Date: 7/16/2005
From: Rahway, NJ
The show starts off with some fan interviews where they talk about the main event. The fans are supporting the Lethal family. Teddy Hart apparently won’t be on the show and a kid shares his disappointment. Another fan hopes that Raven will be wrestling Rhino tonight since Rhino is wrestling a mystery ECW wrestler.
Dark Match: Danny Demanto vs. Corvis Fear: Demanto slaps Fear, but Fear comes back with a slap of his own. Fear chops Demanto in the corner followed by a superkick. Fear comes off the bottom rope to hit an inverted cannonball. Demanto comes back with a standing senton splash. Demanto gets punched by Fear on the middle rope but Fear is dropped face first over the top turnbuckle. Demanto sends Fear to the floor with a lariat and grabs a steel chair. Demanto sits Fear on the chair and goes for a somersault dive, but Fear moves and Demanto takes out the chair. Fear tries for a cover, but Demanto kicks out. Demanto plants Fear with a sit down powerbomb. Demanto misses a frog splash off the top and Fear takes Demanto over with an elevated snapmare driver for the win. (**. Well, I wasn’t expecting that move to the be the finish. It came across like it was a weak finish to me, honestly. Demanto appeared to be the more entertaining of the two. I usually enjoy Demanto’s wrestling style and he was getting a good heel reaction throughout.)
Backstage, Neeno Capone and Eric Cooper cut a promo about their upcoming match with the Outcast Killaz. There is no way they will lay down and be their stepping stone. Eric Cooper says he keeps coming back for more after being in the ring with guys like Samoa Joe and B-Boy.
Backstage, Monsta Mack chats with the Outcast Killaz. They are done paying dues and they feel like they overpaid their dues. Tortuga says they are going to hurt their opponents until they cry.

Cooper plants Tortuga with a spine buster and Capone hits a standing shooting star. Capone gets a Death Valley Driver by Santiago. Tortuga delivers a double lung blower to Cooper and they hit the Sell Out (double muscle buster) for the win. (**. The crowd was mostly dead for this and there wasn’t any doubt as to who would win the match. Cooper and Capone are still inexperienced and it showed in this match. It wasn’t a bad match by any means and served its purpose to show that the Killaz are a team on the rise in JAPW.)
Backstage, Alicia warns Talia to not mess with her man Monsta Mack. Alicia finds out that Mack went into the locker room with Talia. Naturally, Alicia got pissed off by that and runs off to talk to Mack.

Talia hits the blockbluster off the top rope and pins Alicia. (1/2*. They aren’t very good. There’s no doubt that they are trying, but it was sloppy and just not good.)
Steve Corino and Ricky Landell make their way down to the ring to cut a promo. They have Rick Silver by their side, too. Silver says that the people don’t deserve to hear Corino talk. Silver demands the people shut up so that he can talk. Silver promotes the tag match taking place where Jay Lethal will be teaming with his father to take on Corino and Landell. Silver reveals that there will be a third person teaming with Corino and Landell. That person will be him. Silver dares Jay and his father to find a third person to wrestle them.

Dutt tries for a springboard 450 splash, but Ki got his knees up and dropkicks Dutt into the corner. Ki heads to the top rope managing to hit the double stomp and wins the match. (***. Well, they promoted the match as being an independent wrestling dream match. When I hear that, I always think the match will be a classic. It’s a good match, but not a classic by any means. I didn’t get the vibe that anyone bought into Dutt winning at any point and to some degree this was just a showcase for Ki. Obviously Dutt got a few moments to shine, but it came across as if Ki was the total focus of the match.)
Backstage, Sonjay Dutt cuts a promo saying that this isn’t the last time that we’ll see Dutt in JAPW.
Fourth Contest: JAPW Tag Team Champion Jack Evans vs. The Backseat Boys (Trent Acid & Johnny Kashmere) in a handicap match: Teddy Hart is not here due to some issues at the Canadian airport. Evans takes Kashmere over with a reverse hurricanrana. Evans slams Acid as Boy gets on the apron. Monsta Mack has left the commentary table. Mack shoves Evans off the top rope and decks Evans with a clothesline. Acid and Kashmere hit the T-Gimmick and they pin Evans to win the titles. Monsta Mack explains he did that because Evans and Hart didn’t care about the tag titles while Mack cares about the belts more than anyone. (*1/2. The match was okay and clearly an angle to setup something in the future. Teddy Hart not being there prevented this from being all that entertaining.) After the match, the Backseat Boys try to take out Evans, but the SAT come out and they try for the Spanish Fly, but Kashmere saves Acid by pulling him to the floor.

Kashmere is more subdue and serious compared to Acid here.

