From: Berwyn, IL

Backstage, Danny Daniels cuts a promo about wrestling all over the country. Daniels has been busting his ass for years. Daniels came to AAW for a friend. It was a favor for a friend. This friend ran AAW, but AAW was considered a wasteland. It was a group of guys who couldn’t make it and didn’t have a lot of talent. Daniels came in and the bar raised higher. Daniels didn’t come here to collect a paycheck. Daniels came here to make a change in the Chicago area. Daniels did this for a favor for a friend and wasn’t paid a lot of money. Daniels is here in AAW to make a change. That change will be made. Jim Jesus chimes in and says that they don’t want let Venom and Ego back into AAW because they lack vision. Jim says their vision take hold and their careers come to an end.

Outside, Robert Anthony and Keith Walker arrive to the venue.

Opening Contest: 20-Man Battle Royal: I’m not going to cover this since the match starts with all the guys involved in the ring, until RHINO slides into the ring within five seconds and begins to toss wrestlers over the top to the floor. Whomever wins gets a shot at Tyler Black for the AAW Heavyweight Championship since Jerry Lynn suffered an injury. Rhino dominates the match tossing guys with zero issue. Marek Brave gets eliminated late by Jimmy Jacobs. Rhino, Jacobs and Eddie V are the final three wrestlers. Rhino is double teamed by Jacob and Eddie. Rhino tosses Eddie to the floor and dumps Jacobs to the floor to win the match.

Black stops Rhino with a big boot for a near fall. Black forearms Rhino against the ropes, but Rhino plants Black with a spinebuster for a near fall. Rhino misses a middle rope diving headbutt. Black nails Rhino with a clothesline and both men are down. Black hits a standing shooting star press for a two count and gets a little bit frustrated. Black sends Rhino into the corner and is met with an elbow strike. Rhino nearly collides with the referee, but Black splashes the referee on accident. Rhino hits the GORE and has the cover, but there’s no referee. Jim Jesus enters the ring to confront Rhino. Danny Daniels enters the ring and nails Rhino with the championship. Black covers and a second referee slides into the ring to count the fall to allow Black to retain the title. (**1/2. The interference finish is not a surprise at all considering Rhino is a TNA talent and he’s not going to do a clean job to a guy like Tyler Black at this point. That said, I enjoyed the action. Rhino on the indies in 2006 is a guy that I will watch every single time he’s booked on the card. Rhino’s presentation on the indies has been done very well and he’s been protected quite well. The crowd was into this and I like that they essentially started the show with this big match.)

Earlier today, Michigan Invasion cut a promo outside. Truth Martini tells Zach Gowen that Jimmy Jacobs is not Michigan. Gowen says that he and Jacobs are going for the tag straps. Mattson doesn’t want Gowen around if he’s not with them. CJ Otis enters the scene and attacks the Michigan Invasion before running off.

Third Contest: Gary Havok vs. Lady Thrillaz (Mikey Maxim & Woody Maguire) in a handicap match: Havok was sitting in the front row drinking a beer and brawls with the Lady Thrillaz on the floor after hitting one of them with a drink. Havok is double teamed upon entering the ring. Ryan Boz and Dan Lawrence make their way out with Boz distracting on the floor. Havok gets a second wind and hits a snap powerslam. Havok continues with chops in the corner and avoids a splash causing the duo to collide. Havok hits a fisherman buster to win the match. (NR. I’m glad this didn’t go all that long. It was entertaining for what it was.)

Lucas (Joey Eastman) and Jade make their way down to the ring. Lucas says there’s a huge submission match tonight between Bryce Benjamin and Chandler McClure. Lucas will not be at ringside for the match because he was put in McClure’s submission. Despite that, Lucas is confident that Benjamin will win. Lucas brings out his special guests Robert Anthony and Keith Walker. Lucas welcomes them back and asks what they have in store for AAW. Anthony says you can’t have Scars & Stripes without Anthony and Walker. Anthony reminds us about his history in AAW and the championships he’s held. Anthony says they are here to bring back the old AAW and get their spots back. Walker recalls that he’s an unbeaten AAW Heavyweight Champion and he’s here to get his title back. Eric Priest, Danny Daniels, Jim Jesus and Ami Zayne come out to confront them on the aisle. Priest asks if Walker is here to win the title back and then runoff to Japan when Priest beats him for it. Priest insults Walker saying that Priest made him because before Walker couldn’t wrestle out of a plastic bag. Priest says tonight it will be about wrestling and not brawling. Priest knows that he can outwrestle them everyday of the week. Priest will show everyone why he’s the Gold Standard. Daniels chimes in and says that Anthony was a runt calling himself a different name. Daniels doesn’t want them here. Daniels and Jim run the show. Daniels says they aren’t good enough to be in AAW anymore. Daniels takes credit for the locker room and calls them has beens. Daniels promises to send them packing tonight. Lucas finishes off by saying those two (homophobic slur) don’t stand a chance.

Outside, Jason Dukes cuts a promo on Silas Young saying that tonight it ends between them. Dukes recalls all the times that Young has screwed him over. Dukes notes that he’s beaten Young and has burned his face off, too. Dukes takes out everything on Young tonight.

Earlier today, an interviewer tries to talk to Silas Young, who is sleeping in his car. Young isn’t in any condition to do an interview. Young says for the past six months Dukes has been in his business. Young says he can’t see out of his eye because Dukes tossed fire into his eye. Young says Dukes will find out what an eye for an eye is all about. The interviewer acts as if there’s an awful smell coming from the car throughout the interview.

