Rios ducks a clothesline and Kwik hits a scissors kick for a two count. Kwik heads to the top rope, but is crotched by Rios. Rios tries for a hurricanrana, but misses. Kwik hits a middle rope front suplex and pins Rios for the win. (***. I enjoyed that bout quite a bit to start off 2001 on Metal. This is why I’m watching the D-level show because of absolute hidden gems. Metal is below the C-level show Heat at this point. Kwik worked great and Rios displayed some great offense during the bout. The crowd responded well, as well.)
3.) Tiger Ali Singh cuts a promo saying they are tired of the American booing them every time. Singh asks if it’s because of their clothing or turban. Singh believes it is because of their money and power because none of them have any. Singh demands their silence as they pay their respects.
4.) Brown attacks Sexay from behind with a few strikes for the cheap advantage. Brown controls Sexay with a side headlock. Brown shoulder blocks Sexay, but Sexay comes back with a hip toss. Sexay kicks Brown in the midsection and delivers a kick to the side of the head. Sexay nails Brown with a baseball slide kick and strikes on the floor. Sexay is stopped on the middle rope by Brown’s elbow strikes. Sexay tries for a tornado DDT and spikes Brown out of the corner. Sexay hits a bulldog out of the corner for a two count. Sexay tries for another bulldog, but Brown sends Sexay groin first into the corner. Brown scoop slams Sexay and leaps off the middle rope missing a leg drop attempt. Sexay hammers away on Brown and hits a backdrop after ducking a clothesline. Sexay clotheslines Brown and hits a middle rope dropkick for a two count. Sexay hits a middle rope crossbody, but Singh gets on the apron to distract the referee. Sexay crotches Brown over the ropes, but Singh drops Sexay with a neckbreaker as the referee was checking on Brown. Brown covers Sexay and wins the match. (**. Considering the gimmick change for D’Lo this is probably an upset victory. I don’t see Brown lasting in this gimmick, at all.)
5.) Tiger Ali Singh cuts another promo saying he demands their silence, and is quickly cutoff by Scotty 2 Hotty.
6.) Chaz tries to cheap shot Hotty, but fails. Hotty decks Chaz with a strike and a hip toss. Hotty clotheslines Chaz over the top to the floor. Hotty misses a baseball slide and is met with strikes by Chaz. Chaz sends Hotty over the top, but Hotty pulls himself up and tosses Chaz over the top to the floor. Hotty goes after Singh on the floor, but Chaz drops Hotty chest first over the railing. Chaz keeps control on the floor before rolling Hotty back into the ring. Chaz chokes Hotty over the middle rope. Hotty ducks a clothesline, but runs into an atomic drop and a leaping elbow strike by Chaz for a two count. Chaz drives Hotty down to the mat with a side slam for a two count. Chaz strikes Hotty over the back and tries for a suplex, but Hotty counters with a rollup attempt. Chaz axe handles Hotty over the back several times. Hotty kicks Chaz out of the corner and continues with right hands in the corner. Chaz powerslams Hotty out of the corner for a two count. Chaz tries for a powerbomb, but Hotty counters with a DDT. They trade strikes in the middle of the ring until Hotty backdrops Chaz coming off the ropes. Hotty tosses Chaz with an overhead suplex for a two count. Chaz boots a charging Hotty in the corner, but misses a splash. Hotty hits a bulldog and proceeds to hit the WORM. Singh gets on the apron to distract the referee. Grandmaster Sexay comes down to the ringside area. Chaz plants Hotty with a Burning Hammer, but the referee is distracted by Singh as Sexay hits a top rope leg drop on Chaz allowing for Hotty to pin Chaz for the win. (*1/2. Chaz using the Burning Hammer is probably an underrated finisher for a superstar in the WWF. It’s a devastating move and the fact that an undercard guy like Chaz is using it and not winning with it is a bit baffling. The crowd was mostly dead for this until Hotty hit the WORM and the finish.)
Final Thoughts:
The show had a bit too much of Tiger Ali Singh for my liking, but the Rios/Kwik match was good and the overall show was not too bad. I’ll give the first Metal of 2001 a thumbs up.
Thanks for reading.
