December 27th, 1998, World Championship Wrestling held their pay-per-view spectacular known as Starrcade. Starrcade has traditionally been a must-see event for WCW over the past decade. The 1998 edition was headlined by the undefeated WCW World Champion Goldberg defending against Kevin Nash. Plus, Eric Bischoff and Ric Flair squared off to handle their grudge match that had grown with intensity over the several months prior.
In what would be seen as a major mistake, Eric Bischoff pinned Ric Flair at the event with help from Curt Hennig. The personal issue between the two seemed to lead to a logical babyface overcoming the odds, but in this case Flair couldn’t get the pay-per-view revenge on Bischoff. Flair prevailed over Bischoff on Nitro the next night, and gained power over WCW for 90 days.
A bigger mistake ended up ending the undefeated streak of WCW World Champion Goldberg to Kevin Nash. It was not a clean loss as Scott Hall came down with a taser and zapped Goldberg leading to Nash hitting the Jackknife powerbomb for the win. Within two weeks, Nash laid down for Hogan on 1/4 and essentially made a mockery of the major moment all to put the title back on Hogan to start 1999.
This project is a fantasy rebooking series that myself and my longtime friend/Wrestling Recaps contributor Austin Skinner will be putting together. Can we put together a fun and coherent WCW program? It will surely be a fun challenge… and one YOU will be a part of. Austin has previously written about ECW while Bob has had a lengthy rebooking of WWF during the Next Generation era, that continues to this day.
In a Russo-like swerve, we’re giving readers the option to pick winners here and there throughout the project. Special polls will be featured in show write ups that will be open for voting, giving readers a chance at booking in the BIG TIME! Want a main event of Nitro to end in a draw? The underdog to beat the champ? Get those votes in and keep an eye out for the next episode to catch the results!
We are approaching the 25th Anniversary of the Finger Poke Of Doom, but how often do people deep dive into what happened afterward? When did it completely fall off the wagon? When was there no chance of saving WCW? Join us as we relive the madness that is WCW, and rebook WCW into what it could have been, for better or for worse.

Looking forward to whatever insane logic commences from leaving some booking decisions up to whatever random fans show up at the door. I don’t recommend it, but looking at who showed up on “Saturday Night” and “Worldwide” during this time is a wild mill of crazy possibilities. Crossing my fingers for Barry “Hole in One” Darsow versus former Olympic bobsledder turned C-show staple Chip Minton!
