Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Jim Ross is the host for Power Hour and promotes what we’ll be seeing on the program.
2.) Badd and DDP kickoff the six man tag match. They lockup but neither man has a clear advantage. DDP puts a headlock on Badd and delivers a shoulder block. Badd puts a headlock on DDP and shoulder blocks DDP into the corner to gain the advantage. DDP and Badd shove each other. Badd strikes DDP in the midsection and drives DDP face first to the mat. Badd plays to the crowd as DDP backs off. DDP knee lifts Badd against the ropes. Badd hip tosses DDP, but is met with a mule kick. DDP slams Badd and is also kicked away. Badd arm drags DDP to the mat and keeps arm control. Armstrong tags into the match and strikes DDP from the middle rope. Armstrong and DDP trade hammerlocks. DDP pulls Armstrong’s hair and tags out to Vegas. Armstrong puts a wrist lock on Vegas, but doesn’t get a submission. Armstrong ducks a clothesline and hits a crossbody for a two count. Armstrong kicks Vegas on the knee and keeps arm control. JYD tags into the match and keeps wrist control on Vegas. JYD headbutts Vegas on the arm. JYD comes off the ropes and is decked by Vegas with a clothesline. Hughes tags into the match, but JYD delivers a few headbutts on the mat. JYD snapmares Hughes and misses a falling headbutt. Hughes stomps JYD on the mat followed by an overhand strike to the back. JYD and Hughes trade strikes. They collide on stereo clothesline attempts. Armstrong tags into the match and dropkicks Vegas into the corner. Vegas boots Armstrong and drops Armstrong face first over the top turnbuckle for the clean win. (*1/2. I never in a million years thought the heels were going to win here. The action isn’t much and it’s a rather basic match. I’ll take a surprise win, though. An interesting turn of events here.)
3.) Jim Ross talks about Terry Gordy and Steve Williams being in action later tonight on WCW TV. They will be competing at the Clash of the Champions on June 22nd in the NWA Tag Team Championship tournament. Ross introduces footage of Steve Williams competing in 1988 NWA.
4.) Scotty Flamingo wins his enhancement match following a piledriver in dominating fashion.
5.) Terrence Taylor and Greg Valentine win their tag match in dominate fashion when Taylor came in and pinned Poston after Valentine had done most of the work. By the way, this match was taped when Taylor and Valentine were still the WCW United States Tag Team Champions, which Ross notes on commentary. They had lost the titles to the Freebirds at Wrestle War ’92.
6.) Ron Simmons wins his enhancement match following a spinebuster in short time.
7.) Austin shoves Chip into the corner, but doesn’t followup on the advantage. Austin works over Chip with strikes to gain the advantage. Chip arm drags Austin after coming off the ropes and keeps arm control. Austin pulls Chip down to the mat by his hair. Chip responds with a scoop slam for a two count. Chip dropkicks Austin for another two count. Chip takes Austin down with a headlock, but Austin quickly counters with a head scissors. Austin catches Chip with the Stun Gun for the win. (*. Short and to the point to put Austin over.)
8.) Missy Does The Mail hosted by Missy Hyatt is up next. Hyatt talks about Madusa being a liar about Ricky Steamboat wanting her. We see footage from Steamboat’s interview on the 5/16 WCW Worldwide episode. Hyatt notes that Steamboat and WCW United States Champion Rick Rude will be wrestling at Beach Blast. We see pre-tape comments from Madusa who claims that Steamboat wants to kiss and lust her. Madusa doesn’t do Fatal Attractions and has dealt with enough to have to deal with Steamboat. Madusa isn’t accepting Steamboat’s apology for slapping her.
9.) The Dustin Rhodes vs. Bobby Eaton match aired on the 5/16 WCW Worldwide program.
Final Thoughts:
Kind of a dull episode as there wasn’t a major development or anything as we’re heading into Beach Blast.
Thanks for reading.