Archadia nearly wins with a rollup and avoids a knee strike. Archadia avoids a few knee strikes, but Boy is able to plant Archadia with a wheelbarrow driver for the win. (***. Well, Archadia seemed to have won over the crowd by the end of the match. There were a few moments when Archadia would try to do moves that he simply couldn’t do. I’m mostly referencing cartwheels and whatnot. The told a fine story with B-Boy not taking him seriously and it almost cost him. I enjoyed the match and it didn’t overstay its welcome on the show.)
Backstage, Archadia believes he has proven himself and showed what he can do. He assures us that he’s still coming for the championship. He will not stop until he gets to the top.
Backstage, Rhino makes his JAPW debut and he wrestles Balls Mahoney. He’s sicker than Mahoney and he will give Mahoney a match of his life. Rhino was originally supposed to wrestle the Sandman, but Sandman no-showed.
Sixth Contest: Rhino vs. Balls Mahoney: The fans chant for ECW as they embrace before the match starts. There is a new referee that apparently nobody knows. The fans are chanting “fuck McMahon” and Rhino encourages it. Mahoney can’t say anything because he has a tryout. The fans are chanting for Chris Candido, which appears to get Mahoney a little emotional. They trade a few punches with Mahoney jabbing Rhino several times to get the advantage. Rhino dumps Mahoney through the ropes to the floor. Rhino sends Mahoney back first into the guard railing. Rhino delivers a shoulder ram in the corner and stomps away on Mahoney. Rhino delivers a clothesline and controls with a chin lock. There are some fans crapping on the match. They both go down following a double clothesline spot. Mahoney drops Rhino with a few strikes. Mahoney hits the Nutcracker Suite on Rhino and the referee does the slow count, too. The referee shoves Mahoney into Rhino and Rhino wins with a rollup and the referee does a fast count. After the match, Mahoney sets up the referee for Rhino to hit the GORE. Mahoney destroys the referee with a chair shot. (*1/4. Yeah. So, that sucked. The finish made zero sense to me. The referee was crooked against both guys and then decides to align with Rhino at the end? Was the point of this to allow Rhino to GORE the referee? This was just bad all around to me.)
Main Event: JAPW Heavyweight Champion Jay Lethal, Charlie Haas & Mr. Lethal vs. Steve Corino, Ricky Landell & Rick Silver: Jay takes out Corino and Landell while Mr. Lethal tossed Silver to the floor. Jay takes Landell down with a vertical suplex and continues with several strikes in the corner. Lethal dropkicks a seated Landell. Corino gets tagged in and is dropped by Lethal several times. Lethal comes off the ropes to hit a crossbody for a rtwo count. Lethal fights out of the corner, but Corino sends Lethal into Landell to get control. Landell tags in and elbow drops Lethal after a drop toe hold by Corino. Corino dropkicks Lethal on the mat and taunts the crowd. Lethal is triple teamed in the corner by the heels for a few moments. Lethal low blows Corino and elbows Silver before tagging in his father. Mr. Lethal elbows Landell and Corino like he’s Dusty Rhodes! Mr. Lethal gets kicked by Corino as Landell and Lethal go to the floor. Corino face washes Mr. Lethal in the corner a few times and delivers a running face wash.
Lethal pulls Corino to the floor and Landell gets a few stomps in on Mr. Lethal. Mama Lethal comes out with a microphone and says that Corino is playing dirty and they need even this out. She brings out the third man and it is Charlie Haas! Haas cleans house with strikes as Lethal clotheslines Corino to the floor. Haas backdrops Landell followed by a splash. Haas tosses Landell overhead. Haas locks in the Haas of Pain to make Landell submit in the middle of the ring. After the match, Corino can’t believe that Haas is back and that his team lost. (*. It’s not an entertaining match, but it’s an entertaining moment to see Lethal wrestle alongside his father. That had to be a great moment for them. Charlie Haas return didn’t get a hug pop as depicted by commentary, but it’s great to see him back in JAPW.)
Haas gets on the microphone and says “Fuck Vince”. Haas says this starts a new era in JAPW. Haas says it’s a new era where he will kill motherfuckers. Haas clotheslines Lethal in the corner and tosses Lethal overhead. Haas says it’s not personal and considers this just business. Haas says seven years ago he ran the company with his brother Russ. Haas challenges Lethal to a title match on September 10th. Haas says Lethal will be his stepping stone back to the top. Haas locks in the Haas of Pain and Lethal is in serious pain.
Backstage, Charlie Haas is interviewed by Monsta Mack. Haas tells Mack that he kills motherfuckers and it all started seven years ago. Haas says that he came back to his roots because WWE didn’t think he could be a top draw. Haas says he will be a heavyweight champions here and in JAPW.
Backstage, Jay Lethal is laying down and says he asked for Charlie’s help because he knew how important JAPW is to him. Lethal thinks that love diminished when Haas went elsewhere. He’ll defend the title against Haas on September 10th.
Final Thoughts:
If you accept this show as being a B-level show, it’s a fine event. There’s a couple of solid matches, but the main draws were disappointments. But, considering there were two major no-shows (Sandman and Teddy Hart), JAPW deserves some credit for producing the show they pulled off here.
Thanks for reading.
