2.) ECW Television Champion Kid Kash wrestled Mikey Whipwreck to a no contest
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Joey Styles is in the ring to begin the show with the fans chanting ECW. Styles notes this is their ECW debut in Canada.
2.) The show has been going on for fifteen minutes and after the opening segment, there was RVD’s entrance, ads and RVD playing to the crowd.
3.) RVD throws a few kicks, but Anderson avoids any contact. They trade go-behinds with Anderson getting a top wrist lock on RVD. They also trade hammerlocks. RVD arm drags Anderson and delivers a spin kick to drop Anderson to the mat. RVD jabs Anderson in the corner and backdrops Anderson to the apron. RVD punches Anderson before hitting a top rope strike to knock Anderson to the floor. RVD sends Anderson into the railing back first a couple of times. RVD drops Anderson over the railing gut first and Alfonso has a chair over Anderson’s back. RVD spin kicks the chair onto Anderson’s back from the apron. Anderson delivers a strike to RVD’s midsection and sends RVD into the railing. RVD battles back with a moonsault off the railing. RVD continues to work over Anderson with strikes and stomps in the corner. RVD elbows Anderson in the corner and goes for a sunset flip managing a two count. RVD stomps on Anderson and continues with right hands against the ropes. Anderson avoids a leapfrog and superkicks RVD. Anderson clotheslines RVD over the top to the floor. Anderson follows to the floor sending RVD into the railing. Anderson sends Alfonso over the railing into the crowd.
Anderson rams RVD face first onto the apron and delivers a chair shot over the back. Back in the ring, Anderson hits a fisherman buster for a two count. Anderson keeps RVD on the mat with a headlock. Anderson tosses RVD with the ferris wheel suplex for a near fall. Anderson jabs RVD in the corner with a strike. RVD sends Anderson into the corner, but is met with an elbow. Anderson leaps off the middle rope to clothesline RVD for a two count. Anderson stomps on RVD in the corner as the crowd gets behind RVD. Anderson misses a splash in the corner and crotches himself over the middle rope. RVD hits a rolling thunder splash onto Anderson, who had a chair over his body. Anderson blocks a kick, but RVD nails Anderson with a step over heel kick. RVD kicks Anderson into the corner followed by a few strikes. RVD atomic drops Anderson and gets a chair. RVD gets a chair and dropkicks the chair into Anderson’s face. RVD hits a handspring moonsault for a two count. RVD kicks Anderson and hits a rolling fireman’s carry. RVD connects with a middle rope moonsault for a two count. Alfonso brings a chair into the ring. Anderson manages to plant RVD onto the chai with a spinebuster for a near fall. Anderson kicks RVD and delivers a left hand punch for a two count.
Anderson tries for a slam, but RVD gets out of it and crotches Anderson on the top rope. RVD strikes Anderson a few times and kicks a chair into Anderson’s face on the top rope thanks to Alfonso holding the chair. RVD goes to the top rope hitting the Five Star Frog Splash for the win. (**1/2. I wanted to like this more than I did, but I found myself not buying into Anderson as a Huy who could defeat RVD. They’ve been trying to push Anderson for a few months now, but I think this is an example of putting CW in a match that the viewer wouldn’t buy into. It’s a fine match, but I felt like RVD should have won this match in shorter time.)
4.) Joey Styles says that Kelly and Sue from Survivor could be appearing in a ring and could arrive in ECW. Francine doesn’t like this and her comments could be read at their website, according to Styles.
5.) There are a few segments that also aired on ECW on TNN. That featured Chris Chetti hitting Nova with a chair and cutting a promo saying he’s underrated and the only athlete in the company. Balls Mahoney came out and Chetti delivered a chair shot, but Mahoney wasn’t hurt and Chetti bailed to the floor. Da Baldies came out and attacked Mahoney, as well.
6.) Whipwreck keeps a wrist lock on Kash, but Whipwreck is met with a shoulder block. Kash gets a springboard sunset flip for a two count. Kash tries for a cover, but they trade pin attempts and they have a standoff. Whipwreck misses a clothesline and is dumped over the top to the floor. Kash takes Whipwreck out with a dive. Kash sends Whipwreck into the railing followed by a few chops. Kash is dropped face first over the apron. Whipwreck sends Kash into the railing chest first. Whipwreck keeps control with chops against the railing. Whipwreck kicks Kash on the apron a few times. Whipwreck misses a slingshot elbow drop over the middle rope. Kash hits a clothesline off the top for a two count. Kash chops Whipwreck against the ropes. Whipwreck hits a tilt a whirl slam for a two count. Whipwreck has Kash over his shoulder, but Rhino comes out and GORES Kash and Whipwreck. Rhino spikes Whipwreck with a piledriver as the show goes to commercial. The match is a no contest.
7.) The final segment of the show is a TV title match between Kash and Rhino. This match would be aired on ECW on TNN. Basically, Rhino regains the ECW Television Championship following a GORE through a table in the corner. Rhino GORES RVD, but RVD recovers to avoid a piledriver and there’s a brawl to end the show.
Final Thoughts:
An average episode this week for Hardcore TV. I would have liked Kash keep the TV Championship since the Rhino/RVD feud really doesn’t need the title involved. I understand why they added it to the feud, but Kash was benefiting from the title and having good matches during the brief reign.
