Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) The show starts off with footage from Anarchy Rulz where Jerry Lynn celebrated his win over Justin Credible to win the ECW World Championship.
2.) Backstage, ECW World Champion Jerry Lynn says he’s been waiting for this opportunity and he’s not going to blow it. Lynn is going to defend the title every time he’s in the ring. Lynn has gone from the star maker to the star. Justin Credible enters the scene and puts over Lynn for being the better man tonight. Lynn isn’t going to shake Credible’s hand. Credible reminds Lynn that he’s part of an elite group now. Credible promises Lynn he’ll take the belt back from Lynn. Lynn ends up shaking Credible’s hand. Francine enters from behind and low blows Lynn. Credible returns to attack Lynn. Credible may respect Lynn, but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to kick his ass. Credible declares the belt is his and walks off as Lynn is on the floor in pain.
3.) Paul Heyman narrates the history of the ECW World Championship.
4.) Swinger and Matthews start the match with Swinger kicking Matthews in the corner followed by right hands. Matthews ducks a clothesline and kicks Swinger. Matthews slides through Swinger’s legs and hits a head scissors. Diamond gets involved, but is taken over by a double snap suplex. York knocks Diamond to the mat again and Matthews delivers a leg drop. York and Matthews hit stereo suicide dives to the floor! York is sent into the railing by Diamond. Diamond kicks Matthews from the apron. Swinger drives Matthews down with a neckbreaker after Diamond was knocked to the floor. Diamond kicks Matthews in the ribs. Matthews is driven down to the mat by both men leading to a near fall by Swinger. Swinger takes Matthews over Wirth a snap suplex. Swinger stomps on Matthews several times. Diamond tags into the match and keeps control with right hands. Matthews bites free from an elevated reverse DDT. Swinger decks York away and stomps the pin by Matthews. Swinger returns to the match and works over Matthews with right hands in the corner. Swinger kicks Matthews, but is met with a reverse DDT. York cleans house after getting the tag. York superkicks Diamond and Swinger is driven down with the Future Shock. Matthews takes Diamond off the top with a hurricanrana and York connects with a top rope elbow drop. Swinger nails York with the ring bell and Diamond is put on top managing only a two count. Matthews is sent into the railing by Swinger. York elbows Diamond, but is planted with the Problem Solver for the clean win. (**. I like the clean win for Diamond and Swinger to give them some momentum. York and Matthews should be used in this way to give teams clean wins while having impressive outings with their aerial offense.)
5.) Backstage, Joel Gertner meets up with Tommy Dreamer, Danny Doring and Roadkill. Gertner says he has to wrestle Cyrus and is there for advice from Dreamer. Dreamer tells Gertner to go back and watch the tapes of wrestling and emulate the great moves. Gertner seeks some advice from Doring for sexual jokes, but Doring doesn’t think Gertner has what it takes. Gertner lastly asks for advice from Roadkill. Roadkill responds by simply saying chickens. Gertner takes that as great advice and is going to get live chickens. This inspired Gertner acting like Kamala at the PPV.
6.) Backstage, Lou E. Dangerously confronted Joel Gertner before his match and told Gernter that he’d lose at Anarchy Rulz. Gertner insults Lou saying he’s not asking for his help because he wants to win. Gertner would go to Lou if he wanted to win on the undercard. Lou attacked Gertner at the announcers table and Styles went after Lou.
7.) Joel Gertner talked to Dawn Marie backstage and sought her advice. Dawn tells Gertner that he has to be mean and vicious, which is something she likes. Gertner stares at Dawn’s breast the entire time as Dawn claims she’d be the women’s champion if ECW had one. Gertner tells Dawn that her advice was great and stumbles over his words. Gertner walks off and Marie says that Gertner is in big trouble.
8.) Kash and Angel kickoff the main event tag match. Angel controls Kash with a wrist lock and switches to a side headlock. Angel shoulder blocks Kash, but misses a clothesline. Kash springboards off the ropes to get a sunset flip for a two count. Kash arm drags Angel followed by a dropkick. Kash gets a rollup out of a body scissors for a two count. DeVito tags into the match and yells at the fans. DeVito wants a piece of RVD. DeVito tries for a knee lift, but RVD blocks it and hits a spin kick. DeVito gains control with a few strikes and ducks a spin kick. RVD nails DeVito with another spin kick. RVD scoop slams DeVito and comes off the ropes to hit a handspring splash for a near fall. Kash leaps off the top to clothesline Angel. Kash hits a standing hurricanrana on Angel. DeVito is met with an atomic drop by RVD and a sloppy dropkick by Kash. Kash takes the Baldies out with a dive to the floor. RVD hits a springboard dive off the ropes to the floor onto the Baldies as the show goes to commercial.
Kash is being double teamed by the Baldies, but doesn’t give in to a double Boston crab. Angel jabs Kash a few times to maintain the advantage. Angel tosses Kash with an exploder suplex. DeVito returns to the match and Kash is kicked to the mat. DeVito elbow drops Kash on the lower midsection. DeVito continues to work over Kash with strikes. Kash kicks DeVito and hits a double springboard crossbody for a two count. DeVito counters a body scissors and drops Kash face first to the mat for a two count. Angel decks RVD off the apron to prevent a tag. Kash tries for a clothesline, but is driven down by a full nelson slam. Angel works over Kash in the corner with a few jabs. Kash fights back with an eye rake and sends Angel into the corner, but runs into an elbow strike. DeVito hooks Kash for a suplex and hits a brainbuster for a two count. DeVito chops Kash in the corner. Kash boots DeVito in the corner and hits a top rope moonsault. Kash tags in RVD and RVD hammers away on Angel and DeVito. RVD sends Angel into the corner and delivers an atomic drop. RVD smashes DeVito with a chair shot. RVD dropkicks a chair into Angel’s face in the corner. RVD connects with a double under hook facebuster. RVD and Kash hit a back suplex/leg drop combo for a two count on DeVito. Kash chops Angel against the ropes a few times. Kash tries for a springboard, but is caught and DeVito hits a swinging side slam for a near fall. Kash and RVD hit standing moonsaults, but Angel makes the save. Angel kicks Kash to block a chair, but RVD kicks the chair into Angel’s face. Alfonso crotcehs DeVito on the top rope. Kash takes DeVito off the top with a hurricanrana and RVD hits a Five Star Frog Splash fo the win. (*1/2. I just really don’t like the Baldies in this spot. Kash and RVD are a really fun team, but they were wasted here. Kash and RVD could become a great duo in ECW as they just click really well as a team. I want to see more of them as a team, but against better opponents than the Baldies.)
Final Thoughts:
This week was a subpar episode for Hardcore TV. Lynn is the new champion and that’s fine by me. There just wasn’t much here to be excited about. RVD and Kash could be a great duo for a while and if Kash were to turn on RVD, I think that would lead to some great matches between the two. Hopefully next week is stronger and we get some focus towards November To Remember.
