We’re going to see more matches from the NWA 51st Anniversary Show.

Tim Dix is in the ring with Rick Michaels, Mark Phor Michaels and John Cheatham. Cheatham says that Ruckus doesn’t belong out here with the guys from the hood. John doesn’t like Tonya not being with Rick and says there will not be handcuffs involved in the feature match tonight. Rick chimes in and says that Behrens is kissing Bert Prentice butt in Nashville. Rick notes that his hands have never been in handcuffs and they never will be in handcuffs.

Opening Contest: NCW United States Champion Jesse Taylor vs. Colt Rivers in a non-title match: If Colt Rivers wins he’ll get a title shot in two weeks. Rivers backs Taylor into a corner and misses a wild strike attempt. Taylor tosses Rivers to the mat with an arm drag. Taylor controls Rivers with a wrist lock, but Rivers comes back with a forearm strike. Rivers controls Taylor with a wrist lock, but Taylor counters quickly and yanks Rivers down to the mat. Rivers arm drags Taylor to the mat and keeps arm control on the mat. Taylor hip tosses River coming off the ropes and follows up with a backdrop. Rivers bails to the floor to regroup. Rivers gets on the apron and drops Taylor throat first over the top rope. Rivers chokes Taylor over the top rope for a few moments. Rivers continues with work over Taylor with stomps in the corner. Rivers sends Taylor into the corner back first and gets a two count. Rivers dumps Taylor through the ropes to the floor. Taylor rams Rivers face first onto the apron and hits a press slam in the ring causing Rivers to roll to the floor to regroup again. Rivers low blows Taylor on the floor and sends Taylor into the barricade face first. Rivers sends Taylor into the ring post face first, as well. Rivers grabs a steel chair and whacks Taylor over the head. Rivers rolls Taylor back into the ring and spikes Taylor with a DDT. Rivers heads to the top rope, but misses a leg drop. Taylor kicks Rivers and spikes Rivers with a piledriver, seemingly to taunt Romeo Bliss. Bliss ends up appearing on the apron and decks Taylor with brass knuckles. Rivers recovers and covers Taylor to win the match. (**1/4. I was surprised that this match got a lot of time, but I enjoyed it. Rivers entertains me and he has some decent moves to go along with his charisma. I’m considering Taylor one of the better in-ring workers that is a regular in Wildside. So, they took advantage of the time and this worked well. Romeo getting involved didn’t bother me either.)

For the first time they promote Fright Night ’99 taking place on October 30th. This is a supercard event for Wildside. I’m shocked they haven’t made note of this at all. Ruckus will battle K-Krush in a street fight. US Champion Jesse Taylor defends against Romeo Bliss, where the winner gets the title and Candy for thirty days. NCW Heavyweight Champion Patriot defends against Stone Mountain. In the main event, NCW Tag Team Champions Boogaloo Crew battle the NWA Georgia Tag Team Champions Sex Pistols in a steel cage match. Honestly, that is one hell of a card. There will be an additional five matches not yet signed. It’s noted the show will not be televised, but thankfully it is recorded.

The Sex Pistols confront Marcus Wayne regarding the cage match, which they are pissed about. Shane says they are not going to be suckered into being put in a steel cage match. Shane says life is short and too sweet to put their lives on the line inside a cage. Shane is tired of being treated like an animal. David chimes in and says that people chant their name and they can’t stand this either. David says their fans will not let this cage match happen.

