JCW Lunacy
Date: 9/4/2024
From: Columbus, OH
Matt Cross starts the program cutting a promo about his history in the same venue they are in right now back in 2001. We see footage of Cross falling off a snapped rope, but he finished the match. Cross returns 24-years later to perform and impress. Cross wants the JCW Heavyweight Championship.
MATCH #1: CALEB KONLEY VS. FACADE
FINISH: Konley hit a Burning Hammer and picked up the win.
Bob’s Take: These two formed a team on episode one, but Konley turned on Facade prompting this match to start off. Facade displayed his aerial offense at the start, and he looked good. Konley plays the egotistical heel well, and he had effective offense when he was controlling the match. Having good heel persona and quality offense is always appreciated. Facade hit a nice moonsault to the floor towards the end of the contest. Konley picking up the clean victory is something I always like for heels to give him momentum. I thought this was a good match overall.
Match Rating: ***
Backstage, Geeves and former two-time JCW Heavyweight Champion Breyer Wellington cut a promo. Wellington says he’s in JCW to make it rain and he has money to burn in JCW. He’s in JCW to takeover.
MATCH #2: REDWOOD GIANTS (HURTFUL KURT & PAINFUL PAUL) VS. BREYER WELLINGTON & JAMES ELLSWORTH
NOTE: Eric Smalls manages the Redwood Giants and has made millions via crypto according to commentary. Also, Hurtful Kurt is Ben Bishop.
FINISH: Kurt pins Ellsworth after a double headbutt. After the match, Ellsworth is shoved by Geeves, but there’s nothing else.
Bob’s Take: I thought for a moment that the Redwood Giants were going to split after two miscommunication spots, and that would have been a bit much to have two teams split in the span of two weeks. There wasn’t much to this match and it felt like filler for the most part.
Match Rating: 1/2*
Earlier today, JCW Heavyweight Champion Willie Mack was interviewed. Mack says it feels good to be the champion of JCW. Mack says some greats have held the title including Terry Funk, Trent Acid, Sabu and Vampiro. Mack considers it a dream come true to be the champion.
MATCH #3: KONGO KONG VS. TYLER FOX
NOTE: Eric Smalls is managing Kongo Kong, too.
FINISH: Kong hits a spinning headbutt to the chest and pins Fox in less than fifteen seconds.
Bob’s Take: Kong could be a good monster heel in JCW.
Match Rating: NR
Shaggy’s Spotlight hosted by Shaggy 2 Dope focuses on the JCW Tag Team Champions Brothers of Funstruction. We see a highlight video highlighting on their offense from previous JCW appearances.
MAIN EVENT: JCW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION WILLIE MACK VS. MATT CROSS
FINISH: Mack counters a sunset flip attempt and kneels down to pin Cross and retain the title.
Bob’s Take: This feels like a big match to have on the second episode of Lunacy. For the most part, the action was a bit slower than I expected it to be. This was nowhere near being a classic title match. I was majorly disappointed by this encounter. The crowd didn’t seem to be overly pleased with what transpired either. They kind of hyped this up as a major showdown and it did not translate to me after how they went action wise here.
Match Rating: *1/2
Final Thoughts:
Konley and Facade stood out as the best match and two guys that may be worth keeping an eye on. Konley’s heel work stood out to me and Facade aerial offense was quite enjoyable, as well. The main event was a bit of downer, but I’d still consider this an average show at the very least.
Thanks for reading.
