Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) A video package highlighting AJ Styles and Tomko joining the Angle Alliance at Genesis and Christian Cage not being happy about it. There will be a summit tonight.
2.) Backstage, Jeremy Borash hypes up the summit taking place and hears some yelling. Christian Cage is talking to Robert Roode and Borash goes to leave, but Cage pulls Borash back in. Cage tells Roode that you can’t trust anyone here in TNA. Cage can’t believe that he got cost the ladder match against Kaz at Genesis. Cage wants to know why Booker T is in TNA. It’s because Booker is there to take Roode’s spot and walk over Roode. Cage isn’t worried about his spot, but is worried for a guy like Roode. Cage says that Roode can do something about it, or be a welcome mat. Roode knows this and isn’t stupid. Roode has seen the revolving door or has beens entering TNA. Roode says that Booker T is going to find out it pays to be Roode… tonight.
3.) Booker T and Sharmell make their way down to the ring to cut a promo. Booker talks about taking this journey to TNA. Booker wanted to address everyone and plugs his personal website. Booker says everyone wants to know why he left the WWE. The crowd chants “Vince sucks”, but Booker says he left for many, many reasons. Booker says when the book comes out he’ll tell the whole world why he left. However, tonight he’s here to reveal why he’s in TNA. It’s because TNA is the hottest thing going. He’s there to test his skills and he’s here to take TNA to a higher level. Booker wants TNA to be the best wrestling organization in the world. Booker is here to finish what he started 18 years ago. He wants to shock and amaze the crowd. Booker wants the TNA World Championship and wants people to say they don’t want none from him.
Robert Roode’s music hits and Roode comes out with Traci by his side on the aisle. Roode says that Booker is not welcomed to TNA. Roode introduces himself to Booker. Roode says he’s the future of the company. Roode has been busting his butt and moving his way up the ladder. Roode keeps seeing washed up has beens walking through the door and pushing him back down the ladder. Roode says that Booker is not pushing him down the ladder and taking his spot. Roode wants Booker to prove that he’s the superstar he says he is tonight. Roode will leave his skank in the back and Booker leave his skank in the back. Traci didn’t like that. Booker tells Roode to watch what he says before he gets his ass whooped. Roode tells Booker to try it and Booker tries to leave, but Sharmell holds him back. Roode calls Sharmell a tramp and Booker walks up the aisle, but is stopped by security. Roode challenges Booker to a match for later on in the show.
4.) Backstage, Christy Hemme, Jimmy Rave and Lance Hoyt are interview. Hemme is upset about being attacked by LAX and says that a man hitting a woman isn’t tolerated. Hemme tells Rave that he’s not screwing up their match tonight or he’ll be sorry.
5.) Hemme and Kim start off the match with Hemme taking Kim down for a moment. Hemme misses a strike and Kim gets arm control. Hemme reaches the ropes to break the hold. Hemme elbows Kim away and sends Kim into the corner. Kim tries for an arm drag, but Hemme holds onto the ropes. Rave tags into the match, but Young tags into the bout as well. Rave knee lifts Young and shoulder blocks Young. Young hits a Thez Press with a few right hands. Rave runs the ropes and takes Young down to the mat with an arm bar, but Young rolls through, but is trapped in a modified triangle choke. Young sits Rave on the top rope and yanks Rave across the ring. Hoyt trips Young and rams Young into the post groin first. Rave follows up with a dropkick to maintain control of the contest leading to a near fall. Rave mounts Young with a series of right hands. Rave stomps Young on the face and heads to the top rope. Rave leaps off and is met with an atomic drop. Hoyt gets in the ring and is tossed to the floor. Young decks Rave. Kim tags in and Hemme enters, as well. Kim spears Hemme in the corner and avoids a splash. Kim hits a top rope hurricanrana on Rave, but Hemme drops Kim to the mat. Kim counters Hemme with a rollup and wins the match. (*. I felt disconnected from this match and didn’t really care for what they were doing. I enjoyed Rave in ROH, but he’s doing a completely different character and not being used to his fullest potential.)
