World Championship Wrestling presents Saturday Night
Date: 5/10/1997
From: N/A

Matches:
1.) Chris Jericho defeated La Parka
2.) Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Billy Kidman
3.) Chris Benoit defeated Big Al
4.) Jeff Jarrett defeated Mark Starr
5.) Meng defeated Roadblock
6.) Scotty Riggs defeated Sgt. Craig Pittman

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Parka runs the ropes and shoulder blocks Jericho, but neither man goes down. Parka dropkicks Jericho in midair to counter a twisting crossbody attempt. Jericho misses another crossbody and flies through the ropes to the floor. Parka takes Jericho out with a twisting dive to the floor. Parka heads to the top and barely hits a twisting crossbody for a two count. Parka is nearly rolled up out of the corner. Parka counters a hurricanrana with a powerbomb. Parka misses another twisting body block. Jericho hits a missile dropkick for the win. (*1/4. A really quick match, but it was rather sloppy especially with the several missed dives by Parka. The crowd felt like it was rather flat, too.)

2.) Kevin Sullivan wants to know why Jacqueline took Meng off Chris Benoit. Jacqueline defends herself and doesn’t want Kevin to put his finger in her face. Meng says that Nancy is still family to him despite what has happened. Jimmy Hart says nobody wanted to see Chris Benoit get terminated. Meng tells Sullivan that he’s going to listen to himself when he wrestles Benoit. Sullivan has had enough problems with women in his life.

3.) Mysterio takes Kidman down to the mat and keeps leg control for a few moments. Mysterio forearms Kidman but is caught on a springboard. Rey sends Kidman chest first into the corner, but misses a springboard leg drop attempt. Kidman hits a slingshot head scissors from the apron to send Mysterio to the floor. Kidman hits a slingshot crossbody to the floor to take Mysterio out. Mysterio kicks Kidman over the middle rope and hits a springboard leg drop over the middle rope for a two count. Kidman boots a charging Mysterio a few times followed by a flying clothesline for a near fall. Kidman drives Mysterio down with a slam but misses a springboard splash. Mysterio goes to the apron and hits a springboard hurricanrana for the win. (**. Not a bad showing between these two as it was enjoyable for an extended showcase for Rey. Kidman got a few moments to shine, but obviously Mysterio is getting the shine here. The crowd seems to be incredibly disinterested with the in-ring action.)

4.) Big Al is better known as being 911 in ECW. After his performance here against Chris Benoit, I’d have to think he wishes he’d stay in ECW being a chokeslam monster. Benoit won the match rather easily with the Crippler Crossface. After the match, Kevin Sullivan and Jacqueline run into the ring to attack Benoit and Nancy. Meng entered to nail Benoit with a kick from behind and locked in the Tongan death grip. A few wrestlers tried to help out Benoit, but they are all taken out by Meng. Sullivan prevents anyone from breaking the hold on Benoit. Nancy remains in the ring and is trying to talk to Meng to break the death grip. Meng does let go eventually.

Final Thoughts:
I liked the advancement on the Benoit/Sullivan feud this week. The layer of Meng caring about Nancy is intriguing to me. Kidman/Rey was a decent little match, but aside from that there wasn’t anything action wise that held my interest.
