Reliving A Feud #47: JT Dunn Vs. Davienne In Chaotic Wrestling ’21-’22

Chaotic Wrestling is an independent wrestling promotion running shows in Massachusetts for over twenty years. Many top names have stopped through Chaotic, or been regular competitors over the years. Chaotic has been a promotion that I’ve wanted to check out and luckily they’ve been adding matches to their YouTube and have a twitch channel streaming their shows.

Their YouTube channel is what brings me to this column. I will regularly search YouTube to find interesting matches to review (I have a long, long list). I came across Chaotic and I really didn’t think there would be full length matches that would catch my eye. I was wrong. Upon searching the channel, I came across a few matches between JT Dunn and Davienne.

Yes, it’s inter-gender wrestling and I know that recently there’s been some debate about whether or not men and women should wrestle each other. Personally, it doesn’t bother me. Wrestling is all about storytelling and if there are people out there that think women can’t beat a man, well, that’s just wrong thinking.

Admittedly, I am only familiar with JT Dunn leading into this. I have not watched the matches prior to writing any of these reviews. Since I’m only familiar with Dunn, who I think is very underrated, I’m sure there may be questions as to why I’d watch these matches. Frankly, the inter-gender aspect did get my interest. The matches are also not short in length and there’s history between the competitors. Thankfully, Chaotic kind of makes it easy to piece together the issues on their YouTube.

There are four matches in the feud that I’ll be covering. Their latest one taking place in April 2022 and the first singles encounter taking place in March 2021. I’d like to thank Keith Langston for his assistance on context and for his Chaotic expertise. Lets get into the feud.

Davienne and JT Dunn formed a tag team in the summer of 2019 and right before COVID shut everything down across the country, they won the Chaotic Tag Team Championships in February 2020. Their reign came to an end on January 28th, 2021 losing to the Maine State Posse. Issues were brewing between the two from two weeks earlier when Davienne didn’t like how JT went about retaining the titles against the Posse by delivering a low blow. JT didn’t apologize when Davienne confronted him backstage about his actions.

On the 11th episode of RELOADED, Chaotic’s Internet show, Dunn cut a promo saying that he was talked down to and claimed that Davienne was not on his level. Dunn was finished with carrying someone that wasn’t on his level. Dunn was setting himself free from dead weight. Thus, the feud basis would be Davienne looking to prove to Dunn, herself and everyone that she was on Dunn’s level and perhaps even better. That brings us to the first singles match.

After the match, Davienne proclaims she’ll be the next heavyweight champion.

Match #1 Rating & Thoughts: ***1/4. This was a good setup for the feud, though a little surprising to have Davienne win the first encounter. Dunn came across as not taking her seriously and being really casual with his approach, which ended up costing him. I’m thinking we’ll see a more focused and intense Dunn as the feud continues along. The victory should prove to fans that Davianne can hang with the top male talent in Chaotic as she did a great job in the match. Her selling of the leg was believable and the closing sequence was nicely done. As I said before, I think was designed to be a setup for things to come and was a good start to their feud.

Their next encounter in Chaotic wouldn’t be for almost three months. On April 15th, 2021, JT Dunn won a three way match to become the number one contender to the Chaotic Heavyweight Championship defeating Danny Miles and Davienne. Dunn took advantage of Davienne’s damage to Miles and hit her with an elbow strike to steal the opportunity. Dunn left a shirt in Davienne’s hand to seemingly offer her a spot in his group, The Unit. The following week, Dunn won the Chaotic Heavyweight Championship defeating Mike Verna. Davienne made it clear she was not going to join Dunn’s group. Davienne would get her shot at the championship on the June 10th edition of RELOADED.

Match #2 Rating & Thoughts: ****. That was fantastic. Going back to the first match, Davienne winning is probably the right call to give her believability to defeat Dunn. Knowing that she’s beaten him in the past made her near falls more compelling and I was more invested in the action. Dunn did a great job during the match as his mood and confidence was noticeably changing the more that Davienne was kicking out of his offense. There were a couple of moments where his cockiness turned into panic that he wouldn’t be able to put Davienne away. They are tied at one a piece and now a third match is needed to break that tie. I love the direction of the feud. I’m absolutely interested in another showdown.

Their third encounter would take place two months later at Chaotic Wrestling’s Summer Chaos event on August 27th, 2021.

After the match, Dunn drapes the championship over Davienne’s shoulder before leaving the ring.

Match #3 Rating & Thoughts: ****. A great moment and a great match. Davienne winning the title is one of the rare moments in wrestling where everyone in the crowd was behind her and wanted to see her win the title. The pure emotion on her face after the victory showed how much the title meant to her and little things like that put over the Chaotic Heavyweight Championship as being something worth having. Dunn showing respect at the end was a bit interesting to me, though I don’t think his behavior will change. Dunn can respect her, but still despise her and want to defeat her. It’s just an added layer to the history. It’s at a point now where there’s no reason for Dunn to take her as a lesser opponent as he had done earlier in the series. This was a great hard hitting and emotional bout with the desired ending.

To close out 2021, Davienne would successfully defend Mike Verna, JD Drake and VSK. Meanwhile, JT Dunn won control of Chaotic at Chaotic Wrestling’s Final Fight when he defeated Chase Del Monte. As a result, Dunn put Davienne in a match called Pandemonium, which involved Dunn, Davienne, Ace Romero, Alex Price, Brad Cashew, and Shannon LeVangie. Dunn would recapture the championship when Alisha Edwards helped Dunn and Chase Del Monte ended up joining the Unit. However, Davienne reminded them of her rematch clause and that her rematch with Dunn would take place inside of a steel cage on April 15th, 2022 at Cold Fury XX. In March, Davienne defeated Alisha in a Last Woman Standing Match to get some revenge.

Match #4 Rating & Thoughts: ***1/2. It’s a good cage match and a fitting conclusion to the feud. It was clear they repeated some spots from previous matches to tell a story, which is something I can appreciate. It seemed like that Del Monte getting involved kind of took away from the match and may have been unnecessary. I would have eliminated any kind of outside involvement and allow this to be a true cage match, which seems to be a rare thing to accomplish in wrestling. Regardless, it was a good match and fitting way to end the story. The era of Davienne in Chaotic begins.

I’m happy that I took the time to watch these matches and learn about the feud. This is one of the benefits of putting content on Youtube and allowing wrestling fans to check out the material. I learned about Davienne and became a fan of her work. I’m not sure I would have ever really came across this if it wasn’t on the YouTube channel. I hope you take the time to watch these matches, too. They were a lot of fun.

Thanks for reading.
