the top to put Balls through the table! Grimes barely hits a somersault dive onto Jack who was sitting on a chair. Angel pins Jack after a top rope chair shot. (*1/4. A couple of decent spots from Grimes of all people, but these matches are mostly boring.) After the match, Mahoney takes both Baldies out with chair shots.
4. All six men g at it to kick off the three way tag match. Kash hits a springboard cross body to the floor onto everyone. Dupp Brothers hit a double slam on Nova but Roadkill hits them with a springboard clothesline. Hart Attack by Doring and Roadkill on Jack Dupp. Nova hits a tornado DDT but misses a frog splash. Everyone starts missing top rope spots. Kash literally rolls towards Roadkill so he can miss the move. That was just awful. Bo Dupp is pinned after Kash delivers an elbow drop to his groin to eliminate the Dupp’s. A third update on RVD’s injury. Doring sends Kash into the guard railing while Electra attacks Nova in the ring. Chris Chetti is in the ring and wants her to slap him. Chetti proceeds to scoop slam Electra instead. Doring hits the Bareback on Kash and Roadkill hits a top rope splash to get the win. (*. I’d be a lot more interested in a Roadkill/Doring vs Kash/Nova tag match.) After the match, Kash is bleeding badly from his mouth since his jaw is actually broken.
5. A slow start for RVD and Tanaka but Tanaka counters a hurricanrana with a power bomb to give the crowd something to cheer for. Van Dam counters a power bomb with a hurricanrana but plays to the fans instead of following up. Tanaka with a sit-out side slam. Tanaka sends RVD to the floor with a back suplex and a forearm off the apron. On the floor, Tanaka sends Van Dam into the crowd. Tanaka nails RVD with a steel chair. Tanaka gets a table and slides it into the ring. A twisting slam out of the corner by Tanaka for a near fall. Tanaka sets up a table and crotches RVD on the top turnbuckle. A sick top rope DDT through the table from the top rope by Tanaka! Tanaka goes for the cover but of course only gets a two count. Tanaka misses a top rope elbow drop. Van Dam kicks Tanaka into the corner and hits a top rope side kick to knock Tanaka off his feet. RVD continues with a cartwheel moonsault before getting a chair and hitting the rolling thunder! Van Dam kicks a chair into Tanaka’s face for a near fall. Tanaka isn’t hurt and proceeds to plant Van Dam with a DDT onto the chair. Tanaka nearly wins with the roaring elbow. RVD with a northern lights suplex onto a few chairs for a two count. Van Dam continues with a step over heel kick. Tanaka avoids a kick to deliver a vicious chair shot but only gets a near fall. Tanaka with a scoop slam turned into an ace crusher for a near fall! Van Dam stops Tanaka on the top rope but gets punched off by Tanaka. Masato hits the Diamond Dust but only gets a near fall! RVD kicks the chair into Tanaka’s face and heads to the top rope. RVD hits the Five Star Frog Splash and that gets the three count. (***. A good match here that the fans actually seemed to care about. Tanaka had some really good moves in here and Van Dam worked well with him. A much needed good in the early stages of the new year on Hardcore TV.)
Final Thoughts:
We were reminded several times that RVD had gotten hurt and that’s a huge blow to the company. The feud between RVD and Mike Awesome would have been huge. A decent show this week with a good main event match taking place.
Thanks for reading.
