ROH Boiling Point Predictions!

Ring of Honor returns to internet pay per view with Boiling Point on August 11th. Currently there are eight matches announced for the show in Rhode Island. Here is the card along with my predictions for the event.

Four Way Match:
Matt Taven vs. QT Marshall vs. Antonio Thomas vs. Vinny Marseglia

Well, I know half of the guys involved in the contest. The two guys I know are Taven and Thomas. The last I knew, Taven had been working recent ROH television tapings and some random events. Thomas, who is best known as a Heart Throb, is rather underrated. I’m going to have to look up the other two guys, since I really haven’t anything of theirs. So, going into this rather blindly, I’m picking Taven to win here. He has been working ROH shows in the past and it just seems like the likely choice to me.

Proving Ground Match:
ROH World Television Champion Adam Cole vs. Bob Evans

Yeah, Cole is working against Mike Bennett mouthpiece. That kind of has me scratching my head wondering why they would have a fairly new champion go up against such a weak choice of competition on his first IPPV since winning the gold. I’d understand if this were to lead to a Cole/Bennett feud, but this just doesn’t interest me at all. I’m going with Cole to win this and hopefully win this rather easily.

Special Challenge Match:
Roderick Strong vs. Mike Mondo

Mondo has won over the internet crowd and appears to becoming one of the more likeable guys in ROH. Roderick Strong, is, well, just floating around in ROH. It is rather likely and obvious that Strong is going to be splitting from Elgin, so that friction could play a part in this. Mondo could use a big win on internet pay per view, but I just don’t see that happening right now. Strong should be able to cheat his way to victory.

2 out of 3 Falls Grudge Match:
Jay Lethal vs. Tommaso Ciampa

These two have wrestled a lot over the past year or so. If you look back at my previous ROH prediction articles, I thought Ciampa was the guy to beat Lethal for the ROH Television Championship. Boy, was I wrong. Now, I’m just confused. Lethal has gotten a much needed ruthless edge to his character after Cornette suggested he needed it. Plus, Ciampa has gone insane. This just has the making for a draw or some kind of no contest after they both score a pin fall. I don’t see a clear cut winner between these two.

Michael Elgin vs. Charlie Haas
The eventual babyface turn for Elgin continues to inch closer and closer. Haas has been doing a good job in his current heel role and with Shelton Benjamin “suspended” or better known as “he is gone to Japan for the month, we need a excuse” Haas will be working singles for a little while. Elgin should go over here big time and cement his face turn by finally splitting up from Strong and Truth. I don’t think there is a need to drag it out much longer.

Mixed Tag Team Grudge Match:
Eddie Edwards & Sara Del Ray vs. Mike Bennett & Maria

While it may not be seen as that big of a demotion, Edwards has fallen down the card rather quickly. It seems like just a couple of months ago he was chasing after the ROH World Championship and now he is filling out the card in a mixed tag team match. I’ve liked the build up to the showdown between these two teams, though. Bennett and Maria have become a good heel couple and considering they are dating in real-life, that shouldn’t be shocking. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bennett in the WWE when his contract expires, whenever that happens. Speaking of the WWE, Del Ray is pretty much in the WWE as soon as a physical is passed. That’s giving me the feeling that she will job to Maria before exiting ROH. I obviously don’t think Maria would be booked to cleanly take out Del Ray, but I can see Maria getting a three count to inflate her ego.

Tag Team War:
The Briscoe Brothers vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Steve Corino

While I don’t believe it has been announced, I’m assuming this is a street fight. It should be an entertaining brawl as the top babyface tag team takes on Steen’s stooges. I feel like ROH needs to keep Steen’s group of guys strong and make them all look and feel like they are overtaking ROH. A loss for the Briscoe Brothers wouldn’t hurt them at all. They are obviously one of it not the top attraction that ROH has at the moment. So, I’m taking Corino and Jacobs to win a bloody, brutal and memorable brawl.

For the ROH World Championship:
(champion) Kevin Steen vs. CHIKARA Grand Champion, Eddie Kingston

I don’t know how most people feel about this feud, but I’m not interested in it. On the most recent ROH television show they had Kingston cut a promo about his life and how he is going to win the ROH World Championship to prove everyone wrong. It’s just a plain angle that doesn’t have me on the edge of seat. Kingston’s emotion on the promo fell flat to me and I wasn’t sold on the match. I think it would’ve been different had Kingston actually been in ROH, but obviously it’s been awhile since he last competed for the company on a regular basis. Besides, do you really think ROH would have a another promotion’s top guy go over their top guy? No way. Steen walks out as the champion.

It seems like a rather weak lineup for an internet pay per view, but who knows, maybe this will do better than I’m expecting. Feel free to share your predictions on the event and if you purchase it, I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for reading.
