NWA-TNA Xplosion 4/26/2003

Total Non-Stop Action presents Xplosion
Date:
4/26/2003
From: Nashville, TN

MATCH #1: ERIK WATTS VS. KENN PHOENIX
NOTE:
Kenn Phoenix would better be known as Ken Doane/Kenny in WWE as a member of the Spirit Squad a few years later.
FINISH: Watts wins following a flatliner.

Bob’s Take: Phoenix has a hairstyle similar to Chris Jericho in WCW circa 1998. It’s starting to feel like a bit where Watts is constantly on Xpolsion while also trying to be a main event guy. There wasn’t much to the match here and Phoenix didn’t get a moment to shine.
Match Rating: *

Jeremy Borash and Don West host the show and they promote the match between NWA World Champion Jeff Jarrett and Raven on April 30th.

MATCH #2: SONNY SIAKI & DAVID YOUNG VS. SHAWN PARKS & TRIK NASTY
FINISH:
Siaki and Young hit their finishers for a stereo pin to win the match.

Bob’s Take: Parks and Nasty actually get the advantage early on with Parks hitting a Blue Thunder Bomb on Young early on in the match. Young looked good hitting a springboard moonsault and shining wizard during the bout. I thought Siaki and Young looked good here against the enhancement guys. It’s kind of a bizarre team as they don’t have much in common, but they worked well here.
Match Rating: *1/2

MAIN EVENT: KONNAN VS. BOBBY ROODE
NOTE
: Yes, this is the same Bobby Roode that will be later part of Team Canada and be Glorious in WWE.
FINISH: Konnan wins with the Tequila Sunrise.

Bob’s Take: This match gets the clipped treatment for whatever reason, or at the very least there’s a random Thunder-like transition thrown into the match. There was nothing of substance here as Konnan dominated and Roode didn’t get a chance to shine.
Match Rating: 1/2*

Mike Tenay and Jeremy Borash discuss the happenings in TNA. Jarrett vs. Raven is a huge match and it takes place on April 30th.

Final Thoughts:
A rather forgettable episode of Xplosion. I like the enhancement matches have a bit more substance and I hope they shift back to a competitive nature.
