Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Jim Ross hosts the Main Event and says Michael Hayes will not be there since he’s at the Omni where Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton will be battling the WCW Tag Team Champions Steve Williams and Terry Gordy. Today, we have a big six man tag main event. Shane Douglas will be making his WCW Main Event debut, as well.
2.) Flamingo drop toe holds Bagwell and keeps arm control with a wrist lock. Bagwell forearms Flamingo and gets wrist control. Flamingo backs Bagwell into a corner and delivers a shoulder ram. Flamingo hip tosses Bagwell out of the corner, but misses a dropkick. Bagwell puts a headlock on Flamingo, but Flamingo counters with a top wrist lock and yanks Bagwell down to the mat by his hair to get headlock control. Flamingo shoulder blocks Bagwell and is met with a hip toss and a dropkick. Bagwell continues with a headlock on the mat. Flamingo counters with a head scissors on the mat, but the referee forces a break. Bagwell regains control with a headlock. Flamingo tries to use the tights for leverage, but fails to do so. Flamingo keeps a front face lock on Bagwell, but Bagwell backdrops Flamingo. Flamingo throws Bagwell through the ropes to the floor. Flamingo knocks Bagwell off the apron and delivers a knee lift to Bagwell’s back. Flamingo clubs Bagwell over the chest and snapmares Bagwell into the ring. Flamingo snapmares Bagwell again and delivers an elbow drop for a two count before pummeling Bagwell with right hands. Flamingo chokes Bagwell on the mat out of frustration. Flamingo yanks Bagwell down to the mat and leaps off the middle rope, but misses an elbow drop. Bagwell shoulder rams Flamingo a few times. Bagwell suplexs Flamingo for a two count as one minute remains in the time limit. Bagwell knee lifts Flamingo for a two count. Bagwell strikes Flamingo in the corner, but is met with a boot. Bagwell avoids Flamingo and gets a rollup out of the corner for a two count. Bagwell inside cradles Flamingo for a two count and the time limit expires. (**. I hate when they announce how much time is left in the match because it completely takes the viewer out as it’s obvious there’s going to be a draw. I understand doing it because then there’s a level of drama with the fans knowing there’s only so much time left. The match okay, but they didn’t do anything all that interesting to fill the time.)
3.) Shane Douglas won his enhancement match following a belly to belly suplex.
4.) Missy Hyatt plugs her hotline to talk about why Michael Hayes isn’t on Main Event and why WCW World Champion Ron Simmons friends and suggesting he will lose the title before or at Halloween Havoc.
5.) Jim Ross hosts Halloween Havoc Control Center. Ross runs down the card that has been announced to this point. It’s the same control center we’ve seen before.
6.) WCW World Champion Ron Simmons won his enhancement match following a powerslam.
7.) Cactus Jack and Barry Windham kickoff the main event. Windham shoulder blocks Cactus and delivers a dropkick to send Cactus into the corner. Rhodes tags into the match and strikes Cactus in the ribs before sending Cactus into the corner shoulder first and keeps wrist control. Cactus breaks free and knee lifts Rhodes followed by a forearm strike. Roberts tags into the match and strikes Rhodes over the shoulder. Rhodes ducks a strike and decks Roberts a few times. Roberts knee lifts Rhodes and gains hammerlock control, but is knocked to the mat. Rhodes elbow drops Roberts on the left arm. Rhodes keeps arm control, but tags in Koloff. Koloff clubs Roberts over the left arm several times. Roberts knee lifts Kolof and tags in Barbarian. Koloff keeps arm control and shoulder blocks Barbarian, but Barbarian doesn’t budge a few times. Koloff decides to hit a dropkick to knock Barbarian off his feet. Koloff taunts Barbarian by flexing. Barbarian puts a top wrist lock on Koloff and keeps control for a moment.
Koloff tries to break free, but Barbarian tags in Cactus to keep control with strikes. Koloff shoulder rams Cactus into the corner, but Cactus puts a front face lock on Koloff. Koloff breaks free, but Cactus goes to the ropes quickly. Windham enters and strikes Cactus, but misses a dropkick as Cactus held onto the ropes. Roberts tags in and jabs Windham several times. Roberts decks Windham to the mat, but Windham works over Roberts in the corner until Roberts delivers a knee lift. Windham boots a charging Roberts to the mat. Windham elbow drops Roberts and tags in Rhodes. Roberts is met with a double dropkick for a two count. Barbarian tags into the match as Roberts slides to the floor. Rhodes keeps a headlock on Barbarian, but Barbarian hits a back suplex. Barbarian headbutts Rhodes into the ropes. Barbarian chokes Rhodes over the middle rope. Robert cheap shots Rhodes on the apron as the referee is distracted. Cactus enters the match and strikes Rhodes several times and bites Rhodes forehead. Rhodes punches Cactus several times to get out of the corner, but Koloff gets the tag and hammers away on Cactus. Koloff shoulder blocks Cactus coming off the ropes. Roberts eye rakes Koloff and Cactus splashes Koloff over the middle rope. Roberts snapmares Koloff and keeps control with a headlock.
Barbarian tags back in and kicks Koloff followed by strikes against the ropes. Barbarian snapmares Koloff to the mat and keeps chin control. Cactus enters and stomps Koloff on the mat. Koloff kicks Cactus, but is clotheslined by Cactus from behind. Koloff strikes Cactus coming off the middle rope. Windham tags in and strikes Cactus and the heels in the corner. Windham backdrops Cactus coming off the ropes. Windham nails Cactus with a clothesline, but Roberts elbow drops Windham. Barbarian nails Windham with a big boot to save Cactus. Barbarian enters legally and pins Windham for the win. (**. Barbarian picking up the win is the right move as it gives him more creditability considering the star power involved in the match. Barbarian is growing on me. There wasn’t a gear shift during the bout, which was a little disappointing, but it was a fine main event.)
8.) There isn’t a Main Event next week, according to Jim Ross. However, Nikita Koloff battles Jake Roberts on Power Hour. Bill Watts will also have his final judgment on the top rope rule.
Final Thoughts:
An average episode of Main Event this week as we got a couple of decent feature matches. There wasn’t much angle progression, but the push for Barbarian has translated better than I thought it would.
Thanks for reading.