6.) James Storm comes down to the ring after the previous match. Storm is there for the second annual drinking contest and wants his championship back. Storm says it is who will drink the most beer in a minute. A table is brought into the ring and after a commercial they are ready to compete. They are tied at four beers with 20-seconds left. Young manages to prevail winning the contest six beers to five. Storm is pissed and can’t believe he lost again. Storm ends up breaking a beer bottle over Young’s face, as expected. Young is busted wide open. Storm whacks Young over the head with a chair shot. Storm delivers the Eye of the Storm and stands over Young saying he’s the champion. Storm slaps Young and says he’s sorry about his damn luck.
7.) Backstage, Jeremy Borash is with the TNA World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Tomko. Styles says that as team captain they will all be working as a unit. Styles believes there will not be any issues amongst himself, Tomko, Cage and Angle. Tomko chimes in and says that Cage and Angle hate each other, but Styles doesn’t believe that. Styles tells Tomko that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are together. Tomko tells Styles he watches too much TMZ and they walk off to get ready for their match.
8.) A video package highlighting Team 3D’s issues with the X-Division over the past several months is shown.
9.) Team 3D attack before the bell hammering away on Lethal and Dutt. Ray works over Dutt in the corner with right hands while Devon focuses on Lethal. Ray chokes Dutt over the middle rope and taunts the camera about the X-Division. Ray continues to pummel Dutt with right hands as does Devon to Lethal. Dutt and Lethal dropkick 3D from behind to the floor. Dutt and Lethal hit a slingshot crossbody to the floor onto 3D. Lethal and Dutt setup a table on the floor and fight off Team 3D. They go into the crowd where Lethal leaps off the bleachers to hit a crossbody on Devon in the crowd. Dutt is in the ring and dives onto Ray on the floor. The show goes to commercial.
Dutt hits a 450 splash on Ray and Lethal hits a top rope elbow drop for a two count as Devon makes the save. Dutt and Lethal strike Devon in the corner to maintain control. During the break, Lethal shoved Ding Dongs in Team 3D’s mouthes while also hitting Ray with trash can shots. Dutt hits a somersault dropkick to kick the trash can into Devon’s face in the corner for a two count. Johnny Devine hits Lethal with a kendo stick causing Lethal to fall off the top and crashes through a table on the floor. Lethal ends up getting hit with the 3D and is pinned. (**1/2. The end game has to be the X-Division getting over on Team 3D otherwise this whole angle makes little sense to me. This was a fun match some good big bumps. Devine seemingly being the challenger for Lethal is a little bizarre since there are several better options, but whatever.) After the match, Team 3D attack Lethal and Dutt with nunchucks on the floor. However, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley make the save to end the segment.
10.) Backstage, AJ Styles is begging Kurt Angle to meet with Christian Cage, but Angle isn’t interested. Styles reminds Angle who they are wrestling and wants Angle to talk to Cage. Styles says that Karen said he can be on both teams. Karen admits that she said that. Kurt tells Karen that she’s talking to Christian Cage. Karen walks off, but insists she’s not talking to Cage.
11.) A video package highlighting the 10,000 tacks match is shown.
12.) Rellik starts off with right hands on Rhino, but Rhino responds with strikes and a shoulder block. Rhino rams Rellik into the corner and continues with right hands. Rhino clotheslines Rellik coming out of the corner followed by a belly to belly suplex. Rhino waits in the corner, but is sent into the corner shoulder first. Rellik plants Rhino with a spinebuster. Rellik elbow drops Rhino and boot scrapes Rhino to keep control. Rellik mounts Rhino with right hands to keep the advantage. Rellik chokes Rhino on the mat to keep control. Rellik drops Rhino with a right hand. Rhino tries to fight back, but is met with a running kick by Rellik. Rhino rolls to the floor and holds his forearm. Rellik mounts Rhino with right hands in the ring to keep control. Rellik keeps Rhino on the mat with a cobra clutch. Rhino plants Rellik with a spinebuster. Rhino hits the GORE and wins the match. After the match, Black Reign attacks Rhino. Abyss makes his way out with a bag of tacks. Abyss cleans house with forearms and tosses Reign over the top to the floor. Abyss dumps the tacks out to taunt Reign and Rellik. (*. I’m sure this would have been better if it was a hardcore match. Rellik didn’t do much for me here and Rhino’s shine was mostly just hitting the GORE and getting a clean win.)