Second Contest: Thunder vs. Mikey Richards: Thunder shoves Richards into the corner, but Richards complains of a hair pull that didn’t happen. Thunder shoves Richards to the mat again and Richards complains about a hair pull. Richards surprises Thunder with an arm drag and does a strut. Thunder tries for a slam, but Richards breaks free and tries for a few dropkicks, but Thunder swats Richards away. Thunder drops Richards with an elbow strike. Thunder puts Richards in the tree of woe and delivers a running knee strike. Thunder hits a sit out slam, but Richards kicks out at two. Richards trips Thunder and works over Thunder’s left knee. Thunder takes Richards down and delivers a few strikes on the mat. Thunder drives Richards to the mat with a delayed vertical suplex. Thunder hits a sit down powerbomb. Thunder grabs Richards for a chokeslam and drives Richards to the mat to win the mat. (1/2*. I was not a fan of Richards getting as much offense as he did. Thunder seems like the kind of guy who should be dominating matches in short order. He’s also the prototypical big guy that WWF would probably love.) After the match, Jeff G. Bailey confronts Thunder about turning on him, but he’s forgiven him. Bailey says if Thunder comes back with him, Stone Mountain and his elite black men then Thunder will be the NCW Heavyweight Champion in short time. Thunder declines the offer and Bailey is livid.

Third Contest: Abdullah The Butcher vs. Big Don Brody: This match took place at the NWA 51st Anniversary Show in Charlotte, NC. Butcher uses a belt to knock Brody to the mat and uses a fork on Brody’s forehead. Butcher whacks Brody over the back with chair shots. Butcher nails the referee with a fork, as well. A few people come running down from backstage and they get decked with fork shots. Ron Garvin comes out and attacks Butcher with success. It looks like the referee has thrown the match out as Garvin digs Butcher’s forehead with the fork. The match is officially a no contest. Garvin and Butcher brawl up the aisle to the backstage area. (DUD. I truly dislike Butcher matches with a passion.)

Footage of a bloody Butcher threatening backstage people is shown for a moment.

Before the next match., Rick Michaels says he’s not getting handcuffed and told his wife to stay out of his business. Marcus Wayne comes out to join the segment. Wayne is the commissioner in Wildside. Wayne reveals that if Rick doesn’t get handcuffed he’ll be suspended. Of course, Rick doesn’t like that and ends up being handcuffed to AJ Styles.

Fourth Contest: Tonya vs. Mark Phor Michaels: Tonya kicks Michaels while Styles yanks Rick to the floor. Tonya yanks Michaels down by his hair and Michaels regroups on the floor. Michaels puts a headlock on Tonya, but Tonya counters with a hammerlock. Tonya drop toe holds Michaels and delivers an elbow drop. Michaels attacks Tonya from behind and stomps Tonya on the mat several times. Michaels forearms Tonya on the mat. Michaels slams Tonya to the mat and leaps off the top rope missing a leg drop attempt. Tonya plants Michaels with a tornado DDT. Rick breaks free from the handcuffs, but Mark ends up hitting a DDT on Rick. Mark stomps Tonya in the corner and Tonya is handcuffed in the corner. The Boogaloo Crew run into the ring to make the save. (1/2*. For a match it wasn’t good. But, for being an angle it was fine.)

Main Event: Rick Michaels & Romeo Bliss vs. AJ Styles, Scottie Wrenn & Damien Steele: JC Dazz got hurt in the previous segment, apparently. Rick drives Styles down with a bulldog. Rick leaps off the middle rope, but misses an elbow drop. Bliss tags into the match and hits a delayed vertical suplex on Styles. Bliss hits a tilt a whirl powerslam on Styles. Bliss puts a chin lock on Styles and continues with strikes. Styles tries for a sunset flip, but Bliss kicks out at two. Bliss decks Styles with a clothesline. Bliss punches Styles and hits a side Russian leg sweep. Michaels delivers a knee drop for a near fall as the show goes to commercial. Mark chokes Steele over the middle rope for a few moments. Rick and Bliss have a falling out and Styles hits a top rope sunset flip to pin Rick! After the match, Bliss and Rick argue on the floor and proceed to brawl backstage to end the show.

Final Thoughts:
A good overall episode leading into Fright Night special taking place the next day. Fright Night looks to be a strong card and one I’m looking forward to checking out. I’m glad it was recorded and preserved throughout the years.