Dave Prazak cuts a promo in the ring with the Mississippi Madman and he’s pissed about taking a month off and t

Fourth Contest: Shane Hollister vs. The Mississippi Madman: Hollister goes after Madman with several forearms, but Madman stops Hollister with a big boot. Hollister climbs to the top rope hitting a double stomp and pins Madman to win the match. After the match, Madman has a temper tantrum over the loss. (1/2*. I was expecting Madman to win this in a squash, but Hollister picking up the underdog win shouldn’t be a surprise. Hollister would go on to have quite a successful AAW career.)

Backstage, Rhino cuts a promo having Tyler Black beaten in the middle of the ring, but was screwed over by Danny Daniels and Jim Jesus. Rhino says he’ll be back and will win the AAW Heavyweight Champion no matter who it is.

Fifth Contest: Michigan Invasion Eddie V, Truth Martini & Zach Gowen) vs. Jayson Reign, Marco Cordova & Safari Stu: Martini and Cordova kickoff the match with Cordova shoving Martini into the corner. Cordova shoves Martini into a corner, but. Martini complains of Cordova pulling his trunks, which didn’t happen, of course. Martini shoulder rams Cordova against the ropes and tries for a leapfrog, but Cordova forearms Martini several times. Martini elbows Reign and puts a head scissors on Reign before ramming Reign face first onto the mat several times. Reign dropkicks Eddie after Cordova distracted Eddie. Reign tags in Stu and Stu cleans house with strikes and clotheslines Martini to the floor. Stu plants Eddie with a tilt a whirl DDT for a near fall as Gowen makes the save. Everyone is involved at this point. Stu runs the ropes and knocks Reign off the ropes. Eddie big boots Stu and Gowen hits a top rope moonsault for the win. (*1/2. This match didn’t really provide much of anything for me. Clearly Stu and Reign are going to be feuding with the several miscommunication spots in the match. Michigan Invasion is a top heel stable in AAW and winning here isn’t a surprise whatsoever. The action wasn’t bad, but nothing stood out as all that entertaining.) After the match, there appears to be some tension between Gowen and his partners, but nothing transpires.

Outside, AAW Tag Team Champions Dan Lawrence and Ryan Boz are interviewed. Lawrence says last month was a huge event for them because they beat three teams to become the champs. They plan on doing the same thing tonight. Boz doesn’t care who they wrestle tonight they are going to retain the titles. They could wrestle the Steiner Brothers, it doesn’t matter.

Sixth Contest: AAW Heritage Champion Silas Young vs. Jason Dukes in a street fight: Young shoulder rams Dukes from the apron and avoids a clothesline. (*1/2. This was just an extended showcase for the champs and they looked fine. Phoenix Twins are new to AAW, but over time they’ll become a major team for the promotion.)

Eighth Contest: Bryce Benjamin vs. Chandler McClure in a submission match: Benjamin hits a slingshot crossbody to the floor to kickoff the match. McClure sends Benjamin into the railing and delivers a big boot, but McClure appeared to slip on the floor. The lights go out as McClure had arm control. Lucas appears and hits McClure on the knee with a nightstick. Benjamin puts the modified Cloverleaf on McClure and wins the match. (*1/2. I hate the finish. Lucas already appeared on the show so it’s not as if he’d be a surprise or anything. The finish also doesn’t help Benjamin whatsoever. They went the route of teasing submissions, but I much rather the approach similar to Bret/Austin at Mania 13 where it’s an all out fight. Thus, this wasn’t all that good.)

Backstage, Weston Benton is interviewed and talks about not caring about Derek St. Holmes. Benton is looking to breakthrough from Holmes as his mentor. Benton got tired of being High Society’s bitch. A solid four way as it got good when the tags were essentially ignored. These kinds of matches should always just be all four guys going at it from the start. Brave is probably the top face for AAW, or at least on the verge of it at this point.)

Main Event: Keith Walker & Robert Anthony vs. Danny Daniels & Eric Priest: Walker and Priest kickoff the tag match. They trade wrist control to kickoff the match. Priest controls Walker with a hammerlock, but switches to a headlock. Priest keeps Walker on the mat for a few moments. Priest drop toe holds Walker and slaps the back of Walker’s head a few times. Anthony leaps off the top to hit Daniels with a flying forearm smash. Anthony tries for a double leg slam, but Tyler Black slides into the ring and attacks Anthony hitting a suplex. Daniels hits a middle rope Canadian Destroyer on Anthony for the win. (***. Considering the feud seemed to be personal between the two teams and one team was fighting for their careers the match lacked a certain fire and intensity you’d expect. It’s a solid enough tag match, but I was expecting much more brawling and overall high intensity.)

Marek Brave rolls into the ring and attacks Tyler Black. Chandler McClure gets in the ring to help Black. Safari Stu comes out to brawl with McClure. Black drops Brave with a suplex. Priest leaps off the top to elbow drop Walker through a table. Machine enters the ring and whacks Safari Stu with a chair shot. The announcers can’t believe it. Final Thoughts:
I’m going to consider this a minor thumbs up show for AAW. There were a couple of disappointing matches as I expected higher quality, but the show is enjoyable overall. I certainly don’t regret reviewing it, so that’s a plus.
