Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Backstage, Mean Gene interviews Rey Mysterio Jr. Rey will be wrestling Kevin Nash at Uncensored. Rey remembers when Nash tossed him into a trailer back in ’96. Gene hypes up some other big guys that Rey has defeated in recent weeks. Rey does whatever he has to do to get the bigger guys down for a three count. Rey warns Nash that he won’t hesitate to put Nash on his back again tomorrow night.
2.) Psychosis and Rey start the match with Psychosis hitting a clothesline and works over Rey in the corner. Psychosis dropkicks Rey into the corner and taunts the crowd. Psychosis misses a splash in the corner and Rey hits a nice hurricanrana. Rey hits a face buster and clotheslines Psychosis over the top to the floor. Juventud and Konnan enter the match with Juvi hitting a head scissors takedown but Konnan quickly comes back with a bulldog. Psychosis enters but Konnan delivers a clothesline and Rey hits a springboard Thez Press. Guerrera stops Rey with a springboard missile dropkick. Rey is double teamed by the heels for several moments. Juvi hits a leg drop from the top while Psychosis held Rey over his shoulder, which was a nice move. Rey stops Juvi with a tilt a whirl back breaker but can’t tag in Konnan. Psychosis misses a spear and hits the ring post. Rey nails Juvi with a spinning heel kick and here comes Konnan to hit a rolling clothesline on both heels. Rey dropkicks Juvi to the floor and Konnan hits a middle rope German suplex. Rey hits a springboard leg drop and nearly pins Psychosis. Rey somersaults over Konnan and sends Juvi to the floor with a hurricanrana. Konnan puts Psychosis down with a face buster and gets the submission with the Tequila Sunrise. (***. Konnan’s involvement was minimal and ideal as the other three put on a fun show and hit their popular moves. Kind of surprises me that these matches get booked on Saturday Night and not on Nitro when that program really needs better wrestling.)
3.) Backstage, Mean Gene interviews Chris Jericho. Jericho is wrestling Perry Saturn tomorrow night at Uncensored. Jericho apologizes for forcing Saturn to embarrass himself by wearing female clothing. Jericho thinks that people cheering for Saturn shows how messed up society truly is. Jericho wants Saturn to get out of the dress and back into his regular tights. Gene tells Jericho that Saturn is wearing lipstick. Jericho implores the fans to let Saturn get out of the dress. Jericho is trying to help Saturn get out of the dress.
4.) Meng and Morrus brawl on the floor to start the match. Meng didn’t wait for Hugh to get to the ring and rams him head first into the ring steps. They get into the ring where Meng continues to work over Hugh with chops and a splash. Morrus charges the corner and splashes Meng a couple of times but Meng is not hurt and drops Hugh with a kick. The Barbarian runs into the ring and attacks Meng to cause the DQ. The referee is sent to the floor as Hugh goes to the top and hits the No Laughing Matter on Meng! Meng is sent to the floor where Jimmy Hart tries to use a chair on Meng, but Meng gets up and puts the Tongan Death Grip on him! Meng is fighting both men off until Barbarian gets the ring steps and accidentally hits Hugh, who didn’t seem to get his hands up in time and took that right on his forehead. Meng and Barbarian brawl to the backstage area.
5.) Jericho attacks from behind to get the early advantage. Jericho delivers a clothesline in the corner and taunts the fans. Kidman fights back with a shoulder block and catapults Jericho before delivering a clothesline over the top to the floor. Kidman baseball slides Jericho into the guard railing and sends Jericho into the ring post and guard railing a couple of times. Back in the ring, Jericho gains control with some stomps. Jericho takes Kidman down with a vertical suplex and goes for his cocky pin, but doesn’t get even a near fall. Kidman sends Jericho chest first into the corner and delivers a leaping clothesline. Jericho drives Billy chest first down to the canvas. Jericho delivers a standing denton splash for a near fall. Jericho runs into a boot and Kidman hits a sit out spine buster! Kidman hammers away on Jericho with right hands but Jericho slams Kidman to the canvas looking for the Liontamer but Kidman nearly wins with a rollup. Kidman counters a power bomb with a face buster! Jericho tosses Billy away to avoid a bulldog and grabs his chain. Perry Saturn runs out and decks Jericho from the apron to cause a disqualification. After the match, Jericho gets beaten up by both Saturn and Kidman. Kidman gets elevated by Saturn to hit a top rope hurricanrana! Saturn chokes Jericho over the top rope with the chain! (**1/2. A solid match between these two with the expected cheap finish so close to the pay per view. Some good progression of the Jericho/Saturn feud as well.)
Final Thoughts:
Another solid outing this week on Saturday nigh as the undercard guys seem to be motivated lately to produce fun matches. Jericho/Saturn has been a focus and has added some heat to the dog collar match tomorrow night.
Thanks for reading.