13.) Backstage, AJ Styles is with Tomko and Jeremy Borash. Borash wants Styles to listen to him. Borash tells Styles he’s gotta stay cool and collected when talking to Cage. Styles wants Tomko to go in first and talk to Cage. Tomko and Styles enter the room where Cage is on the phone. Cage pushes Styles up against the wall and says it took them weeks to get the courage to talk to him. Cage wants to know what Tomko was thinking. Tomko notes Cage told him to not think. Cage is glad he hasn’t talked to them because it could have gotten ugly. Cage had a moment of clarity and realized he doesn’t need them, but rather they need him. Cage hopes they are happy because the Christian Coalition is over with. Cage insists he’s not their boss anymore. Cage suggests Styles go kiss Angle’s ass. Cage asks if Styles would embarrass his father just as he embarrassed him. Styles didn’t mean to and wants to do something to change Cage’s mind. Cage wants Styles to bring Kurt to him and Kurt has two minutes to explain to him what’s going on. Styles is going to get Karen. Cage doesn’t like that Karen will be coming.
14.) Backstage, AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Karen Angle and Jeremy Borash are sitting at a table for a meeting. Styles asks everyone to say I that is present, and they all do. Styles wants everyone to work together as a team. Styles asks Cage and Karen to shake hands. They are not interested in shaking hands. Karen stands up to shake hands. Cage stands up and shakes her hand. Styles is thrilled by this and celebrates on the table. Styles asks for a group hug and they all embrace. Cage wants to talk business with Karen in private. Cage grabs Karen and says that tonight he’s going out there for one reason and that is to win. Cage tells Karen if she or Kurt try to screw him it’s the worse thing they could do. Karen understands and leaves the room.
15.) Roode stalls on the apron, but returns to the ring. Roode backs Booker into a corner and cleanly backs off. Booker blocks a cheap shot and forearms Roode several times. Booker nails Roode with a standing heel kick. Booker plants Roode with a spinebuster. Roode shoulder rams Booker in the corner several times. Roode continues with strikes and chops against the ropes. Booker avoids Roode in the corner and delivers several strikes. Booker hooks Roode for a suplex and takes Roode over for a two count. Roode drops Booker throat first over the top rope. Roode hits a running swinging neckbreaker for a two count as the show goes to commercial.
Roode rolls Booker up for a two count. Roode continues with a clothesline. We see Roode’s crazy fan watching the match from the second level. Roode knee drops Booker on the upper back. Roode keeps a chin lock on Booker, but doesn’t get a submission. Booker battles out with elbow strikes and chops. Booker elbows a charging Roode, but Roode plants Booker with a spinebuster for a two count. Roode plants Booker with a DDT for a near fall. Roode wants a chair and Traci eventually gives him a chair. Booker ducks a chair shot and nails Roode with another side kick. Booker hits the scissors kick and pins Roode to win cleanly. After the match, Christian Cage attacks Booker to and jabs Booker with a chair several times on the mat. Sharmell is cornered, but Kaz runs down to the ring and makes the save. Kaz sends Roode to the floor and Booker takes care of Cage. (**. Well, I’m not surprised that Booker would win this match and do so cleanly. I just hate it. TNA can’t build their own guys if they are constantly losing to guys from the other company jumping ship. If at some point Roode wins a match over Booker then it’s better. But, I’m sure over next few months Booker will be an unstoppable force and gets a title shot in early 2008 against Angle.)
