Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) We see footage of WWF World Champion Bret Hart defending the championship against The Berzerker, Papa Shango, and Virgil. Hart has defended the title more than several of the champions before him, especially televised events.
2.) Mean Gene conducted an interview with the number one contender, Ric Flair, at a restaurant. Flair says he’s obsessed with greatness and being number one. Flair considers number one being the WWF World Champion. Flair thinks Mr. Perfect is trying to be him and run from his shadow. Flair will deal with Perfect at a different time when it is right. Gene reminds Flair that Hart is the man who beat Flair for the championship. Flair tells Gene other people would be pressed by how Gene is talking to him. Flair considers the loss to be similar to stubbing his toe. Flair thinks it makes Hart big time that he beat Flair one time. Flair tells Gene he gets whatever he wants at the snap of his finger and he’s going to be a three time WWF World Champion. Flair promises that Hart’s days are numbered.
3.) Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon are on commentary. Heenan says they have big plans for Mr. Perfect noting that Razor Ramon has plans for Perfect suggesting a coat throat. Heenan panic a bit when Monsoon mentions they’ll hear from Perfect later on in the program.
4.) The mysterious clown is seen at the end of the Headshrinkers squash match. The clown appeared to squirt water on a few fans.
5.) They show Bam-Bam Bigelow’s return bout from Superstars in full.
6.) A vignette of Slick preaching is shown. Slick had to take some time away from being a manager. Slick says there was a need to spread the word. Slick has been sent to be a missionary in the WWF.
7.) Virgil shared pre-tape comments putting over WWF World Champion Bret Hart. Virgil says he gave Hart all he had and Hart retained the belt. Virgil wishes Bret luck as champion and he’s there for him all the way.
8.) Mr. Perfect vignettes playing various sports and succeeding at them is shown. These were all originally aired in 1988.
9.) Damian Demento shares pre-tape comments during his match. Demento warns the WWF wrestlers that they will suffer severe pain.
10.) Marty Jannetty shared pre-tape comments saying he wants to see how easy it is for WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels to remain champion when someone who knows him very well is coming to kick his butt.
11.) The mysterious clown is seen on the aisle during Rick Martel’s entrance.
12.) Next week, Tatanka, WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels, Yokozuna, WWF World Champion Bret Hart interviewed. The main event for the Royal Rumble will be announced.
Final Thoughts:
A decent episode of Challenge this week. The idea of Flair/Hart and Savage/Michaels as being the main attractions on the house shows seems to be a good direction to go in. I’d imagine Hart/Flair would be the main event at Rumble judging by how TV is going.
