Matches:
1.) Robert Gibson defeated Barry Horowitz
2.) The Heavenly Bodies defeated The Fantastics to become the first ever SMW Tag Team Champions
3.) Doug Furnas defeated Joe Cazana
4.) The Dirty White Boy defeated Ben Jordan
5.) Buddy Landell defeated Danny Davis
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Dutch Mantel is wearing the tag titles and the heavyweight title to showoff the gold that the wrestlers are fighting for and will be crowned at Volunteer Slam on May 22nd.
2.) Jim Cornette and the Heavenly Bodies chat with Bob Caudle. Cornette says that he is sick and tired of hearing people say that his team shouldn’t be the champions. Cornette says the Fantastics are from Ohio and they are trash. Their father is a bum on the side of the road. Cornette is about to insult their mother when the Fantastics come over with Bob Armstrong quickly getting in-between them. Cornette basically calls his mother a ten dollar whore and the Fantastics issues a challenge for right now for the belts. Armstrong says they can do it but Smoky Mountain Wrestling is not responsible.
3.) Bobby works over Pritchard with a series of strikes in the corner to kick off the match. Jackie gets tagged in and dropkicks Pritchard and Lane is sent to the floor as well. Pritchard tries to reach the ropes and tags in Lane while in a STF. Pritchard quickly tags back in but is met with knee lift from Bobby for a two count. Tom boots Bobby in the corner and tags Lane back into the match. Lane delivers several shots in the corner and follows up with a clothesline. Bobby avoids an elbow drop and collides in the middle of the ring with Pritchard. Lane tags back in and sends Bobby over the top to the floor. Pritchard holds Bobby to allow Cornette deliver a shot with the tennis racket. Bobby is also sent into the ring post.
Lane drives Bobby face first into the canvas as we go to commercial. Bobby continues to be worked over by the Heavenly Bodies. Bobby hits a haw breaker but Lane enters and maintains the advantage. Bobby kicks Lane away but still can’t make the tag. Bobby avoids a Lane splash and here comes Jackie to clean house with scoop slams and dropkicks. Jackie elbows Lane down and nearly gets a three count. Jackie hits a pump handle slam on Lane but only gets a near fall. Jackie barely hits a top rope forearm shot for a two count. Jackie has a sleeper hold on Lane but the referee is distracted. Cornette hits Jackie with a tennis racket and Lane falls on top for the win. (**1/2. A match with some good action and crowd heat. It’s probably the first match that truly had the crowd invested into what was going on and you could feel hatred between the teams.) After the match, the Heavenly Bodies attack the Fantastics. Lane has a figure four on Jackie while Bobby is trapped in the ropes. Brian Lee, Dixie Dynamite and Robert Gibson run out to make the save.
4.) Bob Caudle is with Doug Furnas who is returning from Japan. Furnas is honored to compete in the South since he is from Tennessee. Furnas won his match with a standing hurricanrana. Take that, Scott Steiner!
5.) Bob Armstrong and Hector Guerrero are with Bob Caudle for an interview. Guerrero is back from injury and says that Armstrong is fighting to ban the piledriver. Hector wants his opportunity. Armstrong mentions that Jackie’s knee is double the size it should be. Armstrong assures that the piledriver will never be legal. Paul Orndorff comes over and tells Hector that if he isn’t man enough then he shouldn’t be in wrestling. Tim Horner comes over and suggests that Orndorff get in the ring with him, but that will happen at Volunteer Slam.
6.) Dirty White Boy returned to action after several weeks out of action.
7.) Dixie Dynamite is interviewed by Bob Caudle. Dixie says he is the wild card at the Volunteer Slam and says that DWB is going to pay for his sins at the event.
8.) After cheating to win with a handful of tights, Landell gets interviewed. Buddy is confident that he is going to rip of Brian Lee’s head and dump in his neck. Buddy says this is how he feeds his family and he will do whatever he needs to do in order to beat Brian Lee and become SMW Heavyweight Champion.
9.) Bobby Fulton is pissed and says he will wait for Jackie to be healthy and make sure the Heavenly Bodies pay for what happened tonight.
Final Thoughts:
All around a good episode this week from SMW as we got a good title match, the Orndorff/Guerrero issues continued and Buddy Landell being promoted as an actual threat to Brian Lee. Doug Furnas could be a good addition to the roster as well.
Thanks for reading.