16.) Backstage, Scott Steiner is interviewed and he’s not happy about being in an eight-man tag match tonight. Steiner doesn’t want to work with friends because he doesn’t have any friends. Crystal explains to Steiner what Feast or Fired concept is at Turning Point. Steiner asks who has the balls to fire him. Steiner believes he’ll be getting a title shot at Turning Point.
17.) Steiner and Styles kickoff the main event with Steiner shoving Styles into the corner. Steiner drops Styles to the mat face first, as well. Steiner flexes to showoff his muscles. Styles tags out to Tomko. Styles is really excited about the team working together and tags back into the match only to tag Tomko back into the match. Tomko backs Steiner into a corner, but Steiner gains the advantage with chops in the corner. Steiner decks Tomko with a clothesline and delivers an elbow drop. Steiner does a few pushups before tagging in Joe. Joe jabs Tomko several times and rams Tomko into the corner. Joe nails Tomko with a running knee strike. Joe connects with a knee drop and tags in Kaz. Kaz kicks Tomko followed by a strike, but Tomko chops Kaz a few times. Kaz battles back with strikes and a dropkick. Kaz taunts Styles and tags in Abyss. Abyss works over Tomko with strikes in the corner. Tomko fires back with right hands to Abyss. Tomko elbows Abyss in the corner, but runs into a big boot. Angle knee lifts Abyss from the apron, but Abyss knocks Angle to the mat. Tomko knocks Abyss to the floor where Angle and Styles deliver cheap shots. Styles continues to punch Abyss and gets help from Cage to roll Abyss into the ring.
Tomko goes for a cover, but the referee is distracted by the other team. Angle tags in and stomps Abyss followed by strikes. Styles returns to the match and stomps on Abyss. Abyss press slams Styles to the mat and both men struggle to get up. Steiner gets the tag and cleans house with overhead suplexs to everyone on the opposing side. Steiner has Cage on his shoulders and tags in Kaz. Kaz hits a top rope dropkick to knock Cage to the mat. Kaz nails Angle with another dropkick for a two count as Styles makes the save. Kaz drops Styles to the mat gut first. Cage low blows Kaz and drops Kaz over the top rope. Cage knee lifts Kaz off the apron to the floor. Tomko sends Kaz into the railing as the show goes to commercial.
Kaz tries to tag out, but Cage stops Kaz by ramming him into the corner. Cage leaps off the middle rope, but is met with a dropkick in midair. During the break, Angle and Cage yelled at each other. Tomko kept control on Kaz with a running powerslam and suplex. Angle beats on Kaz with strikes to the lower back. Angle drops Kaz with an uppercut for a near fall. Angle keeps Kaz on the mat with a go-behind. Tomko and Styles enter the ring to help put. Angle tosses Kaz overhead with a suplex for a two count. Angle holds Kaz for Tomko to deliver a strike to the ribs. Tomko knee lifts Kaz in the corner and delivers a chop to the back. Tomko runs into a boot in the corner and Kaz hits a tornado DDT.
Joe and Cage get the hot tags with Joe cleaning house with strikes. Joe nails Styles with a running knee strike. Cage avoids the Muscle Buster, but runs into a snap powerslam. Joe takes Styles down with a dragon screw leg whip. Angle hits the Angle Slam on Joe, but Abyss hits the Black Hole Slam on Angle. Tomko chokeslams Abyss to the mat, but Steiner hits a suplex on Tomko. Cage plants Steiner with a reverse DDT, but the Wave of the Future by Kaz on Cage. Styles nails Kaz with a springboard reverse DDT. Cage saves Styles from a choke by Joe. Cage tries for the Un-Prettier, but Styles accidentally hits the Pele kick on Cage. Joe sends Styles to the floor and hits the Muscle Buster on Cage for the win. After the match, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall appear at the top of the ramp clapping for the victors. (***1/2. A good match with some storytelling advancement and a clean finish. That will work for me. I’m loving the main events getting plenty of time to deliver quality matches.)
Final Thoughts:
A good show this week with a strong main event and advancing the issues between Cage and Angle with Styles in the middle. I think we’re going to get a Cage/Styles match after the eventual Cage/Angle showdown.
