Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Backstage, Mean Gene interviews Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Anderson is scheduled to be wrestling Vader. Anderson knows that Vader is known to make rash decision since he’s from Colorado. Anderson says they are going to rundown Vader and attack him like a pack of wolves. Flair calls Vader a fat boy and asks who Vader thinks he is to want to wrestle them in a handicap match. Flair says that Anderson makes them bleed and he makes them sweat. They’ll see Vader at Clash of the Champions.
2.) Dungeon of Doom segment once again this week. Sullivan reveals a stone figure of a Giant figure. WCW World Champion Hulk Hogan crashes through a wall and asks where is he. Hogan notes that there are no fans here and puts his hand on some water screaming “ah, it’s not hot.” Hogan knows Sullivan and knows they are trying to kill Hulkamania. Hogan knows about the guys that have joined the Dungeon. Hogan promises to bury them. Sullivan tells Hogan that he is the man who created him. Sullivan says that Hogan’s demise is etched in stone. The stone figure breaks free and it’s the Giant! Giant chokes Hogan for a moment and says he’s the greatest giant to ever walk the face of the earth. Giant manically laughs to end the segment.
3.) Backstage, Mean Gene interviews Col. Robert Parker who is with Meng and Kurasawa. They will be wrestling Sting and Road Warrior Hawk at the Clash next Sunday. Parker says that Gene will learn about Kurasawa over time. Parker says that Hawk made a mistake by putting his hands on him. Parker promises it will be an awful day for Sting and Hawk. Gene tries to get a word from Kurasawa, but Parker chimes in and says that Sting and Hawk will have to be the best team in the world to beat them at the Clash.
4.) Ray and Wright kickoff the tag match. Wright declines a handshake and tags in Pillman. Booker also tags into the match. Booker works over Pillman with a few clubbing blows over the back and chokes Pillman in the corner. Pillman is met with a shoulder block and hip tosses Booker coming off the ropes. Pillman dropkicks Ray and punches Booker followed by a chop against the ropes. Booker accidentally kicks Ray off the apron and Pillman dropkicks Booker over the top to the floor! Booker eye rakes Pillman and continues with a strike to the back. Pillman drop toe holds Ray and keeps control with a hammerlock on the mat. Ray refuses to give in and gets to his feet. Booker tags in and misses a clothesline allowing Pillman to hit a crossbody for a two count. Wright tags in and back elbows Booker to the mat. Booker chop blocks Wright from behind. Wright’s right knee is heavily taped. Ray tags back into the match and stomps on Wright’s knee several times. Ray keeps a half Boston Crab on Wright, but doesn’t get a submission. Booker adds some extra leverage and illegally enters to keep the submission hold on Wright. Booker knee drops Wright on the bad knee and taunts the fans. Wright fights back with right hands and an uppercut. Wright is met with a chop to the face. Ray returns to the match and decks Wright with a right hand and stands on Wright’s throat. Ray stomps on Wright and chokes Wright some more. Ray goes back to a half Boston Crab, but Wright continues to fight the pain. Booker knee drops Pillman and delivers a standing forearm drop. Booker leaps off the middle rope missing a forearm drop and Pillman gets tagged in. Pillman cleans house and dropkicks Ray. Pillman backdrops Booker followed by a clothesline, but Ray makes the save. Pillman counters a suplex attempt and Sherri eye rakes Pillman allowing a pump kick by Ray. The referee calls for a disqualification. After the match, Wright pulls Pillman to the floor to save him from further attack. (*1/2. The tag match was interesting on paper and the end result was a little too underwhelming. The focus was on Wright’s injured knee and whenever they limit a high flyer like that, it usually makes the match suffer. So, this was a disappointing match.)
Final Thoughts:
The Hogan segment with the Dungeon of Doom was comical and memorable for all the wrong reasons. It’s a disappointing show since I was hoping the main event tag match was going to be a solid match and it just didn’t materialize.
