Lance Russell and Dave Brown welcome everyone to the program. They say the first Renegade Rampage match will take place on television next week. Damn it.
Opening Contest: Manny Fernandez vs. Rodney Napper: Fernandez controls the majority of the match with strikes and a back kick. Fernandez wins following a crossbody as Napper came off the ropes.
Lance Russell chats with Jimmy Jack Funk. Funk talks about all the sissies in the promotion being the top faces and claims he is a hero along with Teijo Khan.
Second Contest: Jimmy Jack Funk & Teijo Kahn vs. The Wilson Brothers (Benny & David): Funk and Khan attack before the bell. Funk could have won after a shoulder breaker, but pulled up the opponent. Kahn gets the easy pin following a strike to the throat. After the match, Funk and Kahn continue to beat on their opponents.
Lance Russell interviews Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett says that 1988 has started off tough with matches against Hector Guerrero. Jarrett doesn’t feel sorry for Guerrero. Russell brings up the poster ad and Jarrett appears to be embarrassed about it. Jimmy Jack Funk comes out and says that Jarrett should be embarrassed by that picture being on TV. Funk thinks that Jarrett should be a picture of birth control. Jarrett tells Funk that he’s the only abortion to live. Funk wants Jarrett to get in the ring with him tonight. Jarrett’s not going to backdown. Jarrett goes to the ring, but Funk attacks from behind with a steel chair. Funk rolls Jarrett into the ring and delivers several strikes. Funk misses a wild strike and Jarrett hammers away on Funk with right hands.
Third Contest: Jeff Jarrett vs. Jimmy Jack Funk: This apparently a match with Jarrett hammering away on Funk in the corner. Funk eye rakes Jarrett and decks Jarrett to the mat. Jarrett clotheslines Funk and Funk begs off in the corner. Teijo Kahn predictably comes out and attacks Jarrett from behind. Jarrett is double teamed by the heels. Manny Fernandez comes out and rolls Jarrett to the apron. Fernandez decks Kahn with a chop and leaves the ring.
Lance Russell chats with Manny Fernandez. Fernandez tells Jimmy Jack Funk that he had a common cause and fought for the American way. Fernandez says he’s a one on one kind of man. If he can’t get it done then he won’t do it. Fernandez threatens to rip Funk apart limb by limb if he gets in his way again. He is tired of cowards in the CWA. Funk is pissed about this development.
Lance Russell interviews Jerry Lawler. Lawler still has possession of the ring and told Russell that he would leave the match with the ring and he did just that. Lawler knows that Dundee has a lot of fans, and that’s fine. Lawler doesn’t care how popular Dundee is. This is all about winning and Dundee wants a win over him badly. Lawler says that they both have something to prove with who the better man is. Lawler left the arena with the check and cashes the check. Well, it turns out that the check bounced. Dundee makes his way out with a little bit of swagger. Dundee denies that Lawler won the match and says that he had Lawler pinned forever. Lawler notes that Dundee used a chain to knock him out. Lawler thinks it is funny that Dundee knew he needed to use a chain. Lawler knows that Dundee isn’t much of a man to have the check stopped. Dundee continues to say that he beat Lawler, but Lawler tells Dundee that he didn’t. Dundee says he has three days to change his mind if he doesn’t like what he bought and he did just that. Dundee cashed the check and is going to apparently put the money up in cash. Lawler flaunts the ring on his hand. Lawler tells Dundee that he can’t beat him. Dundee wants a different referee and tells Lawler he can’t beat him. Lawler shoves Dundee down and Dundee returns with a chair but is stopped by Eddie Marlin and Randy Hales.
AWA Tag Team Champions Midnight Rockers take the microphone from Lance Russell to cut a promo. Jannetty cuts a promo about the slow people in the South. Jannetty says they are stuck with these jokers. There is nothing that’s going to stop them from getting what they want. Michaels mentions there being two referees in their match and all that’s going to do is allow four eyes to see shoulders on the mat. Michaels wants to be on a clean slate with everyone and be on good terms. Michaels says they want a little bit of competition and they aren’t ask for a lot. Jannetty pokes fun at the poster for Jeff Jarrett. Michaels is starting to think that nobody believes what they are saying.
Third Contest: AWA Tag Team Champions Midnight Rockers (Michaels & Jannetty) vs. Rick Fontana & Todd Morton: The Rockers wanted some competition and they weren’t given much competition this time around. Morton is related to Ricky Morton, according to the announcers. Rockers win the match following a double DDT to Fontana.
Main Event: Power Twins (David & Larry) vs. Billy Travis & Todd Morton: Morton is pulling double duty. Nate the Great is with the Power Twins. Travis gets some offense hitting a backdrop and punching both twins. Travis fights out of a corner with right hands. Travis misses a knee drop and the bell rings for a commercial break. The match just ends, apparently.
Lance Russell chats with the Midnight Rockers. Shawn Michaels mocks being afraid of Lawler dropping the strap. Michaels says the fans never gave them the time of day when they came into the company. Michaels tells Russell that they are tired of going to arenas for half price tickets. They are not appearing anywhere until the ticket prices are doubled. Jannetty says the police protection has been horrible. Jannetty wants some better protection to protect them from the ladies. Michaels again asks for some competition in the area to close the program.
Final Thoughts:
It’s a better episode than the first couple of the year, but it’s still an overall boring product right now. Jarrett/Funk is a fine feud and a solid enough story to it. Lawler/Dundee had a solid segment to continue their feud, but it’s been played out and it’s a little repetitive to see them in the main event spot. Fernandez face turn doesn’t really matter to me at this point.
Thanks for reading.
