Free Pro Wrestling #1: Kenny King vs. John Morrison

Awhile back I wrote a few reviews for a website called Free Pro Wrestling. The website is ran by TJ Hawke, who is a reviewer, just like myself, on 411Mania. His website is full of legally uploaded matches from national promotions along with independent wrestling companies. So, you’re likely to not have to worry about the matches being deleted.

The first match I’m going to take a look at in this return to reviewing the free matches saw two former Tough Enough contestants wrestle in Las Vegas.

Current TNA star and member of the BDC, Kenny King competed in singles action against John Hennigan, better known as John Morrison from his tenure in the WWE. The match was taped in the summer of 2013 and is roughly twenty minutes. This is my first time viewing it, so lets see how this one goes.

By the way, former WCW wrestler Disco Inferno is on commentary and appears to be a regular wrestler for the company.

Match: John Morrison vs. Kenny King
Promotion: Future Stars of Wrestling
Show: When Stars Collide
Date: 7/13/2013
From: Mesquite, Nevada

Apparently, this is the first time these two have ever wrestled. Disco Inferno is grilling the booker saying that this was an awful match to book, and I have no idea why he would want to do that.

Alright, we are three minutes into the match and the most that has happened is a shoulder block and a lot of stalling. They attempt arm drags and both go for a dropkick but neither man can get an advantage. These announcers are completely announcing this as a shoot and ignoring kayfabe. John delivers a few punches in the corner but King elbows his friend in the corner. Morrison avoids King in the corner and delivers a kick. John hits his breakdance leg drop but Kenny kicks out at two. Morrison flapjacks King and delivers an awful looking shining wizard for a two count. King delivers a jaw breaker and drops Morrison throat first across the top rope. King gets another two count following a spinning heel kick. King rolls Morrison up out of the corner for a near fall and locks in a half Boston Crab, but Morrison gets to the bottom rope.

King focuses his offense on John’s left knee. King almost chokes John out but Morrison fights back and puts a sleeper on Kenny. They both go down following a double clothesline. John follows up with a spinning heel kick and hits a standing moonsault for a near fall. King nearly steals a win with a rollup. Morrison hits a springboard kick to the face but Kenny kicks out at two. King avoids a neck breaker and hits an atomic drop followed by a kick to the back and a spine buster for a near fall. King counters a kick attempt with a leg trapped overhead suplex for a near fall. King puts Morrison on the top rope but John fights back with right hands. King misses a kick and lands on the canvas to allow Morrison to hit the Starship Pain for the win.

Match Rating: *3/4

That was a bad match between two of the successes that came from Tough Enough. It started off really slow and there were plenty of awkward moments throughout the match. The finish looked weird when King missed the kick and clearly put himself in position to take the finisher. It went over fifteen minutes but it felt like double the time to me. Plus, the announcers were pretty bad on the match with Inferno clearly having no idea who both men were and crapping on the reasoning to book the match to begin with which can take someone out of the match.

Feel free to leave your thoughts on the match below!

Thanks for reading.
