Matches:
1.) Tajiri defeated Tony Mamaluke
2.) ECW World Champion Justin Credible defeated Danny Doring to retain the title
3.) Rob Van Dam defeated Roadkill
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) The Tajiri vs. Mamaluke match is already taking place as the show starts. Mamaluke hits a tornado DDT, but Tajiri comes back with a kick and green mist. Tajiri spikes Mamaluke with the brainbuster to win the match. (NR. Obviously this is a major disappointment for me because these two could probably have a fantastic match.) After the match, Guido and Sal attack Tajiri.
2.) Joey Styles lets us know that new ECW Tag Team Champions will be crowned on the weekend of August 25 and 26th in the Hammerstein Ballroom. Dawn Marie is with Styles and is playing ditzy. Dawn wants to dance since it’s a ballroom and Styles just walks off annoyed with her.
3.) This was supposed to be Kid Kash getting a title shot against ECW World Champion Justin Credible, but CW Anderson attacked Kash and that has prevented that from happening. Instead, Danny Doring gets a title shot against Credible.
4.) Francine says the fans are crazy to think that she’d reveal what she has under her top. Credible says they had the decency to come to Peoria and the fans have to chant for Francine to show her tits. Credible isn’t going to tolerate the disrespect and walks out as the show goes to commercial.
5.) Doring and Credible counter each other with hammerlocks in the opening moments of the contest. Credible works over Doring with strikes in the corner to keep control of the bout. Doring sends Credible into the corner and eventually connects with a dropkick. Doring punches Credible several times in the corner. Credible is sent upside down into the corner and Doring delivers an atomic drop. Doring clotheslines Credible over the top to the floor. Doring hits a slingshot crossbody to the floor. Doring misses an attack in the corner and Credible nails Doring with a superkick. Credible grabs a chair a drop toe holds Doring onto the chair for a two count. Credible places a chair in front of Doring’s face in the corner. Credible delivers a running knee strike sending the chair into Doring’s face. Credible powerbombs Doring onto the chair for a near fall. Doring fights back with strikes in the corner, but an eye rake stops Doring. Credible comes off the ropes to leg drop Doring for a two count. Doring sunset flips Credible for a near fall and almost wins with a backslide. Credible nails Doring with a clothesline to regain the advantage. Credible goes to the floor and slides a table into the ring. Credible sets the table up in the corner, but Doring gets an abdominal stretch on Credible. Doring hip tosses Credible through the table in the corner for a near fall. Doring drops Credible with the Bareback and almost gets a three count. Credible whacks Doring with a kendo stick shot for a near fall. Doring plants Credible face first onto a chair with the G-Spot Sweep. Doring heads to the top rope and leaps off missing a leg drop. Credible goes to the top rope hitting a crossbody, but Doring rolls through and nearly pins Credible. Doring sends Credible into the referee in the corner. Doring plants Credibler with a DDT, but there’s no referee. Francine gets in the ring and is trapped in the corner. Doring has Francine for a piledriver, but Credible makes the save. Doring almost wins with an inside cradle. Doring tries for a tombstone, but Credible counters and hits That’s Incredible for the win. (**1/2. While there wasn’t much doubt that Credible would retain, I thought they did a good job of with the near falls and the crowd seemed to be bite a few times on Doring possibly winning the title. They work fairly well together and I enjoyed the contest.)
6.) Billy Corgen is in the ring looking to play some music when Lou E. Dangerously, Scotty Anton, Jack Victory and Steve Corino cut him off. Dangerously confronts Corgen in the ring. Dangerously doesn’t know why Corgen is even there. Dangerously notes they are in the same building that Corino punk’d out Fred Durst. Dangerously insults Corgen’s music. Dangerously says that Corgen can’t sell CDs in America. Dangerously demands Corgen leave his ring. Corgen instead teases a guitar shot and then does so to knock Dangerously out cold. The crowd goes nuts for that. Tommy Dreamer and Jerry Lynn slide into the ring to save Corgen from the Network. Dreamer gets on a microphone and issues a challenge to Corino and Anton if they want to wrestle. They want a tag team death match. I should note all of this happened on the July 28th episode of ECW on TNN.
7.) Roadkill backs RVD into a corner, but cleanly backs away. Roadkill backs RVD into a corner and delivers a few right hands. Roadkill misses a splash in the corner and RVD hits a crossbody off the top for a two count. RVD connects with a standing hurricanrana and a cartwheel splash for a two count. They trade right hands in the middle of the ring with RVD getting the advantage. Roadkill misses a clothesline and side slams RVD for a two count. RVD avoids a slam and delivers a rolling fireman’s carry and a moonsault off the middle rope for a two count. RVD forearms Roadkill a few times and rolls over Roadkill’s back. Roadkill connects with a powerslam for a two count as RVD rolls to the floor. RVD is sent into the guard railing and boots a charging Roadkill. RVD slips on a springboard moonsault attempt. Roadkill is backdropped over the railing into the crowd. RVD lays Roadkill over the railing and leaps off the apron to spin kick a chair over Roadkill’s back. RVD forearms Roadkill on the apron and tries for a suplex, but Roadkill drops RVD throat first over the top rope. Roadkill hits a springboard clothesline for a near fall.
Roadkill clotheslines RVD in the corner followed by a bulldog for a two count. RVD elbows free from Roadkill and tries for a rollup, but Roadkill sits down onto RVD. Roadkill splashes RVD in the corner and taunts the crowd. Roadkill covers RVD for a two count. Roadkill yanks RVD down by his hair, but misses an elbow drop. Roadkill slams RVD to the mat and hits a middle rope elbow drop. Roadkill covers RVD managing a two count. Roadkill runs into a boot in the corner and RVD nails Roadkill with a springboard kick to the face. RVD hammers away on Roadkill and leaps off the top to deliver another kick to the face. RVD plays to the crowd. RVD hits the rolling thunder splash onto a chair over Roadkill’s body for a near fall. RVD ducks a clothesline and kicks a chair into Roadkill’s face. RVD goes to the top rope hitting the Five Star Frog Splash. RVD rolls over for the cover and pins Roadkill to win the match. (**1/4. A decent match and was used as mostly a showcase for RVD. Roadkill didn’t get nearly the shine that Doring got in his match with Credible earlier.)
Final Thoughts:
There are a couple of solid matches making this a decent overall episode for Hardcore TV. I was bummed that Tajiri/Mamaluke wasn’t shown in full, but hopefully we can get a full match at some point on Hardcore TV. There weren’t any major angle developments this week.
Thanks for reading.
