Matches
1.) Big Bubba defeated Mark Starr
2.) Konnan defeated Super Calo
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Tony Schiavone reveals that they will not show the NWO takeover on Nitro because they don’t want to give NWO the satisfaction on the weekend shows. So, naturally they then show Hogan’s promo on a fallen Randy Savage.
2.) Bubba wastes no time decking Starr with a clothesline coming off the ropes. Bubba follows up with a splash in the corner and drops Starr to the mat. Starr fights back with a few strikes out of the corner. Starr crashes to the mat after being sent hard into the corner. Bubba decks Starr with a right hand strike. Bubba tosses Starr to the floor. Starr fires back with a right hand and a shoulder ram from the apron. Starr avoids a sit down splash and kicks Bubba to the floor. Bubba drops Starr with a right hand from the floor. Bubba slams Starr and goes to the middle rope, but Starr delivers a strike to the midsection. Bubba finishes Starr off with the side slam for the win. (1/2*. A basic match for Bubba, but at least it wasn’t dull.)
3.) It’s kind of funny that Dean Malenko is advertised to wrestle on literally every single show aside from this one, obviously.
4.) Konnan controls Calo with a wrist lock, but Calo breaks free with an arm drag. Calo controls Konnan on the mat, but Konnan hits an arm drag, as well. Konnan takes Calo down to the mat and puts a submission on Calo and wins the match in short fashion. I literally thought Calo reached the ropes, but apparently he didn’t. (NR. This is one of the most bizarre matches I’ve ever seen. I’m assuming Calo got hurt or something for the match to end so oddly.)
Final Thoughts:
Well, I got tricked into reviewing this show because I thought Konnan/Calo may have been a fun match and instead it went about a minute and likely ended due to injury. It’s also comical that Schiavone is promoting a Outsiders/Public Enemy title match as if that’s actually going to happen. The recap stuff on the show, that I didn’t cover, was good, but the feature wrestling stuff was not good.
Thanks for reading.
