Matches:
1.) Public Enemy defeated Southern Posse
2.) Steven Regal defeated Villano IV
3.) Ultimo Dragon defeated Bill Payne
4.) Lex Luger defeated La Parka
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Regal starts off with wrist control on Villano, but Villano counters with a wrist lock of his own. Villano gets control on the mat and knee drops Regal. Regal delivers a few uppercuts to stagger Villano. Villano dropkicks Regal a couple of times and hits a middle rope clothesline for a two count. Villano chops Regal in the corner and knee strikes Regal in the corner followed by a bulldog for a two count. Villano spikes Regal with a DDT and locks in a standing figure four until Regal takes Villano down to the mat and tries for the STF, but Villano reaches the ropes. Regal keeps control with a neck vice, but Villano takes Regal down and locks in a figure four. Regal stops Villano with a few headbutts to the midsection followed by an uppercut. Regal shoulder blocks Villano, but gets tripped by Villano V from the floor. Villano V enters and chops Regal several times. Regal ducks under and gets a rollup on Villano V to win the match. (*1/2. That wasn’t too bad, but a little weird for Regal to overcome the odds and win the match. It seemed like something that would be more effective for a babyface to overcome. However, I guess it would make Regal more dislikable being able to defeat two men.)
2.) Parka works over Luger with strikes in the corner followed by a clothesline in the corner. Parka runs into a boot and Luger comes running out of the corner to hit a clothesline. Luger arm drags Parka followed by a scoop slam and plays to the crowd. Luger keeps control with a wrist lock. Luger shoulder rams Parka a few times followed by uppercuts to Parka’s arm. Ono trips Luger from the floor allowing Parka to clothesline Luger. Parka rams Luger face first into the turnbuckle to maintain the advantage. Parka drops Luger with a kick to the leg and nearly wins with an inside cradle. Parka has a rollup on Luger for another two count. Parka kicks Luger in the ribs and chokes Lex over the middle rope. Parka taunts Luger with some dancing and misses a splash in the corner. Luger backdrops Parka followed by a few clotheslines. Luger runs into a boot in the corner. Ono gives Parka a chair, but Luger gets the Torture Rack on Parka and wins the match by submission. (*1/2. I was not expecting Luger to give Parka nearly as much as he did here. So, that was a nice change of pace of the usual stuff. I liked the finish of Luger getting the Rack on Parka and avoiding the chair in the process.)
Final Thoughts:
I was most interested in seeing how Parka would do in there with Luger and was given a shockingly fun Regal/Villano match as well. So, this is an average show this week.
