Matches:
1.) Steve Blackman defeated Taka Michinoku & Funaki in a handicap match
2.) Raven defeated Crash Holly
3.) X-Pac defeated Billy Gunn
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Al Snow is the special guest at WWF New York this week. Snow lost the WWF Commissioner spot to William Regal on Smackdown. Snow says he would have made a fine commissioner, but he lost. Snow can’t take that he let everyone down. George, or Germ, is on the stage and has a box with him from Mick Foley. The box moves and Al’s campaign team, two little people, come out of the box to cheer Snow up. Snow isn’t sure he wants to be a wrestler under Regal’s regime in the WWF.
2.) Backstage, Al Snow talks to his campaign team and they will think of others things Snow can do other than being a wrestler.
3.) Kaientai make their way down to the ring. Taka says they have found the formula to achieve victory and that is wrestling two against one. Taka issues a challenge for a handicap match. Funaki finishes off with indeed. Steve Blackman answers the challenge.
4.) Taka starts the match with Blackman and is met with a right hand. Blackman misses a kick and leg sweeps Taka, but misses an elbow drop. Blackman tosses Taka with a wheelbarrow suplex and drives Funaki down to the mat face first. Taka works over Blackman with strikes. Funaki tags into the match and sends Blackman through the ropes to the floor. Funaki is sent into the railing back first. Blackman rams Funaki face first into the ring steps. Taka hits a springboard crossbody over the ropes to the floor onto Blackman. Taka stomps on Blackman to keep control. Taka dropkicks Blackman while Funaki had a chin lock on Blackman. Blackman trades kicks Taka and gets the better of the exchange. Funaki decks Blackman with a right hand. Taka rams Blackman into the corner and they hit a double dropkick to Blackman. Taka accidentally hits Funaki with a spinning heel kick. Blackman clotheslines Funaki and takes Taka over with a belly to belly suplex. Blackman decks Funaki with a bicycle kick. Blackman locks in a body scissors dragon sleeper on Funaki and wins the match. (*1/4. We all knew how this was going to go. Kaientai has gotten themselves over fairly well and to have them job out to people who aren’t going to have a direction is unfortunate to see.)
5.) Backstage, Al Snow is chatting with his campaign guys about what he could possibly do outside of wrestling. Snow says that he can sing and he could sing the national anthem at WrestleMania. Snow insults them with Oompa Loompa songs.
6.) Molly and the mystery Ninja are at ringside for the next match. Raven works over Crash in the corner with right hands. Raven misses a right hand and Crash nearly wins with a rollup. They trade rollups with neither man getting a three count. Crash rams Raven into the corner a few times. Crash drop toe holds Raven into the corner and plays to the crowd. Crash stomps on Raven and catapults Raven chest first into the corner for a near fall. Ninja trips Crash running the ropes and Molly wants to get her hands on Ninja. Crash almost wins with a rollup from behind. Raven clotheslines Crash in the corner and awkwardly drives Crash down to the mat. Raven puts a neck vice on Crash, but doesn’t get a submission. Crash has a sleeper on Raven, but Raven breaks free with a jawbreaker. Raven rams Crash into the corner and they trade strikes. Crash elbows Raven followed by a clothesline. Crash slams Raven and heads to the top rope. Crash hits a missile dropkick, but Ninja gets on the apron again. Raven is decked by Crash, but Ninja drops Crash over the top rope allowing Raven to hit the DDT for the win. (*. This was a really sloppy match. Two hardcore guys working non-hardcore matches is a recipe for disaster.) After the match Molly and Crash get some revenge with Molly ripping off the mask. It is revealed to be Tori!
7.) Backstage, Al Snow is interviewing various people at WWF New York.
8.) WWF Women’s Champion Ivory makes her way down to the ring to cut a promo. Ivory has a few words to say about Chyna. Ivory lists her accomplishments and says that Chyna is not a role model. Ivory is furious with the fans for making Chyna’s book a bestseller and they continue to buy her Playboy magazine. Ivory says they tried to help Chyna, but she wouldn’t listen to them. Ivory is sick to see Chyna on talk shows and award shows. Ivory is sure that the fans would love to see another Playboy spread of Chyna, which is disgusting. Ivory believes they’d buy the magazine instead of buying school supplies for their kids. Ivory officially accepts the challenge for WrestleMania and she will continue to fight the good fight.
9.) Backstage, Al Snow continues to talk to the campaign guys and they whisper into his ear a new plan. After a commercial, Snow is doing a ring announcing for the campaign guys and they lockup. Snow knows that he can be a referee as a shirt is tossed onto him.
10.) Pac taunts Gunn by flexing in the middle of the ring. Gunn shoves Pac into the corner and delivers a few strikes. Pac kicks Gunn and continues with strikes. Gunn press slams Pac coming off the ropes and plays to the crowd. Gunn clotheslines Pac over the top to the floor. Pac asks for a timeout on the floor, but Gunn grabs Pac on the aisle and delivers a right hand before returning to the ring. Credible nails Gunn with a superkick on the floor and taunts the fans as Pac keeps control with strikes. Pac kicks Gunn several times followed by a standing spin kick. Pac locks in a sleeper hold on Gunn and Gunn drops down to his knees. Gunn elbows free, but is nailed by a spinning heel kick from Pac. Pac continues with kicks in the corner dropping Gunn to the mat. Pac hits the bronco buster in the corner. Gunn gets a second wind and nails Pac with a clothesline. Gunn plants Pac with a tilt a whirl slam and hits a jackhammer. Gunn plants Pac with the Fame-Asser, but Credible puts Pac’s leg on the bottom rope. Gunn is distracted by Credible and decks Credible off the apron. Pac manages to get a rollup and pins Gunn from behind. (*1/2. It was obvious there is some chemistry between these two, but the match was rushed and we got a cheap finish. So, it’s a disappointing match, but still fairly entertaining all things considered.)
11.) Backstage, Al Snow continues to referee the match between his campaign partners. They stop fighting and tell Snow they have work to do and head towards the stage.
12.) Al Snow returns to the stage with his campaign friends and says he hasn’t decided his future with Regal as the commissioner. Snow is cutoff by his campaign friends and they reveal that they have brought Head back to Snow. Snow proclaims he’ll be a WWF superstar for life to end the show.
Final Thoughts:
I didn’t enjoy this weeks episode of Heat. The matches were disappointing and Snow wasn’t entertaining in his role as the comedy didn’t connect with me. They all can’t be winners, I suppose.
Thanks for reading.
