Total Non-Stop Action presents Impact
Date:
4/1/2006
From: Orlando, FL

Matches:
1.)NWA-TNA World Tag Team Champions America’s Most Wanted defeated James Gang to retain the titles
2.)Samoa Joe defeated Sonjay Dutt, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin to become the number one contender for the NWA-TNA X-Division Championship

Angle Developments/Notes:
1. Team Canada is in the ring singing the Canadian national anthem but Team 3-D come out and attack Eric Young and Bobby Roode. Devon sends Young into the ring post while Bubba is hammering away on Roode in the crowd. Roode is sent into a chair that a fan was holding, too. There isn’t a referee so this is simply a brawl to kick off the show. Team 3-D hit a back suplex/neck breaker combo on Roode. Devon heads up top and hits the What’s Up on Young. They set up a table but Petey Williams and A-1 run out to make the save. So, the numbers game gets the best of Team 3-D since it’s five on one now. Young hits a moonsault and elbow drops Devon through a table! They drape the Canadian flag over Bubba which they did last week as well. That was a good way to start the show.

2. Don West mentions that Sting will be in the Impact Zone about six times.

3. Backstage, Jeff Jarrett is with his army of men who will compete in Lethal Lockdown against Sting’s team. It will be Jarrett, NWA-TNA World Tag Team Champions America’s Most Wanted and Scott Steiner. Jarrett assures us that he will meet Sting face to face later tonight.

4. Gail Kim dumps beer on Jackie Gayda, who has been a servant to the heels as of late. Harris worked over Kip early on in the title match but Kip quickly came back with arm drags and a splash in the corner. BG is worked over by the champs as Storm leaps over Harris to splash BG across the back. Gayda trips Harris as he runs the ropes and Kip enters to clean house. Gail slaps Jackie on the floor. BG is sent into the guard railing shoulder first. Kip plants Harris with the Fame-Asser. Storm tries to use a beer bottle on Kip but the referee is distracted when Konnan enters to nail Kip with a slapjack and Harris gets the pin. (**. A decent match that saw an obvious interference. I wouldn’t think the James Gang would need protection here, but I guess it adds more fuel to the feud between Konnan and the James Gang.)

5. A video highlighting Christian Cage’s wife being stalked by Father James Mitchell and Alex Shelley.

6. Abyss and Father James Mitchell come down to the ring to be interviewed by Jeremy Borash. They are going to show part two of the video involving Christian’s wife, I think. Mitchell is happy with putting fear into Cage’s family. Mitchell says that when Cage won the belt he left and made movies instead of defending the title against a guy like Abyss. The champ also left his wife vulnerable. They are doing whatever it takes for Abyss to get a championship match at Lockdown. Here is part two of the video shot by Alex Shelley. Alex walks up to the house where the garage door is opening. Christian comes out with his trash can and threatens Shelley until he is attacked by Abyss from behind! Abyss sends Cage into a pillar of his house. They go inside Cage’s house where Christian fights back with a water jug. Abyss tosses Cage into his pool and tries to drown him in the pool! Father James Mitchell tells him that’s enough since he can’t win the belt from a dead man! Mitchell asks Cage what is he prepared to do now. They leave his house. Mitchell says it will only get worse if Cage doesn’t give them what they want. Don West leaves the announce table out of disgust. That was a great segment.

7. Sabu returns to TNA on April 23rd at Lockdown. Sabu will be wrestling Samoa Joe at the event.

8. NWA-TNA X-Division Champion Christopher Daniels is on commentary for the four way match to crown a number one contender for his championship. Dutt and Shelley started the match with Dutt hitting a head scissors and splash. Shelley grabs Dutt’s by the nuts after he leaps off the middle rope. Joe tags into the match as does Sabin. Sabin drops Joe with a middle rope dropkick. Dutt hits a hurricanrana on Joe after flipping into the ring. Dutt nearly rolls Shelley up after Joe kicked Alex. Dutt dropkicks Alex on the knee and Sabin entered the match to kick Shelley a couple of times. Dutt hits a top rope dropkick on Shelley and Joe tags into the match. Dutt shoves Shelley to the floor. Joe drops Dutt with the Muscle Buster to win the match. (**1/2. A fine four way match with an obvious outcome with Joe winning. Considering the guy is undefeated this wasn’t any doubt, really.) After the match, Daniels and Joe have a brawl for a moment after Daniels slaps Joe! They are held apart by security. They will be wrestling on April 13th.

9. Backstage, Jeff Jarrett and his army of guys are heading to the ring to call out Sting.

10. Jarrett and his army come down to the ring and says they are sick and tired of waiting. They want a piece of Sting tonight. The lights go out and Rhino appears in the crowd with the James Gang. Ron Killings, Norman Smiley, Chase Stevens and Shark Boy are in the crowd as well. Killings raps. On the top of the arena we see AJ Styles, Jay Lethal, Chris Sabin and Sonjay Dutt saying Jarrett will have war. Sting appears in the ring and beats everyone up with a baseball bat! Sting fights off a bunch more heels and hits Jarrett with a bat. Eric Young bailed from the ring. The numbers get to Sting and he is mugged in the ring. Sting tries to fight back but everyone that was in the crowd enter the ring to make the save on Sting! The babyfaces stand tall in the ring to end the show.

Final Thoughts:
A show that saw two decent matches and a bunch of great angle advancement for TNA. Abyss/Cage had nice angle progression with Abyss looking like a real monster and a huge threat to the championship. The stuff between Daniels and Joe was nicely done as well. A nicely done episode of Impact.

Thanks for reading.
