NWA Wildside TV

Commissioner Al Getz is in the ring and says new Wildside Tag Team Champions will be crowned tonight. Getz explains that Total Destruction and the Cole Twins were disqualified and thus Wrenn has advanced to the finals. Getz talks about Wrenn losing a lot of blood and has been advised by the doctors to not continue in the tournament. However, Getz knows Wrenn very well and the only way Wrenn will not compete is if he’s carried out in a coffin. AJ Styles returns to the show and he’ll be in action against Lazz.
Backstage, Scottie Wrenn meets up with AJ Styles and is acting like he has bad memory. Wrenn needs AJ’s help tonight, but Styles tells Wrenn that he has heat with the office. Styles tells Wrenn he’s tight with Steve Martin and he can’t help Wrenn. Styles can’t help Wrenn because Wrenn doesn’t have abs.
MATCH #1: NWA ELITE (TERRY KNIGHT & ONYX) VS. AMERICAN MALES (ADAM JACOBS & SILKY BOOM BOOM)
FINISH: Late in the match, Knight distracts the referee to allow Jeff G. Bailey to hit Jacobs with his shoe and allows Onyx to win the match.
Bob’s Take: The match is joined in progress. Considering the angle with Wrenn, it’s very unlikely that the American Males would be put in that spot. The logical booking would be NWA Elite meeting Wrenn in the finals. Jacobs gets the hot tag and does a good job cleaning house on the NWA Elite. The finish felt like a 1980s finish, which is fine. NWA Elite are going to dominate TV for a while. Formula tag match, though.
Match Rating: *1/2
MATCH #2: MICHAEL YOUNGBLOOD VS. TIMBER
FINISH: Timber hits Youngblood with a barbed wire club from behind and over the head. Timber has been disqualified. After the match, Timber continued to beat Youngblood with the barbed wire club. Jeff G. Bailey is enjoying this as Youngblood has been busted open.
Bob’s Take: Timber attacks before the bell and works over Youngblood for a bit. Youngblood battles back with a slingshot senton and a dive to the floor. Timber caught Youngblood and tossed Youngblood into the ring post. Timber continued with a vertical suplex on the floor. Timber hit a moonsault off the top, but Youngblood worked over the left knee. Timber has displayed some fun offense throughout the match. The finish seems to be a sign that Timber is now a heel with the NWA Elite. Regardless, Timber looked better here than I’ve seen before.
Match Rating: **
Backstage, Timber cuts a promo on Wildside Heavyweight Champion Stone Mountain. Timber isn’t fazed by Mountain’s size and he’s going to chop Mountain to his size. Timber wants Mountain to fight him like a man. Timber finishes off saying “kiss my axe.”
MATCH #3: AJ STYLES VS. LAZZ
FINISH: Late in the match, the referee is knocked out by Lazz on accident, allowing Onyx to interfere. Styles hits a top rope splash for the win. After the match, Lazz is beaten down by the NWA Elite. American Males run into the ring to make the save.
Bob’s Take: Lazz is all about mind games and flirts with Styles early on to make him uncomfortable. Styles controls the match focusing on the left arm following a dropkick to the left elbow. Lazz sells fantastic and can be heard saying “AJ, you’re hurting me!” in a feminine tone. Lazz battled back with headbutts to the lower midsection that looked a bit more sexual than it truly was. Styles saves Bailey from Lazz stalking him with a dive over the ropes to the floor. Lazz almost wins with a rollup from behind, but Styles decks Lazz with a clothesline moments later. Lazz blocks a pin attempt by biting Styles on the groin, which is a great spot for his character. Lazz continues with a springboard head scissors out of the corner, but ends up accidentally spearing the referee. That allows the NWA Elite to storm the ring and Onyx plants Lazz with a DDT, whom he’s been feuding with in recent weeks. I thought the action was good here and Lazz especially was entertaining with his antics.
Match Rating: **1/2
Outside, Shank cuts a promo in the dark behind a fence. Shank is focusing on Wildside US Champion Terry Knight. Shank hopes Knight got his flowers. Shank promises that he’s coming for Knight. Shank could be anywhere at any point, but he’s coming for Knight and he’s not going to see it or know it.
MAIN EVENT: SCOTTIE WRENN VS. NWA ELITE (TERRY KNIGHT & ONYX) — VACANT WILDSIDE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
FINISH: Wrenn hits the springboard leg drop on Knight to win the match and become tag champions. Dazz had the rings of saturn on Onyx at the same time. Boogalu Crew has reunited!
Bob’s Take: Wrenn is sporting a wrap on his forehead for the open wound. Knight gains the advantage on Wrenn after Onyx struggled to get any momentum. Wrenn fought back with a springboard back elbow. Onyx displays his strength delivering a powerslam. Wrenn fights off the NWA Elite with a double clothesline as he’s bloodied. JC Dazz comes out to help Wrenn. Al Getz allows Dazz to compete. Dazz got the hot tag and cleans house with strikes. Wrenn and Dazz overcoming the NWA Elite is a great decision and I’m onboard with this reunion. They work so much better together than they do against each other. Good story, and quality action. The crowd seemed to like this, too.
Match Rating: **1/2
Backstage, Jeff G Bailey is pissed off about what happened tonight. Bailey knows that Al Getz had this setup because they were going to destroy Scottie Wrenn. Bailey promises Boogaloo Crew have signed their death warrant. Bailey declares the tag titles are theirs. They will get the tag titles by ending Wrenn and Dazz’s lives.
Backstage, Boogaloo Crew cut a promo saying they are enemies one moment, but then their blood brothers. Wrenn says they tricked them and now they are the champions and super cool.
Final Thoughts:
Good episode this week, and I’m glad the title tournament was kept to only two weeks of TV. Boogaloo Crew as the tag champs is the right call as the NWA Elite need at least a couple of foils and they will fit in nicely with Stone Mountain. This was a quick, and enjoyable hour program.
Thanks for reading.
