NWA-TNA Xplosion 5/24/2003

Total Non-Stop Action presents Xplosion
Date:
5/24/2003
From: Nashville, TN

Jeremy Borash and Mike Tenay discuss the gang warfare that has been transpiring in TNA over the past several weeks. Unlike last week, their microphones are properly working.

MATCH #1: LUCY VS. SIMPLY LUSCIOUS
NOTE:
Lucy is known better as Daffney of WCW fame.
FINISH: Luscious picks up the win following a Death Valley Driver.

Bob’s Take: What in the world is going on here?! Daffney just casually strutting out and wrestling a women’s match was not something I’d expect. Luscious is a regular on the East Coast. This was a pretty good women’s match, which I think is impressive since the company doesn’t have a women’s division and I can see it being tough to get over in front of the Nashville crowd as a result.
Match Rating: **

MATCH #2: ROB ECKOS VS. JOSH DANIELS
FINISH:
Daniels blocks a superkick and ends up winning with a rollup.

Bob’s Take: Neither one of these guys have competed in TNA, but here they are getting a shot on TV. I like the idea of showcasing talent in this manner. Daniels is a pure wrestler and Eckos is more of an entertainer and loudmouth heel, and it makes for a good dynamic. They had some good back and forth action and they didn’t fill the time with rest holds. They made good use of their time to showcase what they can offer. One of the better Xplosion matches and despite the crowd not knowing who they are it still came across fairly well.
Match Rating: ***

MAIN EVENT: ERIK WATTS VS. STEEL
FINISH:
Watts wins following a flatliner.

Bob’s Take: Watts is for sure over a babyface and they are referencing him as Mr. Xplosion, which is something I could feel was going to be a thing when he was appearing on a regular basis when feuding with Jarrett. This may have gone on a little longer than it needed to, but Watts has been showing some great charisma and the crowd enjoys him at this point. So, kudos to him for getting over.
Match Rating: *

Final Thoughts:
A good episode this week as I like that there was a women’s match, a showcase between unknown wrestlers and then continuing the angle with Watts being a regular on Xplosion. It was a breeze to get through this week.
