The XWF Part Two

It’s time for part two of the three part series looking at the XWF, which was developed by Jimmy Hart. The feedback from part one has been rather interesting. Some people had hope for it and it never developed, and others (majority) felt that it wasn’t going to be successful even with television. I can see how the legends on the roster wouldn’t be beneficial, but the talent roster is quite impressive for a startup company and the young wrestlers would develop into great workers. (more…)

Xcitement Wrestling Federation, or better known simply as the XWF, was a wrestling company formed in late 2001 by Jimmy Hart, Greg Valentine and Brian Knobbs. The idea being that the company would challenge the WWF since both ECW and WCW had gone out of business earlier in the year. The had the financial backing of Kevin Harrington, who has been on Shark Tank as an investor for various projects. Their roster had plenty of big names to go along with younger names. The promotion would have been considered family friendly, which the WWE had not been for four years. (more…)

At the beginning of 2000 World Championship Wrestling face a lot of obstacles, and for the most part they weren’t able to overcome them. WCW World Champion Bret Hart suffered a career ending concussion at Starrcade against Goldberg, thus having to vacate the championship. Goldberg is out due to nearly losing his arm after suffering a gash when he punched a limo on Nitro. Bret was scheduled to defend against Sid Vicious on the show.

WCW United States Champion Jeff Jarrett suffered injuries on January 10th and thus couldn’t defend against Chris Benoit in a three stages of hell match. Instead, Billy Kidman would compete against three different opponents in the matches.

Despite the two major injuries, WCW tried the best they could to present Souled Out on January 16th from Cincinnati, Ohio. (more…)

They were once friends…

By the spring of 2000, World Championship Wrestling was in some serious danger and needed to create new stars. They seemingly stumbled upon on with Vampiro, who was getting some good babyface reaction. However, once Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff did a reboot for the company, Vampiro was turned heel and began a feud with the most popular WCW wrestler, Sting. (more…)
