World Wrestling Federation presents Heat
Date: 9/23/2001
From: Pittsburgh PA
Backstage, Steven Richards and Kronik are interviewed regarding their match with Undertaker and Kane. Richards says that nobody remembers that Undertaker ended the RTC, but he doesn’t forget. Richards wants revenge against the Undertaker just as much as Kronik wants to make a name for themselves. Richards believes they will become the new WCW Tag Team Champions.
It was announced on WWF Excess that Raven and Perry Saturn will square off in singles action.
Backstage, Tazz interviews ECW owner Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie says she’s feeling great for tonight and thinks it is going to be an unbelievable night for the Alliance. Stephanie asked for the time on the show to mock Rock by saying the WCW World Championship is coming back to the Alliance. Steph thinks since she can pin Rock then surely Shane and Booker can beat Rock tonight, too.
WWF Commissioner William Regal provides an update on Kurt Angle. Regal reveals that Kurt Angle has not been medically cleared to compete tonight. However, Regal is allowing Angle to compete and he’s taking full responsibility if anything happens to Angle. Tonight, it’s worth the risk for Angle to compete.
Backstage, WWF European Champion The Hurricane is interviewed by Lilian Garcia regarding the tag title match tonight. Hurricane cuts a promo on Mario Lemieux for not being super since he doesn’t have any superpowers. Hurricane calls Mario a mere mortal. Lance Storm steps into the scene and asks if he’s ready. They pump fists, but Storm has no comment.
MAIN EVENT: BILLY GUNN VS. TOMMY DREAMER
FINISH: Gunn pins Dreamer following the Fame-Asser.
Bob’s Take: Dreamer goes after Gunn as soon as the bell sounded with strikes. Gunn stops Dreamer by tossing Dreamer chest first onto the barricade from the apron. Gunn is selling his left knee a little bit and naturally Dreamer chop blocks the knee. Dreamer jams Gunn’s knee onto the mat. Dreamer almost wins following a sit out spinebuster. Dreamer missed a shoulder ram in the corner hitting the post leading to the finish. Dreamer is not good in the WWF. Nothing about him comes across well and is a prime example of someone who fit the ECW mold and that was all in a mainstream capacity.
Match Rating: *
Final Thoughts:
Kind of a lame pre-show for Unforgiven as we didn’t even get a major star cut a promo. The feature bout wasn’t very good either. I’d treat this as background noise before PPV.
