Outside, Shank is standing in the bushes. Shank is pissed about Timber interfering with his work. Shank says Timber isn’t suppose to get involved in stuff that he knows nothing about. Shank recalls Timber cutting trees down with his soft skin. Shank knows Timber is afraid. Shank says he’s in Timber’s backyard and sees his parents eating dinner and his grandma entered the driveway. Shank suggests he’s going to murder Timber’s grandma upon entering the house.
Opening Contest: JC Dazz vs. Gemini: Dazz misses a wild kick attempt towards Gemini to kickoff the match. Dazz clubs Gemini over the back a few times to gain the advantage. Dazz head scissors Gemini to the mat, but Gemini comes back by yanking Dazz to the mat from behind. Dazz strikes Gemini and delivers a clothesline in the corner. Gemini kicks Dazz followed by an arm drag and dropkicks Dazz into the corner. Gemini strikes Dazz in the corner and sits Dazz on the top turnbuckle. Gemini tries for a suplex, but Dazz tosses Gemini to the mat. Dazz tries for a dive, but is met with an arm drag in midair. Gemini slams Dazz and goes to the top rope hitting a splash for a two count. Gemini strikes Dazz coming off the ropes, but Dazz delivers a swinging neckbreaker. Gemini nails Dazz with a kick to the face. Gemini monkey flips Dazz across the ring. Gemini is stopped on the middle rope and Dazz hits a middle rope side Russian leg sweep. AJ Styles and Jeff G. Bailey come out to ringside. Eddie Golden attacks Dazz from behind. After the match, Styles and Golden beatdown Dazz. Jorge Estrada slides into the ring to make the save and backdrops Golden. Dazz drives Styles down with a sit out spinebuster. Estrada hip tosses Golden to the floor allowing Estrada and Dazz to stand tall. (*1/2. I hope that the NWA Elite aren’t going to be treated as if they the NWO in Wildside and impact a lot of TV matches. The action here wasn’t all that good, but Dazz continues to show potential of a breakout wrestler. The aftermath was more enjoyable than the actual bout.)
Second Contest: Wildside Heavyweight Champion Stone Mountain vs. Mic Tierney: Mountain shows Tierney away out of a lockup a couple of times. Tierney gets a headlock on Mountain, but Mountain collides with Tierney on a shoulder block. Tierney gets a two count following a side Russian leg sweep and strikes Mountain against the ropes. Tierney powerslams Mountain coming off the ropes for a near fall. Tierney keeps a chin lock on Mountain, but switches to an arm bar until Mountain gets in the ropes. Tierney punches Mountain in the corner several times. Mountain boots a charging Tierney followed by a a sit out slam as the show goes to commercial.
Mountain strikes Tierney into the ropes and drives Tierney down with a side slam. Mountain sends Tierney over the ropes to the floor. Mountain is distracted by Ron Studd and Scottie Wrenn attacks Mountain with a low blow. Wrenn hits a springboard twisting leg drop and attacks Mountain some more causing the referee to call for the bell. (1/2* That was not very good. The action was slow and plodding, which is expected between two large wrestlers. The aftermath didn’t do much for me either.)
Bill Behrens makes his way out to the ring for an interview. Bill Behrens talks about Jim Cornette being there last taping and he’s going to do his best to get Cornette back to the promotion. Behrens has bad news and says that New South will not be there this evening. Behrens says WCW needed their services. Behrens announces that the Cole Brothers will wrestle Bad Attitude in New South’s place. Behrens says it will be his last appearance in the ring next week. Behrens needs to take some time off and focus on working with the NWA. Behrens will introduce the Chief Operating Officer to takeover for him in the coming weeks. Behrens has banned Romeo Bliss from Wildside and he’s tired of censoring his promos.
Rick Michaels is talking to Steve Martin in an office. Michaels never thought AJ Styles would turn and betray them. Martin said he only trusted Styles and Michaels, but Styles stabbed him in the back. Martin tells Michaels that he can only trust him now. Martin wonders who the COO could be. Michaels lists five board members, but has no idea who Behrens could be bringing in. Michaels knows that Behrens doesn’t want to give him credit on TV. Martin has an announcement for television that’s going to settle things between NCW and NWA. Michaels is confuse as to what Martin is talking about.
Third Contest: Jesse Taylor & Jorge Estrada vs. Onyx & Wildside US Champion Terry Knight: Taylor and Onyx kickoff the tag match. Taylor keeps control with a side headlock, but Onyx sends Taylor into the ropes. Taylor hip tosses Onyx followed by a dropkick and hip tosses Knight sending both men to the floor. Taylor dives over the ropes onto Knight and Onyx! Estrada also hits a dive over the ropes to the floor. Taylor rolls Onyx into the ring, but is struck by Knight. Onyx strikes Taylor a few times against the ropes. Onyx hits a hurricanrana on Taylor for a two count. Onyx stomps Taylor on the mat a few times. Onyx strikes Taylor against the ropes. Taylor drop toe holds Onyx followed by an elbow drop for a two count. Taylor tags out to Estrada. Estrada keeps control by slamming Onyx. Estrada comes off the ropes with a springboard moonsault for a two count. Estrada kicks Onyx followed by strikes. Estrada backdrops Onyx coming off the ropes. Onyx regroups in the corner. Estrada stomps Onyx in the corner followed by a bulldog for a two count. Knight tags in and Estrada arm drags Knight several times. Estrada keeps arm control on the mat. Knight backs Estrada against the ropes and delivers a strike. Estrada hits a crossbody for a two count as the show goes to commercial. Onyx accidentally hits Knight with the championship and Taylor pins Knight with a belly to belly suplex for the win. (*. Here’s the thing, Taylor pinning the champion isn’t that big of a deal since Onyx cost Knight. So, the narrative that Taylor is a loser kind of still applies.)
Backstage, Wildside Heavyweight Champion Stone Mountain cuts a promo on Scottie Wrenn. Mountain feeds off of Wrenn having a cocky attitude. Mountain wants to hurt and destroy Wrenn. Mountain says he’s his worst nightmare.
Main Event: Kent Cole vs. David Young in a no disqualification match: The referee is knocked down by Kent and stomps Young. Rick Michaels is taken out on the floor and Young is met with a double back elbow strike. Young is met with a double suplex. Bill Behrens goes to ringside and hits the referee. Young hits a double clothesline on the Cole Twins. Michaels superkicks one of the twins. Young hits a spear and Michaels decks Behrens. Young covers and gets the three count to win the match. (NR. Hardly a match, but Bad Attitude winning was the obvious choice to challenge the Rock ’n’ Roll Express for when the time comes.)
In an empty venue, Bad Attitude cut a promo with David Young saying they are getting the tag titles back and the NCW banner will raise again. Michaels chimes in and says the war isn’t over. Michaels says they are getting the titles back from Morton and Gibson.
Scottie Wrenn cuts a promo about being the main event of most NCW shows. Wrenn says Stone Mountain has what he wants and what he’s going to get. Wrenn may not 6’10’’ and ripped to shreds, but he’s the smallest big man going today. Wrenn declares he’s one bad SOB.
Final Thoughts:
TV has been heavy on angle development rather than quality in-ring action. I’m kind of surprised that the NWA Elite has been losing momentum already. I kind of figured they’d run rampant over the company for a bit before they started to lose matches. I’d consider this a skippable week of TV.
Thanks for reading.
